Flood ● A flood is an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges land. ● Flooding usually happens by overflowing rivers and lakes. ● Floods often cause damage to homes and businesses if they are placed in natural flood plains of rivers. Major causes of floods ● Heavy rainfall ● Huge snow melting ● Tidal waves ● Something blocking the flow of rivers Different types of floods ● Slow-Onset Floods – usually lasts the longest, sometimes up to months. ● Rapid-Onset Floods – does not last so long, up to 2 days only. Usually causes more damage than slow-onset flood. ● Flash Floods – lasts up to few hours. Causes the greatest damages to the society. Deadliest floods ● Huang He yellow river, China 1931 Death toll: 1,000,000-3,700,000 ● Huang He yellow river, China 1887 Death toll: 900,000-2,000,000

Music has always been a great healer. Many experts suggest that the rhythm of the music or the beat that has the calming effect on us although we may not be very conscious about. Music was found to reduce the pain during dental procedures. Playing music in the background while we are working, seemingly unaware of the music itself, has been found to reduce the stress. Music was found to reduce heart rates and to promote higher body temperature - an indication of the onset of relaxation. Combining music with relaxation therapy was more effective than doing relaxation therapy alone. Those who practice music therapy are finding a benefit in using music to help cancer patients, children with ADD, and others, and even hospitals are beginning to use music and music therapy to help with pain management, to help ward off depression, to promote movement, to calm patients, to ease muscle tension, and for many other benefits that music and music therapy can bring

the slack out of the seat belt. In an airbag, the initiator is used to ignite solid propellant inside the airbag inflater. The burning propellant generates inert gas which rapidly inflates the airbag in approximately 20 to 30 milliseconds. An airbag must inflate quickly in order to be fully inflated by the time the forward-traveling occupant reaches its outer surface. Typically, the decision to deploy an airbag in a frontal crash is made within 15 to 30 milliseconds after the onset of the crash, and both the driver and passenger airbags are fully inflated within approximately 60-80 milliseconds after the first moment of vehicle contact. If an airbag deploys too late or too slowly, the risk of occupant injury from contact with the inflating airbag may increase. Since more distance typically exists between the passenger and the instrument panel, the passenger airbag is larger and requires more gas to fill it.
Phonology. Mid-term 2. Syllable - is a phonological unit consisting of one or more phonemes. In phonetics a syllable is a unit which consists of a centre, that has little or no obstruction to airflow; it is comparatively louder than other sounds. In phonology syllables are the possible combinations of phonemes. The syllable consists of - onset, nucleus, coda. (every syllable has a nucleus: vowel, syllabic l, or m, n). Rhyme/rime nucleus + coda; the nucleus and the coda constitute a sub-syllabic unit rhyme. Words rhyme, when their nucleus and coda are identical. (E.g 'cr-o-wn', 'd-o-wn'). The hierarchical structure of the syllable: Onset the beginning of the syllable Nucleus/peak the open part of a syllable, generally a vowel. Coda a consonant sound which ends the syllable. Open syllable - has no coda
Plot Overview Lieutenant Frederic Henry is a young American ambulance driver serving in the Italian army during World War I. At the beginning of the novel, the war is winding down with the onset of winter, and Henry arranges to tour Italy. The following spring, upon his return to the front, Henry meets Catherine Barkley, an English nurse's aide at the nearby British hospital and the love interest of his friend Rinaldi. Rinaldi, however, quickly fades from the picture as Catherine and Henry become involved in an elaborate game of seduction. Grieving the recent death of her fiancé, Catherine longs for love so deeply that she will settle for the illusion of it
Sisuliselt on see liha riknemise esimene etapp - aga see ongi eesmärk ("effectively this is the onset of the beginning of decay - but it's nothing to be alarmed about"). Õiges keskkonnas ei hakka liha roiskuma enne mitut nädalat või isegi kuud. Laagerdudes kaotab liha ka niiskust. Paradoksaalselt on see kokkamise seisukohast positiivne. Märg, värske, mittelaagerdunud liha sisaldab palju vett, kuumtöötlemisel vesi paisub, venitab-kisub lihaskiude ja voolab kiudude vahelt välja (seda eriti peale liha kuumtöötlemist ning tükeldamisel).

that took in children of British nationals living in India. The two children would live with the couple, Captain and Mrs. Holloway, at their house, Lorne Lodge, for the next six years. In his autobiography, published some 65 years later, Kipling would recall this time with horror, and wonder ironically if the combination of cruelty and neglect he experienced there at the hands of Mrs. Holloway might not have hastened the onset of his literary life. She ruled the boarding house with fire and brimstone and Kipling was often beaten by her and her son. "Then the old Captain died, and I was sorry, for he was the only person in that house as far as I can remember who ever threw me a kind word."--ibid. Kipling soon learned to read and found solace in literature and poetry, voraciously turning to the magazines and books his parents sent him including Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. success in particular environments. r-selection (unstable environments) In unstable or unpredictable environments, r-selection predominates as the ability to reproduce quickly is crucial. There is little advantage in adaptations that permit successful competition with other organisms, because the environment is likely to change again. Traits that are thought to be characteristic of r-selection include: high fecundity, small body size, early maturity onset, short generation time, and the ability to disperse offspring widely. Organisms whose life history is subject to r-selection are often referred to as r-strategists or r-selected. Organisms with r-selected traits range from bacteria and diatoms, through insects and weeds, to various semelparous cephalopods andmammals, especially small rodents. K-selection (stable environments) In stable or predictable environments, K-selection predominates as the ability to compete successfully
words, it can then be stated that up to 2 or 3 words can be read in a second, or simi- larly: a subtitle with those characteristics should stay on screen about 5 and a half seconds. The author proposes to increase this suggested time to 6 seconds, because "the brain needs ¼½ of a second to start processing the subtitle it has traced". This initial period, supposedly needed for reading preparation is usually referred to as "onset". Likewise, the author indicates that such a subtitle should not be more than 6 seconds on the screen, because "this would cause automatic re-reading of the subtitle, especially by fast readers". These statements have been decisive to the creation of the so-called "6 second rule", which has become a best-known teaching standard for subtitling over the years. Mayoral (2001, 4) mentions variable reading speeds for cinema (10 frames per
Consequently LeDoux (2000) pointed out the need to discover new approaches in emotional research. Furthermore, while some field strategies measured ER, there was less attention given to automatic regulatory processes such as physiological responses and taught behaviour patterns in childhood (Fitzsimons & Bargh, 2004; Gollwitzer, 1999; Cohen, 1997). Davidson (2000) argued that there are regulatory processes in emotion that occur automatically which modulate the onset and recovery function of emotion. He suggested that these regulatory processes influence the emotional information processing at the conscious level, however not themselves being in conscious experience. In other words there are operating regulatory processes that are automatic and therefore cannot be controlled intentionally. It is known that people use a range of different strategies to regulate their emotions (Ochsner & Gross, 2004; Gross, 1998b). Gross (2001) has proposed a
Libet et al. asked their subjects to fixate a spot rotating every 2560 ms on a screen. Subjects made a voluntary movement of the right hand whenever they `felt the urge' to do so. A random time later, the rotating spot stopped, and subjects indicated where the spot had been when they first felt the urge to move, the time of `conscious will'. The average time of this `W judgement', as Libet called it, was 206 ms before the onset of muscle activity (Figure I). Libet also measured the preparatory brain activity preceding voluntary action, or readiness potential (RP), in the same trials. RP onset preceded W judgement by several hundred milliseconds. This suggests that the initiation of action involves an unconscious neural process, which eventually produces the conscious experience of intention. Conscious intentions therefore occur as a result of brain activity, and do not cause brain activity

tulemusena. Osa AD vorme on päritavad, osa mitte. Kuna ka Downi sündroomi põdevatel indiviididel areneb välja AD, siis võivad AD sümptomid avalduda ka 21-s kromosoomis paikneva teatava geeni üledoosi tulemusena. Seos 21. kromosoomiga ilmneb ka selles, et 21-s kromosoomis paikneb amüloid-b-valku APP kodeeriv geen APP. AD põdevatel haigetel toimub APP akumuleerimine ajus. Samuti on näidatud, et mutatsioonid geenis APP põhjustavad dominantset AD vormi FAD (early-onset Familiar Alzheimer's Disease). See AD vorm esineb 3%-l kõigist AD juhtudest. Mutatsioonid preseniliini

To ensure that the displayed number is close to accurate, you need to calibrate with a glucometer at least twice a day. Don't want to become diabetic? Want to curb things like eating sweets, which can lead to adult-onset diabetes? Try using a glucometer for 24 hours. For each glucometer calibration, you stick a lancet (needle) into your nger and put a drop of blood on a test strip, which is read by a hand-held device (the glucometer) to display your number. citizenship education to promote democratic values or values and citizenship engagement`.80 The Welsh approach to the education for the citizenship in the PSE curriculum on the other hand, does not only situate children as future citizens, where they are encouraged to acquire skills and knowledge needed to become active citizens in local and global contexts, but also as mentioned, the Active Citizenship element of the PSE aims to engage learners as active citizens from the onset of their academic journey.81 Pupils are encouraged to lean that they are already valuable citizens, where they are `members of communities, from local through national to global` and that they can play ` a meaningful and active part in them`. 82 Along with the inclusive approach to children in governance since the devolution settlement and the establishment of the Welsh Government, there are a number of additional factors that
Nothing makes sense anymore, because all the meaning and purpose that life had for them was associated with accumulating, succeeding, building, protecting, and sense gratification. It was associated with the outward movement and identification with form, that is to say, ego. Most people cannot conceive of any meaning when their life, their world, is being demolished. And yet, potentially, there is even deeper meaning here than in the outward movement. It is precisely though the onset of old age, through loss or personal tragedy, that the spiritual dimension would traditionally come into people's lives. This is to say, their inner purpose would emerge only as their outer purpose collapsed and the shell of the ego would begin to crack open. Such events represent the beginning of the return movement toward the dissolution of form. In most ancient cultures, there must have been an intuitive understanding of this process, which is why old people were respected and revered

There was an im- pending foreign beef shortage and this news had, indeed, come to the company through its exclusive sources. _ _ Chapter 7 SCARCITY scarcity, some participants were first given a jar of ten cookies that was then re- placed by a jar of two cookies. Thus, before taking a bite, certain of the participants saw their abundant supply of cookies reduced to a scarce supply. Other participants, however, knew only scarcity of supply from the onset, as the number of cookies in their jars was left at two. With this procedure, the researchers were seeking to an- swer a question about types of scarcity: Do we value more those things that have become recently less available to us or those things that have always been scarce? In the cookie experiment, the answer was plain. The drop from abundance to scarcity produced a decidedly more positive reaction to the cookies than did con- stant scarcity.
