Canada´s history

permanent settlers behind, but after Champlain's trip , in 1604 the French founded the first permanent settlement in what is now Canada. The first city founded by the french was Quebec. New France was generally the name given to the french colonies of Canada and Acadia. British settlements appeared along the Atlantic coast. As the colonies grew, a struggle for control over North America started between England and France. For almost a century Canada was caught up in the struggle for power, until in 1763 England finally gained control over almost all of Canada. Gradually the British started to move westward and new provinces and territories appeared. During this settlement process the native Canadians were treated with more respect than the natives of the USA. Canada's real birthdate is July 1, 1867 when the British created the Dominion of Canada under British rule. In 1931 Canada peacefully broke away from direct British rule

Revolutionary period literature

Revolutionary period literature 17661799 Geographical lines were now forgotten, the literature of this period is no longer local. Literature presents the vivid reflection of that momentous struggle for independence upon which the American colonies had entered. Fiery speeches, able arguments set forth in newspapers and in pamphlets, sharp and bitter satire. From the beginning of the conflict to the end, there was a copious flow of verse which sprang naturally enough from the turbulence of popular excitement and emotion. Modern technology

Technology has become a very important part of our lives nowadays. It can be argued that modern technology makes life easier and more dignified for most of people. Technology may be very helpful but it can sometimes be very harmful. Firstly, medical science is very progressive and vastly available. Without the needed technology a lot of people would struggle with their health. Secondly, some of the creations that have really changed our lives are the computer, telephone, transport, internet and electronic media, television. The modern means of transportation allows people to move quickly from one place to another. The airplane is the most widely used means of transportation. The Internet has changed the way the people communicate to each other. With every passing day, more and more people use chat as a way to communicate

Living in the Big Apple

Living in the Big Apple The Big Apple is a wonderful place to live but it has its own drawbacks. First and foremost, if live in the Big Apple you are exposed to the diversity of people, which gives you an oppurtunity to enrich yourself by seeing other cultures. Despite the fact that living in New York is a big financial struggle you can still have a lot of fun on budget. Furthermore, there are a lot of shops in New York which are open 24 hours a day, so everything is at your fingertips. On the other hand, there is a lot of pollution and noise in the Big Apple, but I think it's acceptable for a hudge city like New York. Besides the pollution and noise, there is a much bigger problem in the Big Apple and that problem is crime. It's becoming a dangerous place to live, but the clampdown on crime has

"Babel" is a Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-winning 2006 film, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga. The action of the film takes place in 3 different countries and all the events that happen during the film are interrelated. At the beginning of the film two Moroccan boys shot from rifle and this influenced a chain of events that link on American tourist couple struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen girl rebel, whose father is caught by the police in Tokyo. Every branch of the story has it s very own distinct style that complements the plot of each one perfectly. The scenes are stunning, beautiful and dramatic. Money makes the world go round

Money makes the world go round Karl Johan Lips Money! the thing we all are working for. For few of us it has came easily by lottery, simple inventions or just having studied and listened to good advise by smart business owners, teachers and parents. Others however have had to struggle to get money because of simple reasons like not having studied in school or college, being lazy, or not doing the job correctly. Its clear that money is as important that living without it is almost impossible. But exactly how important and what is less or more important then money is left for every individual himself to decide. People use their money differently, for example their are celebrities who waste money on 5 different cars and 4 houses just to show they are rich

Pandemic - Studying during Covid-19

This year has come differently, everyone is really anxious and waiting for all of this to be over. I would even say that the whole year has had everyone on their toes, but I am trying to keep a positive mindset, there can always be worse. Sometimes I think people overdo it because Estonia doesn’t have it so bad, but better be safe than sorry. Studying at home is quite difficult for me, I don’t think it’s necessarily because of the pandemic, I’d say it’s more of a personal struggle. But when I have the motivation and or the goal in mind then I don’t think there is a more self-disciplined person than me. Most people probably enjoy studying from home because they can wake up when they want to, wear what they want to, eat what they want to and so on. But for me it just ruins my routines and boundaries therefore I get lazy and I start to slack off. Also I don’t like bringing “work” home because

War on terror

2001 with the US/UK invasion of Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. Since then, other operations have commenced, the largest being the War in Iraq, beginning with a 2003 invasion. Originally, it was waged against al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. The phrase War on Terror was first used by former US President George W. Bush and other high-ranking US officials to denote a global military, political, legal and ideological struggle against organizations designated as terrorist and regimes that were accused of having a connection to them or providing them with support or were perceived, or presented as posing a threat to the US and its allies in general. It was typically used with a particular focus on militant Islamists and al-Qaeda. The ideology of violent extremists has been discussed frequently since the tragic events of Septenber 11, 2001. Queen Mary I of England

SLAID In 1533 when Edward died another rival was put forward- her cousin Lady Jane Grey who supported Protestantism. Public sympathy remained with Mary, and she soon overcame resistance to her accession. . Mary first began to earn her unofficial title of "Bloody Mary" when she had her cousin executed to prevent any possible power struggle Mary tried to turn England back to Roman Catholicism. This effort was carried out by force, and hundreds of Protestant leaders were executed. The first was John Rogers the printer of the "Matthews-Tyndale Bible" .It was followed by the execution of former archbishop Thomas Cranmer, who was primarily responsible for the printing of the "Great Bible". As a result, around 300 Protestant heretics were burnt in three years.

Which is more important-sport or science?

This is something that has had me in two minds for a very long time, why does humanity waste so much time and money on sport and the pursuit of sport when realistically it is just a sideshow, a morale booster for the masses? The sheer volume of money spent each year on sports are actually absolutely ridiculous. Sports have become a monster that is beyond our control. This happens as legitimate scientific research struggles to find funding or a struggle along with tiny handouts from patronising governments around the world. Space exploration is probably the prime example in that it is now, at this stage of human development, more important than ever before that we find ways to make space inhabitable. But instead NASA has become a bit of a joke to the public and space exploration the stuff of B- grade horror movies. The question we have to ask ourselves is this, do sports stars really deserve to be paid five times the salary of a scientist?

Many people start to think about it in their early years. Some of us struggle with it even after graduating. We all have felt good about donating something.

Moreover, donating an organ seems to me like giving a part of your life away. But circumstances and life can change us and our thinking. If a family member, relative or friend needed a transplant in order to stay alive, it would definitely be easier to donate an organ in that case. I am not sure that would I do it for a stranger. It really depends on who needs the organ. If someone I care about needs an organ to survive, I would gladly donate it. I would much rather go through a struggle with them rather than sit there, watching them suffer, and do nothing when I have the means to help. I do understand people who agree to donate their body parts in the event of their own death. You do not need your body anymore anyway, so why not? Thousands of lives are saved every day in the US by people willing to donate their organs in this way. If the day ever comes that I would need an organ transplant, then I will be very thankful to my donor, whether I knew them or not

The Gifts of Imperfection: Embrace Who You Are

As a researcher, she observed human behavior so she can identify and name the subtle connections, relationships, and patterns that help us make meaning of our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. In the process of collecting thousands of stories from diverse men and women who lived all over the country—ranging in age from eighteen to eighty-seven— She saw new patterns that she wanted to know more about. Yes, we all struggle with shame and the fear of not being enough. And, yes, many of us are afraid to let our true selves be seen and known. But in this huge mound of data there was also story after story of men and women who were living these amazing and inspiring lives. She heard stories about the power of embracing imperfection and vulnerability. She learned about the inextricable connection between joy and gratitude, and how things that we take for granted, like

to be distracted by grammar and punctuation because the word processor will do the work for you and fix your mistakes. I also like that you can highlight and move sentences and paragraphs in a way that you cannot do on paper. The downside to becoming so used to the computer working for you is when the computer misses your mistakes. The word processing software is not perfect and often misses mistakes that we over look and assume have been corrected. Personally, I struggle with this and tend not to proof read as carefully as I should. Another problem is when you are writing on paper and use improper grammar and misspell words there is nothing there to remind you of your mistakes but yourself. Whenever I write by hand I have to think a lot harder about how to spell certain words. I notice that my friends also do the same thing and we have to ask each other how words are spelt or if sentences make sense. We have become sort of dependent on word processing.

Canada's three cities

Martin Luther King

and the situation became so tense that King's house was bombed. King was arrested during this campaign, after this accident, King became a national figure and the best-known spokesman of the civil rights movement. As you understand, Martin Luther King was like pacifist, also inspired by Gandhi's success with non- violent activism, King went to India. The trip to India affected King, deepening his understanding of non- violent resistance and his commitment to America's struggle for civil rights. King was among the leaders of the so-called "Big Six" civil rights organizations who were instrumental in the organization of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which took place on August 28, 1963. The march originally was conceived as an event to dramatize the desperate condition of blacks in the southern U.S. The march did, however, make specific demands: an end to racial segregation in public

Book Report "To Kill A Mockingbird"

from dishonour. Despite the remarkable evidence showing Tom's innocence, the all- white jury convicts him. Tom later tries to escape from prison and is shot to death. Despite the verdict, Bob Ewell feels that Atticus and the judge have made a fool out of him, and he swears revenge. He troubles Tom Robinson's widow, tries to break into the judge's house, and finally attacks Jem and Scout as they walk home from a Halloween party. Boo Radley saves the children and stabbs Ewell during the struggle. Boo carries the wounded Jem back to Atticus's house, where the sheriff, in order to protect Boo, insists that Ewell tripped over a tree root and fell on his own knife. After sitting with Scout for a while, Boo disappears once more into the Radley house. Quotation I would like to bring out a quotation that helps to understand the book better. "Shoot all the blujays you want, if you can't hit `em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird

Clarification

How are we meant to keep it out of football, which has a far greater following? I'm not so sure about that. Why not? Because traditions are now under attack from mass production and mass marketing. 9.4 Clarification / Reiteration through reference to subject They are usually on the same side in war-time, yet they rarely speak well of one another on a personal level. Are we talking about a struggle for superiority? I'm talking about national institutions, centres of culture which represent the best of Britain's historical and artistic treasures. That isn't the point. I'm talking about soft drinks, and few Spanish bars will serve you with "horchata", their own traditional soft drink. I'm talking about desktop PCs Are you saying that foreign-based multi-nationals decide who is going to be British Prime Minister.

brothers in the fight. He brought the Cold One's corpse back to the village for the elders to see. The corpse tried to reassemble itself, so they set fire to it and separated the ashes into small bags, one of which Billy still possesses. The Cold One's mate came to the village seeking revenge and killed the last wolf protector, Yaha Uta, as well as many of the tribe. Taha Aki turned into a wolf again in order to fight her, but he was old and she was too strong. The third wife saw his struggle and stabbed herself in front of the Cold Woman to distract her with her blood. The third wife died, but thanks to her sacrifice, Taha Aki was able to destroy the female. Afterwards, Taha Aki stayed with the body of his wife for one day, as a wolf, then and then ran to the forest and never returned. Over time, the warriors only changed into wolves if Cold Ones came to the area. As long as there were only one or two, the pack stayed small.

Pride and prejudice

Collins wanted to get married? 1) to act the way lady Lucas wanted 2) to gain someone, who'd take care of the household 3) to make a gift to the Bennets (following God's will). 4. What was Mrs. Bennett's utmost worry? She was one constant slanderer, so there was nothing more enjoyable nor important for her than getting her daughters married as soon as possible (and show off about it afterwards). 5. Why was Darcy's marriage proposal to Elizabeth such a struggle to him according to his words? He was scared by the propriety and the lack of manners and intelligence of the other members of the Bennets family except Jane and Elizabeth. 6. How did Darcy justify his interference with the relationship between Jane and Bingley? He never ment to do any harm, but simply assumed by a glance that Jane isn'i into Bingley as deeply as It would've been necessary for a happy marriage. 7

Britain in WW I

particularly in the area of arms manufacture; though this was only significant in the later years of the war, since unemployed men were often prioritised by employers. But when men went to war, then women took over their jobs. The war also caused a split in the British suffragette movement, calling a 'ceasefire' in their campaign for the duration of the war. In contrast, more radical suffragettes, like the Women's Suffrage Federation, continued their (at times violent) struggle. Women were also allowed to join the armed forces in a non-combatant role and by the end of the War 80,000 women had joined the armed forces in auxiliary roles such as nursing and cooking. Great Britain was victorious in the war, but suffered heavy losses: Britain had the greatest empire in the world before the war broke out. As a result of the war, the world's financial centre shifted from England to the United States, from London to New York

Straitland

Straitland Historical Facts Straitland has served as a junction of international trade routes for Vikings. Long struggle of power with foreign intruders has left ancient strongholds in Valjala, Lihula and Soontagana. The churches in Muhu, Valjala, Mustjala, Karja and Kihelkonna are honorable and elderly because Straitland was the one to bring Christianity to Estonia. The castle of Kuressaare is still standing proudly, but in Lihula only ruins can be seen. The patterns of national dresses and the churches bring memories of secret sign cultures of Medieval Times

Bora Bora

Your English-speaking guide will also take you to the historical site where US Army cannons remain from World War II. BORA BORA AQUA SAFARI WITH HELMET Go for a walk underwater with an air-supplied helmet and find yourself surrounded by tropical fish. This 2-hour excursion includes a boat tour of Bora Bora and snorkeling in the lagoon. History Prior to European contact, the island was inhabited by Polynesian settlers in the 4th century AD. Two clans, in particular, were in a constant struggle for power. Researchers believe that Bora Bora held the military power over all of the Leeward Islands. In the 1700's, Chief Puni ruled the island as well as clans on other islands including Tahaa, Raiatea, and Maupiti. European explorer, James Cook, landed on Tahaa and Raiatea in 1769 and on Bora Bora in 1770. Approximately 50 years later, the London Missionary Society began introducing Christianity on the island. In 1890, they established a Protestant church here. Bora Bora

Constructivism theory

is what States make of it: The Social construction of power politics." Does the absence of centralized political authority force states to play competitive power politics? Can international conditions overcome this logic and under what conditions? What in anarchy is given and immutable and what is amenable to change? The general neorealist and neoliberal answer to these questions is that "anarchies are necessarily `self-help' systems" in which states have to struggle for their security and survival due to the absence of a security-providing central order as well as a lack of collective security guarantees; a condition which gives rise to the "inherently competitive dynamic of security dilemma and collective action problem." In answering so, therefore, Wendt contends, neorealist and neoliberal scholars of international relations ignore "questions of identity- and interest-formation."Wedndt's argument: [S]elf-help and power politics do not

Legends of the Fall

sheriff are killed by Colonel Ludlow and Alfred as Tristan attempts to protect his father. Alfred reconciles with his father and brother. Tristan, knowing he will be blamed for the men's disappearance, leaves for the mountain country after asking Alfred to take care of his children. Over time, everyone in Tristan's life die before him. As an old man, Tristan is set upon with a grizzly bear. He draws his knife and fights with the bear. As they struggle, the image freeze-frames as One Stab narrates: "It was a good death". My Opinion Legends of the Fall was fascinating and interesting book me to read, only it was sometimes difficult to understand. I have also seen the movie, but the movie does not include many aspects what were in book . I recommend this book , those who want understand intrigues between family and when you whose to read this book I suggest first watch the movie , then the
