potatoes, sheep and vegetables. Sheep and cattle are raised in all the Australian states. Victoria is the leading producer of dairy products. Wheat is grown in all areas that have medium rainfall and moderate temperatures. Such fruits as apples and pears are grown in all the states. New South Wales and South Australia produce most of country's oranges. South Australia also produces grapes for use in making wine. Mining. Australia is rich in mineral resources. But roads and railways have to be constructed to the mining sites, so that the mining industry depends heavily on foreign capital. During the 1950's, geologists found huge deposits of coal and iron ore in Australia. Manganese, natural gas and petroleum were discovered in the 60's. Australia has got minerals like: copper, gold, silver, zinc, iron, nickel. Manufacturing. Australia imports more manufactured goods than it exports.

Environmental problems in Estonia

Good afternoon, i talk about environmental problems in Estonia. plakatile ei kirjuta :D Main environmental problems in estonia: · Oil shale mining and burning · Excessive tree felling · Air pollution · Eutrophication Oil shale mining and burning. Estonia environmental problems are mostly caused by oil shale mining and burning. About 30 000 Hectare ground is unusable. We have a large ash mountains thanks to burning of oil shale. To reduce pollution we need to decrease mining of oil shale and shale-based electricity producing. Air pollution the biggest air pollution is in large cities. It´s caused by big factories, a lot cars and deficient environment ordinance. To decrease air pollution we need to use less cars and more public transport. Eutrophication It means water enrichment of nutrient. In eutrophic water there is less oxygen and water quality low. There are some things to improve it: · To disable phosphate use in detergents

Bath is built on the site of England's only natural hot springs. It was the Romans who first tapped into this unique source and constructed a network of luxurious baths. But it's not only the hot baths that make Bath such an incredible place. It's the whole city that's a designated World Heritage Site, not just its Roman antiquities. Bath has some of the finest architectural and historic treasures in Europe. Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape Designated a World Heritage Site in 2006. The Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site areas are spread across 12 districts of Cornwall and West Devon, and there are many walks and visitor attractions to experience in each of them. By example Gwennap Pit, an open-air amphitheatre which may have originated from a hollow created by sunken mine workings; and King Edward Mine, the oldest complete mine site in Cornwall.

Canada - history and provinces.

Provinces Canada consists of five regions: the Pacific Region, the Prairie Provinces, Central Canada, the Atlantic Provinces and the North. The Pacific Region, which is the western part of Canada, consists of one province: British Columbia. It became a province in 1871. Its capital is Victoria and the biggest city is Vancouver. Name of British Columbia was chosen by Queen Elizabeth. The main industries are forestry, tourism (Vancouver Island, Stanley Park, skiing, golfing, hiking), mining (metal and coal mines) and fishing. The Prairie Provinces, that are located in the middle and south of Canada, consist of three provinces: Manitoba (capital Winnipeg), Alberta (capital Edmonton) and Saskatchewan (capital Regina). Agriculture is very important in that region. There are many farms where they grow wheat, barley and oats. The most important landmarks of the region are the Canadian Shield, Lake Winnipeg and the Rocky Mountains, but it mostly consists of plains.

arrived. Use of land Australia's area is 769 million hectares, with about one quarter mostly desert and not used commercially. The most extensive land use in Australia is livestock grazing in arid and semi-arid regions and covers 430 million hectares or 56 percent of Australia. In total, the area of agricultural land is 473 million hectares or nearly 62 percent of the continent. Although agriculture is still an important player in the Australian economy, mining, manufacturing, service and construction now contribute more to the economy than agriculture. Forestry tends to be confined to regions of Australia with higher rainfall and covers nearly 2 percent of the continent. Use of land Australia has many forests of importance due to significant features, despite being one of the driest continents. Australia has approximately 147 million hectares of native forest which represents some 19% of land use.

During the Second World War, the United States arranged for its airforce to use British airports in South America, including those in British Guiana. Guyana achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1966 and became a republic on 23 February 1970. The main economic activities in Guyana are agriculture, bauxite mining, gold mining, timber, shrimp fishing and minerals. The sugar industry, which accounts for 28% of all export earnings, is largely run by Guysuco, which employs more people than any other industry. The production of balatá (natural latex) was once big business in Guyana, but most of the trees in the area were destroyed by illicit bleeding methods that involved cutting down the trees rather than making incisions in them. Folk uses of balatá included the making of homegrown cricket

Supported by multilateral financial institutions, Jamaica has, since the early 1980s, sought to implement structural reforms aimed at fostering private sector activity and increasing the role of market forces in resource allocation. Since 1991, the Government has followed a programme of economic liberalization and stabilization by removing exchange controls,

Until 1830s the convicts were harshly punished for almost no reason, flogging being the most common penalty. During the 1850s, the settlement was boosted by gold rushes. Gold was first found at Bayhurst in 1851. Scarcity of labour (tööjõupuudus), the vastness of the bush, and new wealth based on farming, mining and trade all contributed to the development of uniquely Australian social institutions and sensibilities. The idea of unifying all the states first came to Earl Grey in 1847. It was only on January 1, 1901, that the Australian colonies federated to become the Commonwealth of Australia. Efficient initiatives to help protect the environment

That being said, the fight's not over yet. Fortunately, more people than ever are both aware of and active in the protection of the environment. To protect the environment, waste management and recycling are crucial. When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are made by extracting fresh, raw material from the Earth, through mining and forestry. Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change. I see this as a more sufficient way compared to saving electricity for example (but which, of course, is important too), for it’s generally easier to just recycle. It's really easy to carelessly waste energy––

Many started sheep farms. Before long Australia became the greatest wool-producing country in the world. In some cases cattle were raised on the grassland instead of sheep. But beef and butter are not as easy to ship as wool. The Gold Rush Gold was discovered in southeastern Australia in 1851. There was a great gold rush. Thousands of people went to the new land to find their fortunes. Gold was dug by hand, without any mining machinery. There was so much of it in the ground that some lucky gold- diggers found twenty to thirty kilograms of gold in an hour. By 1852 the country was gold-mad. Everybody was leaving for the goldfields, and all normal work stopped. In the countryside the cattle were left to starve and the crops were not harvested. In the towns all shops were shut, no letters were delivered, no newspapers appeared. Soon it became so difficult to get food that men had to fight for it

inland regions are more temperate. Some regions on the south coast, such as the Liguanea Plain, are relatively dry rain-shadow areas. Jamaica lies in the hurricane belt of the Atlantic Ocean, as a result, the island sometimes experiences significant storm damage. Economy Jamaica is a mixed economy with both state enterprises and private sector businesses. Major sectors of the Jamaican economy include agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, and financial and insurance services. Tourism and mining are the leading earners of foreign exchange. An estimated 1.3 million foreign toruists visit Jamaica every year. Jamaica's the number two exporter of Bauxite in the world, falling short only to the much larger Australia. The Jamaican economy is heavily dependent on services. The country continues to derive most of its foreign exchange from tourism, remittances, and bauxite/alumina.

Henry Moore

He was an English sculptor and artist. He was best known for his abstract bronze sculptures which are located around the world. He was also the most celebrated sculptor of his time, and the second part of his career, in particular, demonstrated that Modernist sculpture was surprisingly adaptable to official needs. In this sense, Moore was the contemporary equivalent of the great Neo Classical sculptors such as Canova and Thorwaldsen. Moore was born in Castleford as the son of a mining engineer. He became well-known through his large-scale abstract cast bronze and carved marble sculptures, and was instrumental in introducing a particular form of modernism to the United Kingdom. His ability in later life to fulfill large-scale commissions made him exceptionally wealthy. Yet he lived frugally and most of the money he earned went towards supporting the Henry Moore Foundation, which continues to support education and promotion of the arts.

Inexpensive nuclear power, in combination with fuel cell technology, could significantly reduce our dependency on foreign oil. Nuclear power plants have experienced an admirable safety record. About 20% of electricity generated in the U.S. comes from nuclear power, and in the last forty years of this production, not one single fatality has occurred as a result of the operation of a civilian nuclear power plant in the United States. In comparison, many people die in coal mining accidents every year and approximately ten thousand Americans die every year from pollution related to coal burning. The nuclear power industry generates approximately 2,000 tons of solid waste annually in the United States. In comparison, coal fuelled power plants produce 100,000,000 tons of ash and sludge annually, and this ash is laced with poisons such as mercury and nitric oxide. Even this 2,000 tons of nuclear waste is not a technical problem. Reprocessing of nuclear fuel, and

years ago, when the earth was partly covered with swampy forests. For millions of years, a layer of dead plants at the bottom of the swamps was covered by layers of water and dirt, trapping the energy of the dead plants. The heat and pressure from the top layers helped the plant remains turn into what we today call coal. Picture 15.1. How coal was formed 15.1 How we get coal 50 Mining the Coal Coal miners use giant machines to remove coal from the ground. They use two methods: surface or underground mining. Many U.S. coal beds are very near the ground's surface, and about two-thirds of coal production comes from surface mines. Modern mining methods allow us to easily reach most of our coal reserves. Due to growth in surface mining and improved mining technology, the amount of coal produced by one miner in one hour has more than tripled since 1978

Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student

I find it being quite impressive. There are some fields which Estonia can fill with supplies by itself. We are nearly energy independent country, supplying over 90% of our electricity need with locally mined oil shale. Estonia has also an alternative energy sources such as wood and peat. I could call myself earth friendly because I love walking around the forest and breading some fresh air but I do not like the knowing that somewhere else our own people are cutting down the trees and mining oil shale for eleritcity and warmth but I know that we need those two things to survive and it does not make any different if we cut the trees in Estonia or in Finland. There are some sacrifices people need to make to live on. We also have an excellent infrastructure in fact railway transport dominates the cargo sector, compromising 70% of all carried goods, domestic and international, approximately 7,5% of the country´s workforce is employed in transportation

Hübriidauto - Hybrid car

Why no t to purc has e a hybrid? · Hybrids are more expensive than traditional cars, to buy and to keep running. · Lifetime of a hybrid car is shorter. · Driving a hybrid costs more to the mile than a conventional mid ranged car. Cho o s e yo urs e lf... · Considering all these facts about hybrid cars it seems that it is unreasonable to even think about producing a hybrid car. Mostly because producing all these different parts starting from mining raw materials to producing a car to recycling it takes hugh quantities of energy: electricity, fuel, natural resources etc. · In the end hybrids have a shorter lifetime so they dont save as much as they spend energy. · On the other hand buying a hybrid seems reasonable if you live in a big city. You will make a difference by reducing emissions therefore smog levels will reduce and also the city will become less noisy.
