Report to the Board of Governors

There were about 50 persons, mostly students from the nearest university and some my colleagues came to help us. Youngsters were wonderful! They were so enthusiastic, for example, they thought of some additional activities. We certainly add these to the programme of an event next year. Surprisingly, but just that raised the vast of money. The total raised exceeded the income of the last year. Proposals In the light of this year`s experience, I would like to make some proposals for a similar event next year. The more different activities we have there, the better it is. My recommendations are as follows: sponsored runs, street parties, providing collectors with special badges etc. I hope we helped all disadvantaged children in Britain this year.

House of Commons. The House of Lords plays an important role in checking and challenging the decisions and actions of the government through questions and debates. A House of Commons evolved at some point in England during the 14th century, becoming the House of Commons of Great Britain after the political union with Scotland in 1707. How laws are made Most new laws passed by Parliament result from proposals made by the government. Proposals aim to shape society or address particular problems. Normally, they are created over a period of time. History In the Middle Ages and early modern period there were three kingdoms within the British Isles -- England, Scotland and Ireland -- and these developed separate parliaments. The 1707 Acts of Union brought England and Scotland together under the Parliament

Monument to the Conquerors of Space!

Monument to the Conquerors of Space! Built in 1964 just at the entrance to the All-Russias evhibition, teh VDNKh, this is an extraordinary monument housing a full museum in the mound beneath. It is all clad in shiny stainless steel. In March 1958, a few months after the launch of Sputnik 1, a competition was announced for the best design of an obelisk celebrating the dawn of the Space Age. Out of some 350 proposals, the design by sculptor A.P. Faidysh-Krandievsky and architects A.N. Kolchin and M.O. Barshch was chosen. The grand opening of the monument took place on October 4, 1964, on the day of the 7th anniversary of the Sputnik 1 launch. Since the 1960s, this part of Moscow in general has had a high concentration of space- themed sights and names: besides the monument and the museum under it, the grand "Cosmos" pavilion in the Exhibition Centre displayed many artifacts of the Soviet space program. British Parliament

As mentioned above, the House of Lords can not block bills proposed by the Government in the House of Commons, and can only delay some bills . It is rare that the House of Lords use of this prerogative, other than in exceptional cases; for the Lords to act against the wishes of an elected government would be constitutionally unacceptable. Thus, almost all the bills from the House of Commons are approved quickly by the Lords, and returned for a "second reading" with some proposals for modifications or improvements. It is up to the House of Commons to accept or reject these proposals. The essential role of the House of Lords is to discuss non controversial subjects, or examine in detail projects for which the House of Commons does not have time. Given its experience of the Life Peers who sit in the House of Lords, the Upper House is an assembly of well experienced former politicians , and is well suited to its parliamentary duties, even if its

The 2006 Riga summit listed possible cyber attacks among the asymmetric threats to the common security and acknowledged the need for programs to protect information systems over the long term. The cyber attacks on Estonia in 2007 highlighted for the first time the potential vulnerability of any NATO countries, their institutions and societies, and even NATO itself to disruption or penetration of their information and communications systems. • Estonia’s proposals for a NATO cyber excellence center received strong support from the alliance’s Secretary-General "Jaap" de Hoop Scheffer. NATO completed an assessment of the situation, partly in light of Estonia’s experience, in April 2007, and approved a NATO policy on cyber defence in January 2008. NATO’s summit communiqué in Bucharest in April announced NATO’s readiness to "provide a capability to assist allied nations, upon request, to counter a cyber attack". OVERVIEW

It represents the member states, and its meetings are attended by one minister from each of the EU's national governments. Which ministers attend which meeting depends on what subjects are on the agenda. Javier Solana gives EU diplomacy a face as High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy The Commission is independent of national governments. Its job is to represent and uphold the interests of the EU as a whole. It drafts proposals for new European laws, which it presents to the European Parliament and the Council. It is also the EU's executive arm in other words, it is responsible for implementing the decisions of Parliament and the Council. That means managing the day-to-day business of the European Union: implementing its policies, running its programmes and spending its funds. Like the Parliament and Council, the European Commission was set up in the 1950s under the EU's founding treaties

Improved Windows for Cold Climates

Furthermore the presence of snow increases the solar radiation because of the reflection. In this paper the energy saving potentials for different window types have been examined by determining the net energy gains in Danish and Greenlandic climates. Furthermore the windows have been evaluated by performing building simulations of the heating demand in typical single-family houses in Denmark and Greenland. The examined windows are typical new windows from Nordic countries and new proposals of improved windows with low thermal transmittance and high total solar energy transmittance. The results show that net energy gain can be increased considerably by reducing the frame width, which results in a larger transparent area causing a larger solar gain but still maintaining a low thermal trans-mittance. Using three layers of glass with large gaps, using very slim frame profiles, and omitting the edge constructions that normally causes thermal bridges achieve this. Applying

London

The National Lottery also released a flood of funds for major enhancements to existing attractions, for example the roofing of the Great Court at the British Museum. The London Plan, published by the Mayor of London in 2004, estimated that the population would reach 8.1 million by 2016, and continue to rise thereafter. This was reflected in a move towards denser, more urban styles of building, including a greatly increased number of tall buildings,[6] and proposals for major enhancements to the public transport network. However, funding for projects such as Crossrail remained a struggle. On 6 July 2005 London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. However, celebrations were cut short the following day when, on 7 July 2005, London was rocked by a series of terrorist attacks. More than 50 were killed and 750 injured in three bombings on London Underground and another aboard a double decker bus near Russell Square in King's Cross.

party commission has been created to supervise the allocation process. In a January 2006 speech before United Russia Duma deputies, Putin manifested the terms of the relationship between the national projects and United Russia (Ibid 2010: 297): The national projects are not something handed down from above--they are United Russia's projects . . . They were developed with your input taken into account. Your proposals and the proposals of the government form their basis . . . The realization of the national projects is strictly the work of the party. During the decade, a lot of attention has also been focused on moves made by the Putin administration to expand the control over the national media. It is clear that the first aspiration of most of the media in Russia is not to deliver unbiased or balanced news. Instead, the media serves the existing elites in power. For this reason, the media uses every opportunity to

Margaret Thatcher

When the Conservative party under Edward Heath won the 1970 general election, Thatcher became an Education Minister. During her first months of work she was forced to make a cut in the education budget and therefore she abolished universal free milk for school-children. This caused a huge protest that gave her the name of "Thatcher Thatcher, Milk Snatcher". However, she also successfully stood against the introduction of library book charges. Within her term she also supported the proposals to close grammar schools and adopt comprehensive secondary education. Furthermore, Mrs. Thatcher also insisted that universities should accept not only school-leavers, but also adults. When Margaret became the Leader of Conservative Party, she made a speech where she made a scathing attack on the Soviet Union. In response the Soviet newspaper gave her the nickname of "Iron Lady" due to her steadfast character. The Prime Minister of UK

The Seaplane Harbour of Tallinn

The construction of Noblessner's shipyard had already begun on the adjacent plot and pursuant to the basic principles and plans of Tallinn's fortifications as approved by Nikolai II in 1911; the plan foresaw the construction of two identical and adjacent hangar complexes. At the beginning of March in 1916, Colonel Aleksandr Jaron, who was responsible for the construction works, sent 11 local and foreign companies calls for proposals for designing these hangars, which were then modestly referred to as reinforced concrete sheds. The deadlines were quite short due to the ongoing World War and bids were already expected by the end of March. Construction was set to start during the period of April 15th and June 1st, 1916. However, things did not go so smoothly and the successful project was chosen in the course of negotiations held on April 29th. The

Connecting Ideas Logically and Effectively

Discussion 1 Although Text 25 is not impossible to read, Text 26 is far easier. This is because in Text 26 the writer uses linking words moreover, however, consequently, although, therefore, alternatively to indicate the relationship between the ideas in the text. This makes it far easier for the reader to follow the writer's line of thought, or argument. Did you, for example, immediately realise that the last two sentences were alternative proposals when you read Text 25? If the writer's line of thought is not made clear to the reader in this way, there is a much greater chance that the reader will misunderstand the meaning that the writer intends. These linking words are therefore extremely important. Note that connectives may be grouped in two different ways. Firstly, they can be grouped according to meaning. Thus, but, although and however all have the same meaning and can all be

Only in recent decades has the country enjoyed something of a cultural and economic renaissance. Economic factors which have contributed to this recovery include a resurgent financial services industry, electronics manufacturing, (see Silicon Glen),] and the North Sea oil and gas industry. billion euro held by the national central banks of the member states as shareholders. The Court of Auditors The European Court of Auditors, despite its name, has no judicial powers. It ensures that taxpayer funds from the budget of the European Union have been correctly spent. The court provides an audit report for each financial year to the Council and Parliament. The Parliament uses this to decide whether to approve the Commission's handling of the budget. The Court also gives opinions and proposals on financial legislation and anti-fraud actions. The Court of Auditors was set up in 1975. It was created as an independent institution due to the sensitivity of the issue of fraud in the Union. It is composed of one member from each state appointed by the Council every six years. Every three years one of them is elected to be the president of the court, who is currently Vítor Manuel da Silva Caldeira. EU decision making procedure

The main reason for the selection of the subject matter of this thesis is its actuality and importance from the point of view of successful action of the enterprise and it is possible to develop this subject matter in the forthcoming papers. The evaluation of the profit and loss and, consequently, drawing conclusions and making proposals attribute a practical value to this thesis. In order to attain the objective, several methods of analysing solvency and financial statements on the basis of which the analysis will be conducted, are studied. The main methods on which the analysis is based, is the analysis of ratios and a horizontal and vertical analysis. pressing policy concern. But what do we actually mean by `integrated care'? This research report examines what is meant by `integrated care'. It explores integrated care from an NHS perspective, identifies the concepts that underpin integrated care, suggests how these can be used to inform practical integration efforts both within and beyond the NHS, and sets out how integration might be measured. Key points ·Under current Government proposals, new GP commissioning consortia will take over responsibility for £60 billion of the NHS budget. International experience suggests that the integration of primary and secondary care is vital to the delivery of efficient and effective care. ·Current reforms emphasise the need to integrate care more effectively. This emphasis reflects the long-standing concern in the NHS with how to address the division of care across primary and secondary care in particular.

Accept my thanks for the compliment you are paying me. I am very sensible of the honour of your proposals, but it is impossible for me to do otherwise than to decline them." I am therefore by no means discouraged by what you have just said, and shall hope to lead you to the altar ere long."

that makes politics the place of strange bedfellows, indeed. The out-of- character vote of one of our elected representatives on a bill or measure can often be understood as a favor returned to the bill's sponsor. Political analysts were amazed at Lyndon Johnson's success in getting so many of his programs through Congress during his early administration. Even members of Congress who were thought to be strongly opposed to the proposals were voting for them. Close examination by political scientists has found the cause to be not so much Johnson's political savvy as the large score of favors he had been able to provide to other legislators during his many years of power in the House HOW THE RULE WORKS _ and Senate. As president, he was able to produce a truly remarkable amount of legislation in a short time by calling in those favors

internal crisis at home, the Russian Red Army invaded. The Estonian War of Independence had begun. Though with severely limited resources, the active measures taken by the commander-in chief Johan Laidoner (1884- 1953) improved the situation. The most effective help was given by Finland by sending 3,500 volunteers. The Estonian soldiers fought against their historical enemies: the Russian Red Army and the Baltic-German Landeswehr. Against all odds, all three Baltic states received peace proposals from Soviet Russia in September 1919. The peace treaty with Estonia was signed in Tartu in February 1920, the Soviets acknowledged the Republic of Estonia and all territorial claims. CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Most people have never thought about their jobs in this way before. Finally, the boss adds one more detail. He tells them that they will each be competing against other people who will also be sub- mitting proposals for the same jobs. Whoever offers the company the best deal or price will get the position. ■ DETERMINE EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO If you were put into this position and you had to write out a pro- posal for your job, starting with the most important and valuable things that you do for your company, how would you explain your- self? How would you sell yourself to your current employer? How

[Codebreakers 297.jpg] Transcript of a German descrambling of an intercepted Churchill transatlantic conversation At 1:00 a.m. July 29, 1943, they hit the jackpot: a radiotelephone conversation between Roosevelt and Churchill. They were discussing the coup in Italy that had just ousted Mussolini's government: "We do not want proposals for an armistice to be made before we have been definitely approached," said Churchill. "That is right," agreed Roosevelt. "We can also wait quietly for one or two days." "That is right," said Roosevelt again. Churchill said that he would contact the king of Italy, and Roosevelt replied that he too would get in touch with "Emmanuel." "I do not know quite how I shall do this," he admitted. The Germans took the conversation as evidence of the treachery and complicity of the Italians:
