The Picture of Dorian Gray
hesitantly introduces him to Lord Henry, who he scares will have a harmful
influence on the vulnerable, young Dorian.
Lord Henry makes a speech to Dorian, explaining that the only thing
important in life is beauty. After that Dorian himself starts to feel that way
and wishes that the painting would grow old in his place. Dorian meets Sibyl,
an actress, and they are engaged soon after, Sibyl brother warns Sibyl that if
Dorian hurts her he will kill Dorian. When Sibyls acting suffers from the love
she feels for Dorian. Dorian rejects her, and when he returns home he sees
his portrait has changed, but he hasn't. When Dorian tries to reconcile with
Sibyl, he finds out that the girl has killed herself. Dorian realizes that passion
and looks are where his life is headed and he needs nothing else. He
continues this life for 18 years. When Basil questions Dorian about his wrong
doings, he shows Basil the portrait, which is as hideous as Dorian's sins.
