Fishery resources Capture fisheries resources are highly diverse. FAO landing statistics refer to about 2 500 species or group of species most of which are finfish. By far the most numerous fish species, and those most important to aquaculture and fisheries, are teleosts, or bony fish, which in the sea extend from small "grazing" species such as anchovy to large active predatory fish such as tuna. A similarly wide range is also found in freshwater, with the most important species from a production point of view belonging to the carp family

Natural resources - our treasure

Natural resources-our treasure Natural resources are land or raw materials like minerals, fluids, gases, organic matters and also woods, groundwater, animals and so on, in other words it's everything that human hasn't created. These resources are also used in industry. We get natural resources from the environment. Many of them are essential for our survival while others are used for satisfying our wants. Renewable resources: Some natural resources can be reproduced within a few years or decades. These are called renewable resources. Solar radiation, wind and hydroelectricity, are perpetual resources that are in no danger of a lack of long-term availability. Some natural renewable resources such as geothermal power, fresh water, timber, and biomass must be carefully managed to avoid exceeding the worlds capability to displace them. Solar energy is the energy derived directly from the Sun. Along with nuclear energy, it is the

Annual rainfall in North Island is around 125-150cm, the west receiving slightly more rain than the east. South island is colder. Energy and natural resources: Despite a comparatively small population and abundant natural resources, New Zealand is a net importer of energy. Energy importation is in the form of oil products. About 30% of primary energy is from renewable energy sources. The leading manufacturing sectors are food processing, metal fabrication, wood and paper products. Fiji

The culture of Fiji has created a unique communal and national identity. Politics of Fiji normally take place in the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister of Fiji is the head of government, the President the head of state, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Parliament of Fiji. Fiji, endowed with forest, mineral, and fish resources, is one of the more developed of the Pacific island economies, though still with a large subsistence sector. Natural resources include timber, fish, gold, copper, offshore oil potential, hydropower. Fiji experienced a period of rapid growth in the 1960s and 1970s but stagnated in the 1980s. The coup of 1987 caused further contraction. Economic liberalization in the years following the coup created a boom in the garment industry

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children Our planet has resources which are necessary for people's everyday life. As the population is growing the resources are decreasing. One of the things that affects the life on the earth is overconsumption. We consume more than what the earth can regenerate. This is a big problem because our exhaustible resources are running out. This is a problem that has huge consequences. It means that in the future people may not have enough resources, beacuse right now we are using too much. Secondly, there is a huge amout of waste and pollution. Clean air is our most valuable resource, but it is getting more and more polluted, in the same way as the water. Poverty in World

Third World countries are often described as "developing" while the First World, industrialized nations are often "developed". A lack of material wealth does not necessarily mean that one is deprived. A strong economy in a developed nation doesn't mean much when a significant percentage (even a majority) of the population is struggling to survive. Politics have led to dire conditions in many poorer nations. In many cases, international political interests have led to a diversion of available resources from domestic needs to western markets. This has resulted in a lack of basic access to food, water, health, education and other important social services. This is a major obstacle to equitable development. Poverty has also been described as the number one health problem for many poor nations as they do not have the resources to meet the growing needs. But poverty is not restricted just to developing countries. Industrialized nations are also seeing a sharp increase in poverty

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RAINFOREST The beauty, majesty, and timelessness of a primary rainforest are indescribable. It is impossible to capture on film, to describe in words, or to explain to those who have never had the awe-inspiring experience of standing in the heart of a primary rainforest. Rainforests have evolved over millions of years to turn into the incredibly complex environments they are today. Rainforests represent a store of living and breathing renewable natural resources that for eons, by virtue of their richness in both animal and plant species, have contributed a wealth of resources for the survival and well-being of humankind. These resources have included basic food supplies, clothing, shelter, fuel, spices, industrial raw materials, and medicine for all those who have lived in the majesty of the forest. However, the inner dynamics of a tropical rainforest is an intricate and fragile system. Everything is so

The introduction of money into the system creates monetary as well as real flows of goods and services. Investment in a money economy Investment involves resources being laid aside now to produce a return in the future, for instance, today´s consumption is reduced in order to put resources into building a factory and the creation of machine tools to produce goods in later years. In a modern, sophisticated economy there are largescale flows of investment resources from the ultimate owners (individuals who make up households) to the business sector

Efficient initiatives to help protect the environment

Efficient initiatives to help protect the environment Just like our bodies, the environment functions best when it's in balance. Unfortunately, we're not quite there. Many of us believe that we lead lives that respect nature but our consumption habits give us away. Many little habits that seem to be sustainable are in fact polluting. Along with pollution, issues like depletion of resources, the rise of consumerism, and the "throw away" culture have led to serious issues. That being said, the fight's not over yet. Fortunately, more people than ever are both aware of and active in the protection of the environment. To protect the environment, waste management and recycling are crucial. When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are

Eventually the Earth will become uninhabitable. People cannot change the past but their actions affect the future. One of the ways how people are affecting the lives of future generations is increasing pollution. Clean air and water are the most valuable resources, but they are getting more and more polluted. For example the air in China is so polluted that people need to wear masks. The pollution of water kills hundreds of thousands of water animals and birds. Some of the big companies have accepted the problem and are taking action. For example McDonald`s and Burger King are not using plastic straws anymore. usually experience a lot suffering and when they have a choice whether to live in pain and be a burden to their family and hospital or die in peace, many usually prefer the second choice. Some prefer to die with dignity and if mercy killing would be punished they simply would have the freedom of choose. On the other hand mercy killing should be punished. If mercy killing becomes something usual younger people might start thinking life has a smaller value. A tremendous amount of resources is used to keep the terminally ill people alive and doctors might start using euthanasia as something to save up the resources. In the end it all comes down to the person himself, whether he wants to live or die, and being punished for helping another person end his suffering should not be allowed.

From an economical standpoint, United Kingdom surpasses Estonia is most sectors, we can take the GDP as an example, when UK stands at 2.629 trillion then Estonia only stands at a low of 38.94 billion. That’s a huge difference, but we should concider another factor. When Estonia stands at the bottom ten of public debt, having one of the lowest ones in Europe then United Kingdom is at the top thirty, with its public debt being 89.30 percent of the GDP. Natural resources can benefit a country greatly, if the country was lucky to enough to have anything valuable as in oil. United Kingdom is way more lucky at this point as they way surpass Estonia in natural resources. As United Kingdom has gold, iron, natural gas and so on. Estonia’s only natural treasure really is oil shale that they used to make electricity and peat. So UK really dominates Estonia at this category. Same goes for the population, while Estonia has a shy of one million, UK trumps that with

This gives sellers or buyers the ability to influence the market price and allocation of resources Pure competition results in an optimal allocation or resources given the objective of an economic system to allocate resources to their highest valued uses or to allocate relative scarce resource to maximize the satisfaction of (unlimited) wants in a cultural context. Pure competition is the ideal that is be benchmark to evaluate the performance markets. The economic theory of · monopolistic competitive markets, · oligopoly and · monopoly is used to suggest the nature of problems that may exist when firms or agents have market power

Should space exploration be a priority

Before people had the technology to study space, they tried to make sense of the universe with the help of religion. Luckily thanks to the great interest in the subject, the first manned spaceflight happened on April 12, 1961 by the Soviet Union, with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin aboard. Travelling in space could become very important and useful for people on earth in case something happens to our planet. Many things could happen since humans are taking advantage of earth's natural resources like oil and building dangerous factories that produce toxic waste. With space travel we could find planets that have the material to replace our resources and maybe get rid of the toxic waste we no longer have room here. Besides that, a war could break out involving majority of the countries which would lead to total destruction and it might be harder to rebuild the society here than to move to another planet that is not damaged.

Argumentative presentation: Estonia does need a nuclear power station

". First of all, in the current year, the power consumption reached the highest of all tomes in February. Most of the energy shortage was covered by energy brought from Lithuania. Energy was produced there from gas imported from Russia. That is not a reliable source of energy that can scale. In addition, Estonia does not have an adequate electricity grid network with neighboring countries. Therefore, there are no means to cover local demand with the current resources. Second of all, the problem with most renewables is that it does not scale well. Furthermore they do not have constant output sources of energy. They only supplement the existing systems. The biggest problem is the the increasing cost, if the most optimal places are taken. There are problems with using nuclear energy. For example, nuclear proliferation, plant decommissioning and waste are among the top problems. However, it is greenest sustainable

Pessimism vs optimism

Pessimism vs. Optimism Different approaches to the ‘population-resources’ debate Malthus Task: View figure 13.57 (page 378 of Waugh). Draw the graph and discuss. Malthus believed that there was a finite optimum population in relation to food supply and that an increase beyond that point would lead to a decline in living standards and to war, famine and disease.  An increase in the population above the optimum limit would therefore lead to war, famine and disease. A PESSIMISTIC approach

Prairies, mountain ranges and high plateaus of the Canadian Cordillera, and northern Canada. Climate Canada's climate varies wildly based on geography, from perma-frost in the north to four distinct seasons towards the equator. In this region the temperature can climb up to 35 degrees Celsius in the summer and descend to a chilly -25 degrees Celsius during winter. Canada's climate and environment are one of the main reasons that Canada is such a succesful country. The blend of natural resources and climate sustains us. The seasons dictate the look of the land: according to whether the natural environment is in a state of dormancy or growth. Canada's climate is characterized by its diversity, as temperature and precipitation differ depending on where you are and what time of year it is. Other than the North where it's above freezing for only a few months a year, most Canadian cities are within 300 km of the southern
