The Patriot
As
Tavington escaped, Benjamin got there in time to find Gabriel dying on the
ground. In the final battle, Col. Harry Burwell and Jean helped Benjamin defeat
the British, by using the militia (who were held in low regard by the British
officers) as a feint. Soon Martin and Tavington were able to face off, one on
one. As Tavington gained the upper hand in their vicious fight, he muttered,
"Kill me before the war is over, will you? It appears you are not the better
man." As he swang his sword ready to kill Benjamin, Martin stabbed him with a
bayonetfitted musket and replied, "You are right... my sons were better men."
So he impaled Tavington in the throat, killing him. And the book ended with
Martin and his men rebuilding the house of his.
