It talks about a telephatic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, from a small town Bon Temps. She lives with her grandmother Adele and she has an older brother Jason. She meets a vampire, Bill Compton. In this world vampires are a reality. They have also invented synthetic blood, which makes it unnecessary to feed on humans. And vampire blood is an addictive and illegal drug. Sookie falls in love with Bill. A lot of murders occur in Bon Temps. Bill and her brother are main suspects at some point because the bodies have fang marks and Jason is suspected because he had a relationship with two of the victims. Sookie tries to help both of them and she starts searching for information about who might have been the murderer. Her grandmother is also killed and she has to start living alone.
