Studies show that most effective and best for healing time are antibiotics such as penicillin, florfenicol and cloxacillin indicate active treatment reduces healing time compared with placebo. Two cloxacillin dosages of 20 mg/kg should be administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous 72 hours apart. Florfenicol, given once subcutaneously (40 mg/kg) or twice 2 days apart intramuscularly (20 mg/kg) to experimentally infected calves.
