About Peter I House Museum Emperor Peter I (1672-1725) expanded the borders of the Russian Empire in the course of the Northern War and managed to annex the whole Estonian territory by the year 1710. Therefore the protection of the new border areas became the priority of the ruler and he paid a lot of attention to the reconstruction of ports in Tallinn and Paldiski and visited Tallinn several times. Together with the site of the would-be palace, a summer estate and a 17th-century cottage that had belonged to town councillor von Drenteln were purchased for the emperor's use in 1713. The small cottage was enlarged with a wing and the outcome was a building with a hall, a kitchen and four rooms. The small summer residence was in use until the emperor's death. The succeeding rulers used the Palace of Kadriorg
congregations. Discussions about re-establishing the place began around the middle of the 1800s. By the end of 1850s, money was being raised collectivley in order to build a larger and more durable church for the use of Estonians. The construction lasted from October 1862 to December 1870, the two towers on the west side were enlarged in 1882. The architect of the project was Otto Pius Hippius from St.Petersburg. Along with the reconstruction of Tallinn’s largest place of worship, the Charles congregation was re-established as well. This time the church was built of hewn limestone blocks, in the historical neo- Roman style, on the basic plan on a Latin cross. The inside of the church is exceptionally large and open, the ceiling being supported by a special arch supporting system and the sides characterized with arched windows. The benches inside can fit a total of 1500 people.

Augustine Phillips, and Thomas Pope, owned a single share, or 12.5%. On 29 June 1613 the Globe Theatre went up in flames during a performance of Henry VIII. A theatrical cannon, set off during the performance, misfired, igniting the wooden beams and thatching. According to one of the few surviving documents of the event, no one was hurt except a man whose burning breeches were put out with a bottle of ale. It was rebuilt in the following year. The resettling of the Dominican monks from Toompea to downtown was one of the results of the battle. Having acquired North Estonia again in 1238, King Valdemar of Denmark appointed the Toompea church the cathedral of the Tallinn bishopric, which was formed in 1240, and subordinated to the archdiocese of Lund. The cathedral chapter was established at the cathedral consecrated to St. Mary the Virgin and a school was formed at the church in 1319 at the latest. The reconstruction of the initally one-nave and relatively modest church into a three- nave one started at the beginning of the 14 th century and lasted approximately a hundred years. This period includes another change of power, resulting in Tallinn's subordination to the order one more time. The name Patkul itself comes from Johann Patkul. He had worked against the Swede, so Patkul was remembered by Russians. In the Middle Ages that part of Toompea where the castle stands was called the Small Fortress. The rest of the hill with the homes of the feudal lords and bishop of Tallinn was called the Big Fortress. The main building, the centre of the Small Fortress, was the Convention House- a building where the members of the knighthood lived. In the 1920s the reconstruction of the building was carried out. The northern part of it became the seat of the State Assembly of the Estonian Republic. In the 19th century a public garden was laid out the Governor's Garden. Town Wall and its Towers The first town wall of Tallinn, which was rather low and modest, was built in the second half of the 13th century. It was called Margaret's Wall by the Danish queen Margaret in 1265. In 1310 Johan Canne was appointed Viceregent of Tallinn and he started the re-
