Raphael Sanzio

Raphael Sanzio Raphael (April 6 or March 28, 1483 April 6, 1520) was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. Raphael was enormously productive, running an unusually large workshop. Most of his work remains especially in the Vatican. He received his first training from his father, Giovanni Santi, who was a poet and a painter. After that he became a student and assistant of the painter Perugino. Raphael imitated his master closely and sometimes it is difficult to distinguish which works are painted by Raphael. His work at that period is Marriage of the Virgin (1.) Mary receives a ring from Joseph. In contrast to the calm figures of the main group, there are one man, who is shown in motion (liikuvuses). He is breaking a dead stick over his knee, because he fail to win Mary's heart. Joseph's stick, on the other hand, has blossomed.

The Pre-Raphaelites

During Queen Victoria`s reign interest grew in classical literature and the history of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as in the legendary medieval past of Britain itself. Artists started to combine sex and art in a tasteful manner acceptable to Victorian sensibility- paintings of Greek and Roman ladies at their bath and in other intimate situations. The technical expectations were very high towards these paintings. A new current was set in motion by Rossetti, who was a poet as well as a painter. He developed a style full of mysterious undertones, using colour not to describe nature realistically but to suggest mood and feeling. William Hunt (1827-1910) He was the leading member. Kept true to the original aims of the brotherhood. He wasn't as talented as the other two. His works have been said to be remarkable force. Hunt was a well- known artist during his lifetime. "Light of the World" ( 1853)- For a very long time it was one of Britain's best known pictures.

The Picture of Dorian Gray / Dorian Gray portree

where it seemed like Wilde himself was retelling the story. The tone of the book is shocking and immoral and it made the overall mood of the story a little bit revolting and dark. The main charachter in this book is of course Dorian Gray. He is an ideal of beauty and this makes him arrogant. He thinks that if he is beautiful, everything is allowed to him. He kills one of his friends Basil, a conventially minded and talented painter and does not even feel guilty after that. The third quite important charachter there is Lord Henry, a friend of both Dorian and Basil. He is a charming talker and a brilliant intellect. The climax occurs when Dorian kills Basil. He thinks that since Basil painted the portrait, that ruined Dorian's life, the painter should be punished for this. Evaluation I think that the writing was effective and definately the author achieved his purpose. Many

Essay about museums

Nowadays there are many museums in every country and almost in every city. Despite that people still do not visit museums as much as doing other activities. What might be the reasons of this? There are certain arguments in favour of visiting museums. The first important advantage of museums is that it educates and broadens your mind. For example, when you go to visit the exhibition, you learn more about the painter and the story behind the picture. Another advantage of museums is that it represents the country. As a result tourists become more aware of our country. On the other hand, there are people who are against of visiting museums. The main drawback of this is that museums cost a lot of money. As a result, many people can not afford to go to the museum. Another disadvantage of visiting museums is that they might be boring. Therefore it is a waste of money and time.

In the London home of his aunt, Lady Brandon, the famous painter Basil Hallward encounters Dorian Gray. When the book starts the artist is finishing his first portrait of Dorian as he truly sees him, but, as he admits to his companion Lord Henry Wotton, the painting frustrates him because it reveals too much of his feeling for his subject. The Palace of Versailles / Versailles' loss

This huge and magnificent palace started as a hunting lodge that was built for King Louis XIII in 1624. The small lodge was the beginning of an extremely huge palace that would cost the French government more then they could imagine. It is located in the city of Versailles, in northern France, 16 km southwest of Paris.  In order for Louis to have such a wonderful place he hired an architect named Louis Le Vau and a painter named Charles Le Brun. These two men made plans to build a palace that would, including gardens, cover a total of 37,000 acres. When this was completed, the king, decided it was not enough. Jules Hardouin-Mansart was hired to redesign parts of the palace. Louis Le Vau He designed and built the beautiful Hall of Mirrors. The Hall of Mirrors received its name because of the fact

Algselt oma isa käe all õppinud, läks Sittow aastal 1484 Bruggesse Hans Memlingi juurde õppima, kes oli ka nimekas kunstnik. Aastatel 1492- 1504 töötas Sittow Kastiilia kuninganna Isabel I õukonnas ja Burgundia hertsogi Philipp Ilusa teenistuses. Aastal 1505 maalis ta portree Inglismaa kuninga Henry VII...

Tallinn town hall

The arcade that earlier enhanced the stateliness and individuality of the Town Hall as well as the windows of the basement and the ground floor were walled up. Partitions were built into the Citizens' Hall, turning its space into several separate rooms. A lot of the medieval architecture of the Town Hall was destroyed or distorted in the course of that reconstruction. In 1667 the interior decor of the Council Chamber was modernised. Lunette paintings to themes of the Bible were ordered from painter Johann Aken and carved wooden friezes beneath them from Elert Thiele and Joachim Armbrust. In the 19th century both the windows of the Town Hall and its eastern façade were rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style. The structure stepped into the 20th century with big changes in its exterior and interior decoration, and smaller changes followed in the first half of the 20th century. The spire of the tower was consumed in flames in a Soviet air raid on 9 March 1944. This triggered

Referaat Elton John'ist

John's mother Sheila, though also strict with her son, was more vivacious than her husband, and something of a free spirit. With Stanley Dwight uninterested in his son and often physically absent, John was raised primarily by his mother and maternal grandmother. When his father was home, the Dwights would have terrible arguments that greatly distressed their son. John was 15 when they divorced. Sheila was soon remarried to a local painter named Fred Farebrother, who turned out to be a caring and supportive stepfather. John affectionately referred to him as "Derf", his first name in reverse. They moved into flat No. 1A in an eight-unit apartment building called Frome Court, not far from both previous homes. It was there that John would write the songs that would launch his career as a rock star; he would live there until he had four albums simultaneously in the American Top 40. Early career (19621969)

The Great Wave off Kanagawa

[21] The sea and the waves The sea is the dominant element of the composition, that is taken up by an extending wave about to break, which dominates the entire scene. In the moment captured in this image the wave forms a circle whose center is in the center of the design, allowing the viewer to see Mt Fuji in the background. Edmond de Goncourt described the wave in this way: The drawing of the wave is a deification of the sea made by a painter who lived with the religious terror of the overwhelming ocean completely surrounding his country; He is impressed by the sudden fury of the ocean's leap toward the sky, by the deep blue of the inner side of the curve, by the splash of its claw-like crest as it sprays forth droplets.[23] Andreas Ramos, a writer, notes: [...]a seascape with Fuji. The waves form a frame through which we see the mountain. The gigantic wave is a yin yang of empty space beneath the mountain
