Ohakune
· On the eastern edge
of the town there is a
large carrot. This is
the world's largest
model carrot, and was
originally constructed
as a prop for a
television
advertisement. After
filming the carrot was
donated to Ohakune,
in recognition of the
area's reputation as
the source of a high
proportion of New
Zealand's carrots.
· Ohakune is a small
ski town and gateway
to the Tongariro
National Park.
Ohakune activities
include skiing,
snowboarding, fishing
and bushwalking.
Taihape
· Taihape is known as
the Gumboot Capital
of the World. Every
March is hold a
famous Gumboot Day
for locals and visitors
with Gumboot
throwing
competitions, good
music and great
stalls.
· Mokai Gravity Canyon
boasts three world-
class adventure
activities. Visitors can
ride extreme flying
fox, experience 80m
bungy or feel the thrill
of a 50m freefall on
our bridge swing.
