The Price of Everlasting Youth Everlasting youth is something that people value most when they are already older. But Dorian captured the ideal moment which he wanted to be eternal. His decision was influenced by Harry's ideas and the portrait of him where he saw how beautiful he was. Dorian wished that he could remain young forever and his portrait would get older. Harry was a friend of Basil's, the artist who painted Dorian's picture, and he had quite peculiar ideas of life. He told Dorian that youth is the most relevant in life and that everyone should enjoy it. Basil knew that Harry wouldn't be good influence for young boy, but he wasn't able to prevent their encounter. Over time Harry's ideas fix in Dorian's mind and he changes into someone that he was not like before. When his first love, Sibyl Vane, who was
honest face, no dark secrets in that. Over the course of the day, Henry manages to totally change Dorian's perspective on the world. From that point on, Dorian's previously innocent point of view is dramatically different--he begins to see life as Lord Henry does as a succession of pleasures in which questions of good and evil are irrelevant. Henry tolds Dorian that youth and beauty is most important things in life. Dorian wishes he could trade his soul to stay as young as he looks in the portrait. Dorian curses his portrait. Basil finishes his portrait of Dorian, and gives it to the young man, who keeps it in his home, where he can admire his own beauty. Lord Henry continues to exert his influence over Dorian, he grows more and more distant from Basil. Dorian and develops his own interests and proposes to live a life dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure. He falls in love with Sibyl Vane, a young actress who performs in a theater in London's slums

somehow making Dorian evil, he starts enjoying life at first, but later on his actions take a darker turn. All of that starts when Dorian meets lord Henry Wotton, who tells him that one should cherish his youth, because youth is only temporary. Lord Henry himself is a fine example of an upperclass gentleman. His day mostly consist of elegant dinners with the London's elite and attending shows, operas etc. He's trying to make Dorian like him, while Basil Hallward, the artist who painted the portrait of Dorian told him not to. Basil seemed to have an affection for Dorian, making him jealous when Dorian spends time with lord Henry. Somewhere along the line Dorian met an actor called Sybill Vane and fell for her. He invites lord Henry and Basil to watch a play, where she plays. After the play lord Henry tells Dorian that she is a good looking woman, but she's no actor. Dorian then dumps her. the starting point of the events. In the beginning Dorian was a young undamaged simple boy and I think that Basil was right to have the wish to prevent Dorian meeting Harry. When Dorian hears the ideas that Harry has for life of pleasure, beauty and youth, he adopts them immediately. As he sees his portrait, Dorian becomes aware of his beauty and says the fateful wish that if only he could remain young and the portrait would become old. The first sign that his wish had become true is seen when Dorian is very heartless and rude to Sibyl Vane, an actress to whom he wanted to marry. When young Dorian discovers that his painting has changed and that his wish had come true, he hides the painting to a room where no one but him has access to. As time goes by, he becomes more infected by the ideas of Henry, but he loses control over his behaviour and his reputation in public decreases

It talks about the evil, that lies inside humans, and when it comes out, there is nothing we can do. Dorian Gray had the same problem. At the beginning of the book he was a very wealthy, intelligent man with a very high status. His beauty charmed others. Basil Hallward was inspired to draw his portrait in order to preserve his beauty and youth. With Lord Henry practically "brain-washing" Dorian, he recognised that as long as he remained as young as he was in the painting, he would be handsome. He feared the day he would age and start to form wrinkles. For that not to happen, he traded his soul for his youth. From the moment he becomes forever young, he begins to deteriorate. The Price of Everlasting Beauty I read Oscar Wilde's book called "The Picture of Dorian Gray". It talks about a man who never ages, instead a portrait of him ages. Dorian can be forever beautiful but is it worth it? Dorian realizes that he cannot be young forever and wishes that the portrait would age not him but he does not think about the consequence. Lord Henry points out that Dorian cannot be beautiful and young forever and Dorian wishes that the painting would age not him. I think this it not worth it because everyone around Dorian will grow old and eventually die. He would see the people he cares about dying. Also, when Dorian understand that he can be beautiful forever, he does not care so much about what is going to happen or even what is going to happen with people

The Picture of Dorian Gray came out in 1891, in Estonian 1929. It is the only published novel written by Oscar Wilde and also considered as a classic gothic horror fiction with a little bit of philosophy in it. I decided to read this book in Estonian, because I have two books in this language available at home. The book I read was published by Eesti Päevaleht in 2007 and it consists of 184 pages. The story is centred on Dorian Gray, a young man of great beauty and on his portrait, painted by Basil Hallward. From my point of view, I think that Wilde wanted to teach us a lesson about being too conceited and having such a high opinion of oneself. It is well known that nobody gets away without punishment. The Body The book tells the story of how a friend of Dorian, the artist Basil Hallward, awakens Dorian's vanity with his painting. After admiring and worshipping portrait of himself Dorian

Gladys receives a letter which implies that Dorian is going to kill himself. He hopes his decision to amend his life will have changed the painting, and he considers that perhaps his decision not to ruin the innkeeper's daughter's reputation will be reflected in the painted face. Vincent Willem van Gogh (30. märts 1853 Zundert 29. juuli 1890) oli hollandi maalikunstnik. Van Gogh on tuntud postimpressionist. Kõik tema tööd (umbes 900 maali ja 1100 graafilist tööd) valmisid kõigest 10 aasta jooksul, kuid vaimuhaigus võttis ta üle võimust ning 37- aastaselt ta tappis enese.
