The vikings Ursula 11. kl Who were the vikings? The Vikings were the Norse explorers, warriors, merchants, and pirates who raided, traded, explored and settled in wide areas of Europe, Asia and the North Atlantic islands from the late 8th to the mid11th century. The Vikings came from three countries of Scandinavia: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The Viking age in European history was about AD 700 to 1100. During this period many Vikings left Scandinavia and travelled to other countries, such as Britain and Ireland. Some went to fight and

London, the capital of the UK, and such historical cities as Windsor, Dover and Brighton are situated here. When people travel to Britain by sea or by air they usually arrive in the Southeast, for this is where the main passenger ports and airports are. Heathrow airport, one of the world's busiest airports is about 33 km west of central London. The Southwest is the region where the main activity is farming. The Southwest used to be known for its pirates. The two principal cities of the region are Bristol and Bath. If you want to see the famous Stonehenge you should also come here. The most westerly point of Great Britain "Land's End" is also in the Southwest. East Anglia is very flat and it is another farming region. It has beautiful cities with fine historic buildings such as Cambridge. It is more that half surrounded by the sea. The Midlands, known as the heart of England, is the largest industrial part in the country
A prominent feature of the central highlands is a rift valley, the largest body of water on the island, having a length of forty kilometers. This region has experienced geological subsidence, and earth tremors are frequent here. The west coast The west coast, composed of sedimentary formations deposited in several layers over time, is more indented than the east coast. Deep bays and well-protected harbors have attracted explorers, traders, and pirates from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The area has served as an important bridge between Madagascar and the outside world. The southwest The southwest is bordered on the east by the Ivakoany Massif and on the north by the Isala Roiniforme Massif. It includes two regions along the south coast, the Mahafaly Plateau and the desert region occupied by the Antandroy people. Seasons There are two seasons: a hot rainy

At the graveyard, they witness the murder of young Dr. Robinson by the Native- American “half-breed” Injun Joe. Scared, Tom and Huck run away and swear a blood oath not to tell anyone what they have seen. Injun Joe blames his companion, Muff Potter, a hapless drunk, for the crime. Potter is wrongfully arrested, and Tom’s anxiety and guilt begin to grow. Tom, Huck, and Tom’s friend Joe Harper run away to an island to become pirates. While frolicking around and enjoying their newfound freedom, the boys become aware that the community is sounding the river for their bodies. Tom sneaks back home one night to observe the commotion. After a brief moment of remorse at the suffering of his loved ones, Tom is struck by the idea of appearing at his funeral and surprising everyone. He persuades Joe and Huck to do the same. Their return is met with great rejoicing, and they become the envy and admiration of all their friends.

and the surrounding ocean. The total land mass is almost 8,000 sq. km. Highest peak is Wolf Volcano reaching 1707m. The present islands are all younger than 4 million years and were formed separately from other land masses as a result of volcanic eruptions. The Galapagos were discovered in 1535 by Fray Toms de Berlanga, the Bishop of Panama. He was sailing from Panama to Peru when he accidentally discovered the islands. Islands became a favorite hideout for Pirates and the favorite location for whale hunters. After whales were locally cleared the whalers went there for tortoises, an estimated 200 000 or more adults had been removed. The island of Floreana was populated with a group of convicts' in October 1832. Charls Darwin visited the island in 1835, he spent there 5 weeks. Nowadays five of the islands are populated with about 40 000 inhabitants. The name Island of Galapagos means island of tortoises.

M. S. Pinafore", ,,The Pirates of Penzance" ja ,,Mikaado" etendatakse jätkuvalt ning mõnedest on isegi film tehtud. Need koomilised ooperid mõjutasid hilisemaid Ameerika operette, nagu näiteks Victor Herbert'i loomingut ja muusikale. Tänu heliloojate Edward German, Lionel Monckton ja Harold Fraser-Simson'i teostele võime kohata Inglise operette ka kahekümnendas sajandis ent nende teosed omandasid üha rohkem muusikali omadusi kuni erinevus ,,vanamoodsa muusikali" ja

was widely established, the population grew, and settlement expanded. Cultural influences from the Roman Empire reached Estonia, and this era is therefore also known as the Roman Iron Age. A more troubled and war-ridden middle Iron Age followed with external dangers coming both from the Baltic tribes, who attacked across the southern land border, and from overseas. Several Scandinavian sagas refer to campaigns against Estonia. Estonian pirates conducted similar raids in the Viking age and sacked and burned the Scandinavian capital of Sigtuna in 1187. By the early 13th century, Estonia was divided into eight large counties -- Saaremaa, Läänemaa, Rävala, Harju, Viru, Järva, Sakala, and Ugandi. Annual consultations were held by representatives of several counties and developments took the direction of establishing a state. Estonia until this time retained a pagan religion centered around a deity called Tharapita. Estonia was

The Danes were of the same Germanic race as the Anglo-Saxons, but they still lived in tribes, were pagans. The Danes were well armed with long swords, spears, daggers, axes, bows, iron helmets & chain armour. Their ships were sailing-boats, but they were also provided wiht oars. The sails were often red & blue & green. At the prow of the ship there was usually a carved dragon's head which rose high out of the water. The Danes were bold & skilful seamen. The word ,,Vikings" probably means ,,pirates" or ,,the people of the sea inlets". At first they only raided & plundered. Came in spring & summer, burnt churches and monasteries, loaded their ships and returned home. London itself was raided in 851. The Danes were successful, because the Anglo-Saxons had neither a regular army nor a fleet, no coastguards, so the raiders could appear unexpectedly. There were few bad roads, so it took several weeks to send a messenger & ask for help and help was a long time in coming.
The word Eskimo comes from 1580s, probably from an Algonquian word, such as Abenaki askimo and Ojibwa ashkimeq, traditionally said to mean literally “eaters of raw meat”. filibuster – Today, the term filibuster refers to act of delay action in Congress or another law- making group by making very long speeches. However, the term filibutor “pirate” was first used in 1580s and was probably derived from the Dutch vrijbuiter “freebooter”, which in turn was used for the pirates in the West Indies in Spanish (filibuster) and French (flibustier) forms. Americans had loaned the word from Dutch in 1560s and it became “freebooter” in American English, meaning “plunderer, robber, pirate.” In its legislative sense, filibuster was first used by Albert G. Brown in 1853, referring to Abraham Watkins Venable's speech against filibustering (“pirating”) intervention in Cuba. gerrymandering – In the modern sense of the word, gerrymandering refers to when politicians

The estimated population in 2007 was 1.3 million. From approximately the first to fifth centuries AD, resident farming was established and the population grew. A more troubled and war-ridden middle Iron Age followed with dangers coming both from the Baltic tribes and from overseas. Several Scandinavian sagas refer to Estonian pirates. During the wars under foreign rule, the number of Estonians diminished. At one point the population in the whole country was only half a million. Although wars devastated the country, it recovered quickly and its people with it. Under Soviet rule in the 20 th century, many Estonians, Lithuanians and Latvians were deported to the coldest parts of Siberia. Hundreds of thousands of migrants were relocated to Estonia from other
12) ST. PATRICK'S DAY St. Patrick's Day honours Ireland's patron saint, who brought Christianity to a pagan nation. On the 17th of March the Irish celebrate the anniversary of his death. Many scholars think that there must have been at least two Patricks. The patron saint of Ireland was not Irish by birth or the origin of his parents. Magnus Sucatus Patricius was born in 386. His father was a high-ranking town official. One day he was captured by pirates and sold as a slave to Ireland. He spent six years in slavery and then he escaped by hiding on a ship which sailed to France. He entered a monastery and wanted to study religion. He wanted to become a free man and a missionary. He became a priest, then a bishop. He returned to Ireland to bring Christianity to people. The local pagan priests used all their magic on him and they were very powerful. Once they poisoned his wine but Patrick removed the poison miraculously and drank the wine.
There are different lists: white, black and grey. White country ships allowed everywhere. Black country ships can be not allowed somewhere. Grey is somewhere in between. In the high seas ship has to have at least one flag. If ship has none or more than one then can be considered a pirate and arrested by any military ship. If civil ship goes to another state water, to territorial waters, then they should bear that country's flag as well. Pirates can also make fake flags and ships can transport drugs etc. military ships can check ships in the high seas done at the risk of that military ship's state. If they stop some ship and check and don't find anything, then the state has to pay compensation. Serious grounds should be for this usage. Military ships can arrest pirates, but what to do later with pirates? They should be legally tried in the country who seized them
businessmen are actually liers who destroy and cheat. Vice has become a virtue, the virtuous are mocked by the others, the system of values are turned upside town. The only power is money. Even the most honest man has problems of remainig honest. He says that in fact corruption can be traced to the very roots of colonial america. For example he even mentions the origin of the first owners of the houses of New Bay town. Some of their ancesters were pirates. They got their original capitals by pirating. Now the family say that they are old familys with old money. The protagonist is Ethan Allen Hawley. He is well educated, he comes from a good family, wife and two children, at the beginning he is a honest, good man. His family has alost all of his money , he is forced to work in a grocery store under Marullo who is illegal immigrant from Italy. Gradually he starts thinking about how life is unfair, and
Observational studies cannot control or even document all of the variables involved. Observational studies can only show correlation: A and B both exist at the same time in one group. They cannot show cause and effect.4 In contrast, randomized and controlled experiments control variables and can therefore show cause and effect (causation): A causes B to happen. The satirical religion Pastafarianism purposely confuses correlation and causation: With a decrease in the number of pirates, there has been an increase in global warming over the same period. Therefore, global warming is caused by a lack of pirates. Even more compelling: Somalia has the highest number of Pirates AND the lowest Carbon emissions of any country. Coincidence? Drawing unwarranted cause-and-e ect conclusions from observational studies is the bread- and-butter of media and cause- or financially-driven scientists blind to their own lack of ethics. Don't fall for Pastafarianism in science.
Scarecrow has a plan which requires Lion to be the leader. T h i s makes sense since he is the most ferocious-looking, but he still wants to be talked out of it. Message: T h e Approach is a good time to recalibrate your team, express misgivings, and give encouragement. Team members make sure all are in agreement about goals, and determine that the right people are in the right jobs. There may even be bitter battles for dominance among the group at this stage, as pirates or thieves fight for control of the adventure. However, here the Cowardly Lion's efforts to escape responsibility are comic, and point up another function of the Approach: comic relief. T h i s may be the last chance to relax and crack a joke because things are about to get deadly serious in the Supreme Ordeal phase.
