“To room nineteen” is considered to be one of the best short stories by Doris Lessing. The
book takes place in a mid-twentieth century in London suburb. It gives insight about
women’s rights and London society on these days. Showes how the perfect lives as they
seemed from outside, acctually weren’t that ideal on the inside.
The book itself is about a middle-aged woman, Susan, whose life is spinning around her four
children, ideal husband and lovely home. Everything seems to be just perfect. When the
youngest child went off to school, the seeming peace in this family is soon gone. Susan didn’t
find the sense of freedom that she expected. She started thinking about herself she lost in her
marriege life and was filled with emotions that were not inherent to her.. As she discovered
that it was housework, children and husband, that made her lose her self-identity, she stared
to hate everythin...
