Estinian Drama Theatre

The theatre has two halls, cosy bars and elegant foyers. In addition to its 426-seat big auditorium a 159-seat small stage was opened in 1967. In 2004 70-seat Paintshop stage was opened. Estonian Drama Theatre is the nearest equivalent to an academic theatre we have in Estonia, and it stages both Estonian and world drama classics and contemporary plays. The Estonian Drama Theatre mainly plays classics, which are selected from world renowned dramas, Estonian literature, modern repertoire, more intimate plays requiring a small cast and less space, selected scripts from the contemporary Estonian authors and the producers' debut dramas. In these days the repertoire of Estonian Drama Theatre consists of the plays written by Shakespeare, Moliere, Calderon and also Friel, Bergman etc. The theatre is constantly searching for new plays written by Estonian authors. The performances are given in Estonian but the simultaneous translation into Russian is also available.

Teater NO99

Theatre NO99 I chose to write about this theatre because I like it the most. It is the most modern theatre I think and the plays are also most startling and astonishing, compare to other theatres in Estonia. It began to operate in February 2005, so it is one of the youngest theatres in Estonia. Probably that's why it is very different from the others and its repertoire is more contemporary then classical. Their first play what "Sometimes you feel that life will end and there hasn't been any love". The theatre also organizes so called one-time "actions", in which you can't be certain if it's going to be a success of failure, because the ideas are somewhat crazy. It has two theatre halls, but their plays have been staged in the open air as well. For example one time in an old swimming pool and also in three abandoned airplane hangars. Their imagination has no

representative building in the heart of Tallinn - opened the doors in the summer of 1913. The building was designed by Finnish architects Armas Lindgren and Wiwi Lonn. The "Estonia" theatre has had several names during history, but since 1998, it bears the name The Estonian National Opera. From 1994 the theater is managed by the general manager Paul Himma. The Estonian National Opera is the home of the symphony orchestra, the opera choir and the ballet. The theater repertoire includes classical operas, ballets and operettas as well as modern musical and children plays. The most popular performances are "Swan Lake" and the opera "La Traviata". The Estonian National Opera's majestic White Hall (218,8 m2) with its grand crystal chandeliers is an excellent place for festive receptions, formal occasions and dancing parties. The hall is provided with removable chairs (for 100 people) and tables. In the Opera House,

Theatres in Estonia

independence, theatre lost its political significance and became one area of culture amongst many others. Nowadays, theatre has to prove its worth by means of art only. Estonian theatre arts is a mixture of German and Russian theatre. Theatres in Estonia, like elsewhere in the world, may be divided into three categories according to their form of ownership: state, municipal and private theatres. One of the six state theatres in Tallinn is the Russian Drama Theatre. Although its repertoire is Russian, quite a number of Estonian classical plays are staged there. The audiences are mostly people of Russian nationality. There are two music and dance theatres in Estonia: 'Vanemuine' in Tartu and the national opera 'Estonia'. The Vanemuine has its own drama company and is therefore the largest of Estonian theatres. Theatres in small cities cannot be merely regarded as employers located far from centres and therefore the more valuable

in Tartu in the summer One of the organisers of the first song festival was Johann Voldemar Jannsen. In the first three festivals only men's choirs and brass orchestras participated. 822 singers and 56 brass players were in the first festival. Starting with the fourth festival, mixed choirs were also participating. Starting with the sixth festival in 1896, the festival tradition moved to Tallinn. Starting from 1947, the Soviet authorities forced foreign songs into the repertoire. Because of the inclusion of children's and boys' choirs the total number of participants rose to 25,000 30,000 people. The Dance and Gymnastic Festival of the First Estonian Games started in 1934 became predecessors of later National Dance Festivals accompanying the song festival. Between 1879-1910, Song Festival was held for six times. In the beginning of the first Estonian independence there came custom to to organize festival in every five years

Art and Aesthetics in Early Childhood Education

(Kindler, 2001); Pariser & van den Berg. 1997). In none of these recent studies was young children's work considered to be artistically superior of the work their older peers or nonartistic adults. This suggests that the cultural criteria of artistic merit indeed played a powerful role in defining the very concept of artistic development in research that led to the universality claims of the U-shaped developmental progression. It is important to note that the repertoire model of development does not disprove the U-shape model. In pictorial repertoires tht emphasize modernist values, this prediction quite possibly continues to hold true. However, the repertoire model provides also for alternative developmental trajectories in other areas of pictorial pursuits, where technical mastery and significance than the image's overall expressive quality. The revised understanding of development in pictorial representations presents an exciting challenge to the field

Theatres in Tallinn

For decades it was led by its founder Ferdinand Veike. Since 2000 the managing director of the theatre is Meelis Pai. There has been a noticeable renewal in both the artistic and administrative side of the Puppet Theatre. The theatre is located in the Old Town of Tallinn and has four stages Small Stage (180-240 seats), Oval Stage (77-100 seats), Middle Stage (56-70 seats), Fireplace Hall (25-35 seats) and Main Stage (700 seats). The repertoire of the Puppet Theatre consists of plays mostly for children and youth, combining puppetry and drama elements, the theatre also offers traditional shadow theatre. In last few years the theatre has a growth in musical productions and various experimental projects. Russian Drama Theatre The roots of Russian theatre in Tallinn go back to the small Russian community of the late 19th century. Theatricals received a boost after the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, when many Russian

Styles in interior design

The art of classicism typically seeks to be formal and restrained: of the Discobolus Sir Kenneth Clark observed, "if we object to his restraint and compression we are simply objecting to the classicism of classic art. A violent emphasis or a sudden acceleration of rhythmic movement would have destroyed those qualities of balance and completeness through which it retained until the present century its position of authority in the restricted repertoire of visual images." [1] Classicism, as Clark noted, implies a canon of widely accepted ideal forms, whether in the Western canon that he was examining in The Nude (1956), or the Chinese classics. Classicism is a force which is often present in post-medieval European and European influenced traditions; however, some periods felt themselves more connected to the classical ideals than others, particularly the Age of Reason, the Age of Enlightenment, and some classicizing movements in Modernism.

RAKVERE TEATRI PUBLIKUMAGNETID AASTATEL 2014 - 2016

Show has to be meaningful and accost public at the same time. Actor's professionality on the credibility of the show is being evaluated. In the survey it was found out the, who's acting in the show, is becoming decisive in the choice of the show. The reputation of the performance is important. On the important place on the position of the public are the theme of the staging, play's author and director. In the summary of the analysis of the directors interviews it turned out that in repertoire of the theatre every specific theatre's aim, target group and ohter theatre's repertoires has to be considered. Important is artistic leader's and marketing department's opinion. The director solely does not decide the repertoire of the theatre. The audience and popularity of the show is not 100% predictable. ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

continued with his principles of ensemble theatre. His method based on psychological realism would influence the Estonian theatre for decades. In his opinion the main function of theatre had to be educational. A position similar to Menning was held by Karl Jungholz (1878-1925) in Tallinn. Both had studied under Max Reinhardt in Berlin. At the same time the actors in the Estonia Theatre in Tallinn displayed a certain romantic-theatrical tendency, preferring a more international repertoire (Shakespeare and Schiller among others) and musical production. 1906 turned out to be a remarkable year. Both Tartu’s Vanemuine and the Estonia Theatre in Tallinn became professional. For the celebration concert of this event in Tartu, two new works were written: The First Estonian Suite by Artur Kapp and Overture-Fantasy No. 12 by Mihkel Lüdig (1880-1958). Kapp’s Suite is important because for the first time an Estonian composer used Estonian folk music. Lüdig also

Molekulaar- ja rakubioloogia konspekt

For instance, nearly all the cells in our bodies contain the full set of human genes, but in each cell type only some of these genes are active, or turned on, and used to make proteins. That's why liver cells produce some proteins that are not produced by kidney cells, and vice versa. Moreover, many cells can respond to external signals or changes in external conditions by turning specific genes on or off, thereby adapting their repertoire of proteins to meet current needs. Such control of gene activity depends on DNA-binding proteins called transcription factors, which bind to DNA and act as switches, either activating or re- pressing transcription of particular genes. The activities of many transcription factors are indirectly regulated by binding of extracellular proteins and peptides to cell-surface receptors. These receptors activate

Bridges presentation

Foreword Bridging rivers, gorges, narrows, straits, and valleys always has played an important role in the history of human settlement. Since ancient times, bridges have been the most visible testimony of the noble craft of engineers. A bridge can be defined in many ways, but Andrea Palladio, the great 16th century Italian architect and engineer, hit on the essence of bridge building when he said "...bridges should befit the spirit of the community by exhibiting commodiousness, firmness, and delight." In more practical terms, he went on to explain that the way to avoid having the bridge carried away by the violence of water was to make the bridge without fixing any posts in the water. Since the beginning of time, the goal of bridge builders has been to create as wide a span as possible which is commodious, firm, and occasionally delightful. Spanning greater distances is a distinct measure ...

" He stepped closer, his hand lifting to my face. I forced myself not to move away or give him the satisfaction of seeing me intimidated. His thumb brushed over the corner of my mouth; then lifted to his own. He sucked on the pad and purred, "Chocolate and you. Delicious." A shiver moved through me, followed by a heated ache between my legs as I imagined licking chocolate off his lethally sexy body. His gaze darkened and his voice lowered intimately. "Romance isn't in my repertoire, Eva. But a thousand ways to make you come are. Let me show you." The car slowed to a halt. He withdrew the key from the panel and the doors opened. I backed into the corner and shooed him out with a flick of my wrist. "I'm really not interested." "We'll discuss." Cross caught me by the elbow and gently, but insistently, urged me out. I went along because I liked the charge I got from being around him and because I was

Keelefilosoofia raamat

An unstructured utterance is a single expression or nonverbal gesture, such as "Ouch" or a beckoning motion that means "This way," whose meaning is not compositional in that sense. (Note that Grice uses the term "utterance" very broadly, as including nonverbal communicative acts.) After some backing and filling, Grice hypothesizes that x [an unstructured expression] means that P in S's idiolect, if and only if (roughly) S has in her/ his repertoire the following procedure: to utter x if, for some audience A, S intends A to believe that S believes that P. (That last clause is a simplified version of "S speaker-means that P"; Grice argues that the simplification is harmless here.) Now he expands this analysis to cover utterance meaning for a group of speakers: x [unstructured] means that P for group G if and only if (a) many members of G have in their repertoires the procedure of uttering x if, for

This work describes the appearance of jazz in Estonia and its development until 1945, including thus all the information known and revealed so far during this study as well as its analysis concerning the bands and orchestras active in Estonia and defining themselves as jazz players during this period. Main attention has been focused on the creation and development of jazz orchestras and jazz bands; first of all, their members and instruments, their repertoire and stylistic trends. This study covers also a unique aculturation phenomenon disregarded so far by both folk music and jazz researchers. It could be defined as popular or folk music with some jazz-like features. The author of this work has called this phenomenon “village jazz”. Special attention has been paid to the development of jazz under the difficult conditions of occupations and wars in 1940–1945
