"The Printed Word will Never Die" essee

what is going to happen, how will the story end. Page after page after page, until eventually without notice, you have finished the book. I think that reading can be a very enjoyable activity, but some people just do not want to read, there can be many different reasons why they do not want to read, although I personally think that the main reasons can be lack of free time or being forced to read, which makes it very difficult to pick up a book. I think that the printed word will never die because there is something about printed books that just invites you to read them and doesn't let you put the book away until you have finished it. Newspapers in Britain

In britain, the newspaper industry, often called Fleet Street, has a mojar influance on public opinion and is a strong force in political life. Britain's press is unusual in that it is divided into two very different types of newspaper: the quality press and the popular press. The term quality press is used to describe papers, which follow the tradition of the journals of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The 'quality' papers are printed on large papers, have an undramatic layout and are serious in tone. They have editorials which comment on important issues and reflect the political views of the editor. They are more expensive than tabloids. Examples of the quality dailies are The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent and the Financial Times. People choose a paper that reflects their own political opinion. The popular press is mainly represented by papers founded after the launching day of the Daily

Media

Topic Entertainment & Media The first newspapers were probably handwritten newssheets that government posted in public places. The earliest known newssheet was probably the Acta Diurna (Daily Events). Which began in Rome in 59 B.C. It reported the proceedings of the Roman Senate and such news as births and deaths. The first printed newspaper was a Chinese circular called Dibao. It was printed from carved wooden blocks during the A.D. 700's. The first regular published printed newspaper in Europe was Avisa Relation oder Zeitung of Strasbourg, Germany (now France). It started in 1609. A weekly newssheet established in 1622 was the first printed newspaper in England. The ground work for mass communications in the 20th century was laid in the 19th century by two inventions, which allowed people to communicate by wire: the electric telegraph and the telephone

access. There were times when people could only get their newspapers by mail or from store, but now they just have to find Wi-Fi and use their gadget to be able to catch up with the latest news. In addition, even the most frequently published papers are only distributed once per day. This simply means that papers can’t compete with the Internet, because there we can see changes almost every hour. However, I can see why other people may think differently. The newspapers printed on paper have become a tradition which is going to be hard to let go. Quite a few people have grown up with the normal newspaper and for them it has sentimental value. In conclusion, internet is the newspapers future but paper printed ones will always be remembered.

Shakespeare/Poems and Sonnets

Rape of Lucrece, the virtuous wife Lucrece is raped by the lustful Tarquin. Influenced by Ovid's Metamorphoses, the poems show the guilt and moral confusion that result from uncontrolled lust.[ Both proved popular and were often reprinted during Shakespeare's lifetime. A third narrative poem, A Lover's Complaint, in which a young woman laments her seduction by a persuasive suitor, was printed in the first edition of the Sonnets in 1609. Most scholars now accept that Shakespeare wrote A Lover's Complaint. Critics consider that its fine qualities are marred by leaden effects. The Phoenix and the Turtle, printed in Robert Chester's 1601 Love's Martyr, mourns the deaths of the legendary phoenix and his lover, the faithful turtle dove. In 1599, two early drafts of sonnets 138 and 144

Robert Barker invested very large sums in printing the new edition, and consequently ran into serious debt, such that he was compelled to sub-lease the privilege to two rival London printers, Bonham Norton and John Bill. It appears that it was initially intended that each printer would print a portion of the text, share printed sheets with the others, and split the proceeds. Bitter financial disputes broke out, as Barker accused Norton and Bill of concealing their profits.universities of oxford and cambride managed to get the licenses for printing. Books Today and Tomorrow

People would rather watch moving pictures in the television than pick up an old book covered in dust. In the past, when there were no television or computers to entertain people, books were basically the only amusement. On the other hand the lifestyle of ours has gotten tremendously busy and some do not find the time to just sit back and relax by reading. With the development of technology, people will become more lazier which may result in the lack of reading. Printed books will be replaced with e-books, print media with social media and so on. They feel that books are unnecessary, all the information needed and more is available online. Furthermore we do not value education and intellectuality much anymore, instead we value more superficial things such as entertainment. Reading is not only amusing and entertaining but it also broadens the ming and keeps the brain functioning. It is a tremendous shame that people read less books time by time.

from black (0) to white (100). At 0% brightness, both hue and saturation are meaningless. Brightness as it is described here refers only to relative values within a source that we are looking at (for example, a display screen or printed document). The actual luminance (of a light source) or reflectance (of an object) is a different issue--these values are measured with devices such as photographic light meters. The distinction between levels of brightness is actually logarithmic, not linear as the HSB scale would imply.

Reading a quality or a popular newspaper

newspapers. Firstly, the main difference is in the content. From quality papers people can read about serious topics. This kind of papers contain inportant issues and reflect different political views. Also quality papers have financial and sports news. But from popular papers contain more sensational stories and scandals. Secondly, quite big difference is in the price and the looks between those two papers. Quality papers are printed on large pages, have an undramatic layout and very simple desing. Althoush they look serious their price is not very low. But on the other hand tabloids aim to excite the reader visually, using techniques such as very large headlines and photos. Those newspapers are more cheaper than quality papers. Accordingly, the readerships of those two different newspapers depend on the aforementioned different characteristics. For example, tabloids are more frequently bought by older and

Mass Media topic

It's one of the most common household appliances in the world today. The English-speaking peoples have always allowed more freedom of speech and of the press than most other countries. This gave them an advantage from the start in communications. Book-publishing grew rapidly in early modern England and America. So did newspapers, which were the first kind of mass media. A newspaper is a written publication containing news, information and advertising, usually printed on low-cost paper called newsprint. Newspapers often include articles on political events, crime, business, art, entertainment, society and sports. Most traditional newspapers also contain columns which express the personal opinions of the writers. The first newspapers were probably handwritten newssheets that governments posted in public places. There is a fundamental distinction between daily papers : quality and popular. Quality papers cater for more sophisticated readers

Powerpoint William Blake'st (inglise keeles)

He was the third of seven children. The Bible was an early and profound influence on Blake. At the age of 21, he was to become a professional engraver. After two years, Basire sent his apprentice to copy images from the Gothic churches in London His experiences in Westminster Abbey helped form his artistic style and ideas. Later life and career Blake's marriage to Catherine remained a close and devoted one until his death. Blake taught Catherine to write, and she helped him to colour his printed poems. William and Catherine's first daughter and last child might be Thel described in The Book of Thel who was conceived as dead. Politics Blake was not active in any well-established political party Blake was both concerned about senseless wars of kingdoms, and the blighting effects of the industrial revolution. Much of his poetry recounts in symbolic allegory the effects of the French and American revolutions. Death On the day of his death, Blake worked on his Dante series

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia If I were the minister of education in Estonia, I would change many things. Firstly, I would rather spend our money on building schools and purchasing new equipment for teaching, than wasting it on our tough national examinations, because there are a lot of schools that would need a new building. Secondly, English would be taught as a second language at schools. It must be a compulsory subject, because most of the world's population is talking English. I would have all the textbooks revised so that they would be updated with latest happenings and etc. Especially history, because we are learning from textbooks that are missing a lot of information that has been discovered after the book was printed. Also I would change most of the subjects for optional, that students can choose the best subjects for them. I think that the absences wouldn't be so punishable by the sc...

Charlie Chaplin

maintain complete control over every scene. This constant attention to detail ran many features over-time and over-budget, but the public reaction assured him and the studios that what he was doing worked. As his popularity increased he took more liberties with filming. Movies such as his 1925 hit, "The Gold Rush", demanded unending reworking of scenes and rebuilding of sets. Chaplin typically improvised his story in front of the camera with only a basic framework of a script. He shot and printed hundreds of takes when making a movie, each one a little experimental variation. While this method was unorthodox, because of the expense and inefficiency, it provided lively and spontaneous footage. Taking what he learned from the footage, Chaplin would often completely reorganize a scene. It was not uncommon for him to decide half-way through a film that an actor wasn't working and start over with someone new.

and where they originated, and what should be considered the first book in the world. Ancient document, written on parchment, papyri and vellum can hardly be qualified as books the way we understand the word today. Centuries went before paper replaced parchment and papyri. In the 15 th century Johann Gutenberg invented a mechanical process of duplicating texts, which we today call book printing. The first book was printed between 1444 and 1446, so these years can be considered as the beginning years of book printing. His most important preserved printings are the 40 copies of the Bible. By the end of the 15 th century there were about 1000 print-shops in Europe already. The oldest Estonian book dates back to 1535. Libraries form a vital part of education. Popular papers are smaller, cheaper and more colourful. They have large headlines and are designed to be read quickly. When newspaper is the oldest type of media, the internet is the newest one. During the years, the importance of computers and internet has grown rapidly. Some people predict that this may mean the end of the printed word as a means of communication. The biggest advantage is that internet is the quickest way to do everyday activities, like reading the latest news, searching for information, listening to music, watching films and TV series and online shopping. One of the oldest type of entertainment is the theatre. It is a word taken from the Ancient Greeks. It means Seeing Place. A typical stage-play depends on 3 things: actions seen, words spoken and people watching and listening

Referencing style, kuidas kirjandites autoritele viidata

The book reference is then given in the standard way. 4 FOR NEWSPAPER ARTICLES Smith, C.U.M. (1994). You are a group of neurons. The Times Higher Educational Supplement, 27 May, 20-21. 5 FOR INFORMATION TAKEN FROM THE WORLD WIDE WEB All references begin with the same information that would be provided for a printed source (or as much of that information as possible). The Web information is then placed at the end of the reference. It is important to use "Retrieved from" and the date because documents on the Web may change in content, move, or be removed from a site altogether. To cite a Web site in text (but not a specific document), it is sufficient to give the address (e.g., http://www.apa.org) there. No reference entry is needed. Here is an example of how to cite material posted on the APA's Web page

Inglise keele kodulugemine teemal: Mass Media

and Internet are often referred to as the new-age media. Internet has opened up several new opportunities for mass communication which include email, websites, blogging, Internet tv and many other mass media which are booming today. History and Origin of Mass Media History of mass media can be traced back to the early days of dramas that were performed in various cultures. However, the term Mass Media originated with the print media that was also its first example. The first newspaper was printed in China 868 A.D, but due to the high cost of paper and illiteracy amongst people, it didn't prosper. Regarding the origin of the Mass Media, Europe can boast to be the primary source. It was Johannes Gutenberg, who for the first time printed a book in a printing press in 1453. Gradually, during the period post-Second World War, radio, television and video were introduced. The audio-visual facilities became very popular as they provided information and entertainment

Inglise keele ajalugu, essee "My languages"

My languages I love different languages. I mean, I really, really love different languages. I also believe and have been told that I pick them up rather easily. That might be true, although I did not pick any Greek up in Greece but that might have been because they spoke so damn fast that I could not tell if it was a word or an entire sentence. The first foreign language I learned was Russian. Considering I was ten when Estonia became a Republic, it makes sense. We began studying Russian in first grade, though it was simplified – "koška" instead of "kot", "medvešonok" instead of "medved", "saichik" etc. Did not make much sense and we mostly played some games in Russian (Tare-tareke etc). Learned as much playing outside, since we had Estonian-Russian kids around as well. Not that we played with them. It's sad to say but it was not a nice time to be a Russian kid. We were mean to them, and we...

A Modern Answer to the Commune

opinion anyway, and a pretty terrific catch for just about anyone. But early last week, they still had no firm prospects and, more important, no house. The two were barely sleeping, they said; the reporter fretted over them. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, a similar scenario was being enacted. There, three roommates already had their house, a funky Victorian in the Cedar Park neighborhood, but needed five more. Their advertisement on Craigslist ran to two pages when printed out and contained all sorts of buzz words that had been chosen, said its authors, reached by phone last week, to winnow out those looking for a mere room -- or "dudes looking for cheap housing," as Emili Feigelson, 19, put it. But many had to be explained to this reporter, who was puzzled by certain phrases. 2 "You will probably not feel at home here unless anti-ableism, anti-ageism, anti-classism,

Valga's High School students are generally aware of the changes in today's world, including the changes and achievements of e-book.Majority of students are interested in e-books - they are new and interesting, even though in reality they are just simple text files. With the responses i received from the survey, i can confidently say that printed books will not be disappearing any time soon. Nobody can predict when e-books will reach the top or what the e-readers will look like in the future. Nobody knows whether the paper books will endure for centuries to come or not. The 4 oldest Churches in Tallinn

In 2004, a piece of wall dating back to an older period than the 14 th-century church was discovered under the existing church wall, which raised unanswered questions and provided further material for study. The pastors of the church have been remarkable individuals form the Estonian national viewpoint and this must have been the reason why the Estonians preferred the Holy Ghost congregation to the others since early times. The authors of the earliest preserved Estonian-language printed book (only 11 pages have been found so far, used as filling in the covers of another book) Simon Wanradt and Johann Kõll worked here. They compiled an Estonian-language catechism due to the reformation and the book was printed in 1535. Estonian-language services were held in the church until the middle of the 19 th century, but with the completion of the St.John's (1867) and St.Charles' (1870) churches,

Fleet Street- the home of the British press until the 1980s; a metonym for the British national press. 18. National newspapers- 69.6% read a national newspaper. Daily and Sunday papers.. Perhaps
