Among Estonian fairy tales and literature there is the tale of two lovers, Koit and Hämarik .These two lovers see each other only once a year and exchange the briefest of kisses on the shortest night of the year. Earth-bound lovers go into the forest looking for the flower of the fern which is said to bloom only on that night. Also on this night, single people can follow a detailed set of instructions involving different flowers to see whom they are going to marry.
Frank Bryant's life wanting an education, although she has no idea what it is that she's asking. Her brash sincerity earns the respect of the doctor who has previously resigned himself to a life of empty lectures and booze. Rita's character is a breath of fresh air for Bryant and he begins to care about someone, or something for that matter, for the first time since his wife left him. As each begins to wake up to life in their own way, the story comes to a close as an inspiring tale of self discovery and of the power choice that comes through education. In my opinion was Rita very freewheeling and acute oservations, and - let's be honest - by Rita herself, Frank also feels a deep sadness as he watches her warm impulsive reactions being replaced by the sort of cold analytical approach he so much loathes in other students and colleagues. The tradition before the Soviet occupation, which has now been restored, was for a fire to be lit by the Estonian President on the morning of Victory Day. From this fire, the flame of independence was carried across the country to light the many bonfires. St John's Day became an unofficial holiday, with many work places closing down. People's eyes are attracted to beauty and it's quite natural. We look at flowers, landscapes, pieces of art, and so on. We understand why it is beautiful.
