Many people told me before reading this book, that they have never read a better book in their life. After first couple of chapters I thought we just have different tastes in books, as I usually do have, but the book was quite interesting in the end. Most of all I liked the plot, I think it was very well written and the author had good imagination. Also, the philosophy in this book was worth reading. Usually when you are in the middle of the book, you can predict what happens in the end. With this book it was different. I did not think it would end like that, so the end was a bit surprising and interesting for me. On the other hand, I did not like the long weird descriptions that occured frequently. With the responses i received from the survey, i can confidently say that printed books will not be disappearing any time soon. Nobody can predict when e-books will reach the top or what the e-readers will look like in the future. Nobody knows whether the paper books will endure for centuries to come or not. In 2005, the US produced 42% of the world's corn and it is has a variety of uses. About 50% of the field corn grown in the USA is used for animal feed, but smaller volumes, i.e. 10% is used for direct human consumption in corn based meals. Corn is also important in providing cooking oil and margarine in the USA. In addition, corn sweeteners supply more than 56% of the sweeteners market in the US (Soyatech, 2012). Nevertheless, it has been hard to predict how decreased production actually has impacted the food market. Corn's primary utilisation is in animal feed, and even then it is often mixed with other feed types. Corn's higher prices on the first hand result in substitution with other feed cereals, which does not necessarily result in increased food prices (Leibtag, 2008). Figure 6. Peak oil Peak Oil is the projection that future petroleum production (whether for individual oil wells, entire oil fields, whole countries, or worldwide production) will eventually peak and then decline at a similar rate to the rate of increase before the peak as these reserves are exhausted. The peak of oil discoveries was in 1965, and oil production per year has surpassed oil discoveries every year since 1980. Hubbert applied his theory to accurately predict the peak of U.S. oil production at a date between 1966 and 1970. This prediction was based on data available at the time of his publication in 1956. In the same paper, Hubbert predicts world peak oil in "half a century" after his publication, which would be 2006.
