people who do not do much with their lives.
The school must sell 20,000 boxes this year, each boy must sell fifty boxes. twice that
were for sale last year.
Leon knows that Archie has influence in the secret group that rules the school. Archie
pushes back, but Leon levels his gaze at him and Archie remembers that Leon could ruin
his grade in algebra. Archie finaly says that The Vigils will help.
A pale, sniveling sort of man, Brother Leon nevertheless is a bully. He takes great pleasure
in making students fear him.
The black box is a mechanism to keep the leader of The Vigils in check. Inside the black
box there are six marbles--five white and one black. If Archie draws the black marble, he
must do the assignment himself.
Ten minutes before the end of class, Leon calls on Bailey. Leon accuses Bailey of
cheating. Leon wonders how else Bailey could always get such great grades. Bailey
