Structural loads

Kristiina Stõkova 105281, EAEI-33 Structural loads As everyone might know that great architecture is the successful marriage of art and technology and a structure is an artifact expressing one of the many aspects of human creativity, however it is an artifact that cannot be created without a deep respect for the laws of nature. And that is the main problem brought out by the author of the book ,,Why buildings stand up", Mario Salvadori. So why should an engineer consider different loads

the DC motor is used the frequency about 25-30 kHz (avoid noises/discomfort to human). Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of PWM systems: First advantage: This system can reach a very high efficiency without wasted heating loss. Second advantage: This always reaches the full supply voltage, then will produce full opening torque and can overcome easily the internal motor resistances, friction and loads. Third advantage: The PWM circuit is small, cheap, can be used to control a wide range of loads. It doesn’t need expensive variable electronic devices. Main disadvantage: PWM circuit is more complicated with high level of complexity. Second disadvantage: PWM causes vibration frequencies and interferes to other radio signals, to other electronic devices as well as to the human comfort.

Home description

My house was built in 1992 but it has been extensively modernised and extended since then. Our house consists a lot of different elements and components what I try to describe in my essay. The most important part of construction is foundation because it keeps buildings in one piece. My house has a strip foundation which is taken 1,5m below the ground to protect the structure against ground movement and damages. Due to the fact that foundation transfer the dead and imposed loads of the structure onto the ground it must be very solid and strong. Our foundation is made of pre cast concrete blocks which has a damp-proof course made of mastics on external side. There are sleeper wall after the concrete blocks to support the basement floor slabs. Next primary elements are the walls. My house has four crosswalls which have load bearing and enclosing role. There are also a lot of internal division walls with dividing role. The crosswalls are made of lightweight concrete blocks

Looks - how important

the rules, I follow them! My friends might still know who I really am, but making new friends is difficult or even impossible because of my own "freestyle". Taking care of look belongs to grown-up behavior! Luckily of unfortunately is look the base of communication, servicing and relationships. So, look is important! Who could imagine being served by a little stinky dude, who dresses into informal dirty clothes? I couldn´t. If look was not important, there would not be loads of etiquette rules. What if look would not be important? I do not even have to generate theories. I know people, who do not think about necessity of taking care of their look. I can see them every day. Somehow they do not aware their problem. How can anyone ever feel comfortable with dirty clothes, untidy skin and fetid body? This secret remains to be under disgusting cover. In conclusion I would say that look is really important! No matter what is being achieved, look has a solid role in result

In that institute she gets weird kind of treatments, for example administring loads of vitamiin C which makes her sick and puts her through terrible pains. The book describes in detail how Nicola takes care of her and how stressful that is. Nicola often can't sleep and spends thousands of dollars on her treatment. As nothing seems to be helping, Helena becomes suspicisious about that institute. She calls the Health Service Commision and finds out that there have been several complains about that before. Clay Bricks

Hollow bricks are lighter and easier to handle, and have different thermal properties than solid bricks. The cut bricks are hardened by drying for 20 to 40 hours at 50 to 150 °C before being fired. The heat for drying is often waste heat from the kiln. Characteristics of Brick (slide 12) Clay bricks are good insulators. As wall materials, clay bricks make walls heavy and dense and conduct heat slowly. This slow heat conduction reduces peak cooling loads in summer and peak heating loads in winter making your home energy-efficient all year round. · The characteristic thickness and density of a clay brick wall reduces noise transmission and deflects noise from the outdoors for a peaceful and quiet home. · Clay bricks do not warp, rust, split, peel or fade over time. They do not harbor termites and appear more beautiful as they grow older. While clay bricks may be expensive to acquire, their low maintenance and durability

When he learns of his lineage from his mother Sally, Percy teams up with half-man, half goat protector Grover, the battle skilled daughter of Athena, Annabeth and mentor Chiron to take on Medusa, Hades, Persephone, and the clashing forces of these timeless titans, all in the name of uncovering the real crook. Comprised of five main volumes and three supplemental companion books, Rick Riordan's popular young people's series should be an easy sell for any studio. It has loads of heroes and villains, monsters and sprites, wish fulfillment and epic feats of magic and courage. It taps into every high schooler's literary reference points while presenting the uninitiated with a wonderful set of seminal characters to champion. So why then does Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, come across as slapdash? Why does it feel rushed and strung together? We barely settle in to the story before our

In addition to get people under someone's control by telling them lies, it is in human nature to use specific attributes for their own benefit. In the book Napoleon took advantage of the fact that he was smarter and more astute than the other animals. He exploited their trust and their stupidity. Napoleon made other animals do loads of work, saying that pigs should not burden themselves with working, as they have to do all the thinking. Although animals were very tired and Napoleon had sold much of their food for money, they were still happy. They believed that as long as life develops and prospers, everything is good. They considered every word that Napoleon said to be true and Napoleon used it for his own good. It is also very common in today's

The lattice fell into disfavour in the USA, where a preference existed for statically determinate bridges of heavy timber, whose forces were easier to calculate. A more complex form of the beam is the truss, a rigid self- supporting system of triangles transferring both dead and live loads to the abutments or piers. A more complex form of the girder is the cantilever, where trussed and anchored ends of the girder support a central span. They were favoured for deep gorges or wide fast-flowing streams where false work, a temporary structure, usually of timber, erected to assist in the construc- tion of the permanent bridge, is impossible to build. Palm oil

In reality, the industry often has devastating impacts on the people in these areas. All too often, the government’s main interest in the country’s economy leads them to allow corporations to take the land owned by indigenous peoples for their own financial benefit. The palm oil industry is also linked to major human rights violations, including child labour in remote areas of Indonesia and Malaysia. Children are made to carry large loads of heavy fruit, weed fields and spend hours every day bent over collecting fruit from the plantation floor. Heat exhaustion and cuts and bruises from climbing thorny oil palms are commonplace in this damaging workspace. More often than not, children receive little or no pay for their efforts. With plantations systematically destroying the rainforest, land that the local people depend on, communities are continuously finding themselves with no choice but to become plantation workers

Powerpointi esitlus vanalinna objektidest

When you're here in Tallinn, if a mysterious old man approaches you and asks whether the city is finished yet, your answer had better be an emphatic "no." One of Tallinn's oldest legends tells of the Ülemiste Vanake, the old man from Lake Ülemiste, which sits on the outskirts of town. One dark night each autumn he rises from the lake, knocks on the city gates and asks, "Is the city finished yet, or is there still work being done?" The guards have strict orders to answer no, there's still loads of construction going on and it'll probably be years before it's ready. The disappointed old man then turns and leaves, grumbling all the way back to the lake. The belief was that if the answer were ever yes, the old man would call up the waters of the lake and wipe out the city in a great flood. Luckily, despite ups and downs in the local economy, there's always some construction going on in Tallinn so the city is safe from the old man for the time being.

Turbo ja kompressor(inglise keeles)

Most manufacturers account for this by specifying heavy-duty components when they design an engine intended for supercharged use. This makes the vehicle more expensive. Superchargers also cost more to maintain, and most manufacturers suggest high-octane premium- grade gas. Despite their disadvantages, superchargers are still the most cost-effective way to increase horsepower. Superchargers can result in power increases of 50 to 100 percent, making them great for racing, towing heavy loads or just adding excitement to the typical driving experience. The Roots supercharger is the oldest design. Philander and Francis Roots patented the design in 1860 as a machine that would help ventilate mine shafts. In 1900, Gottleib Daimler included a Roots supercharger in a car engine. As the meshing lobes spin, air trapped in the pockets between the lobes is carried between the fill side and the discharge side

Kuidas muudab mudelprojekteerimine teraskonstruktsioonide valmistamist ja ehitamist

Additionally, the speed of erection cannot be matched by any other construction material. There is no exact definition to what is a complex structure, however there are certain characteristics, that make the design, fabrication and construction processes of a building more difficult. For the Walt Disney Concert Hall (Figure 1) it was the undulating form that made this project extremely complex, for the UPS Worldport in Louisville, Kentucky it was the combination of heavy point loads in a highly seismic region and a building design that did not allow any lateral bracing. Unique structures, such as stadiums and industrial facilities require often steel in excess of 10,000 tons, exerting a tremendous workload on structural engineers and detailers. For example the Olympic stadium in Beijing (Figure 2), resembling a birds nest, used 40,000 tons of steel and required 20,000 drawings to detail the twisting and turning frames (Tuchman & Ding-Kemp, 2006). The Witch Trials in Salem

Perhaps some psychological condition caused the girl's symptoms. Perhaps the girls enjoyed the attention and power they received and perhaps the whole thing got out of hand. Maybe once the girls had started they felt they could not stop. There is also a theory that a fungus called ergot caused the hysteria. It grows on rye and caused hallucinations and bizarre and erratic behaviour. It has been blamed for the `dancing crazes' in Europe in the Middle Ages when loads of people started `dancing' uncontrollably. We will probably never know exactly what happened but the Salem witch trials passed into legend. They formed the basis of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, which was written in 1953 at the 7 McCarthy's `witch hunts'. After Salem nobody else was executed for witchcraft in America. However in 1706 a woman named Grace Sherwood from Virginia was convicted of witchcraft and sentenced to

Pakkimine

Book Analog Interfacing to Embedded Microprocessors

If the error term doesn’t change at all, then the slope and derivative are both 0. Note that any error, even a very large one, will have a derivative of 0 if the error doesn’t change. The original heater/load graph is shown in Figure 5.7, along with the resulting error term and the derivative term. If we make the gain smaller and then add the derivative to the Gain ¥ error term, our proportional control system will handle varying loads better. When the load is heating rapidly (light load), the derivative has a large negative value, so the output (G ¥ e + D ¥ derivative) is smaller. Smaller output = less heat, so the load heats up more slowly. If the load is heavy, the derivative will be less negative, less is subtracted, the output is larger, the heater gets hotter, and the load heats up faster. When the load temperature gets close to the setpoint, the gain term (G) becomes smaller

Games Programming with Java and Java 3D

An increasingly large part of the graphics rendering of a game is handled by hardware or software outside of Java. For example, Java 3D passes all of its rendering down to OpenGL or DirectX which may emulate hardware capabilities, such as bump mapping. Often the performance bottleneck in network games is the network. Dirty Java code passes control to libraries/functions which are quite independent of Java. Java uses a large amount of memory at runtime, for two main reasons: it loads the JVM and associated libraries into memory (about 5-10 MB), and Java objects are stored on the heap rather than the stack [Hutchinson 2000]. Memory requirement is a serious issue when porting Java to consoles. For instance, the PlayStation 2 only has 32MB of RAM. It is being addressed in the Java Game Profile, described below, which uses the Java Micro Edition, so called because its memory needs are more suited to hand-held devices. A longer term solution is to simply wait the memory

activities which happened at a stated time in the past. TASK 7 Read the following letter and correct the mistakes. Write S for spelling, P for punctuation, WO for word order, G for grammar or WW for wrong word. Dear Jenny , How are you ? I hope that you're very well. I've got so many to tell you that I don't know where to begin! Visiting Kenya was fantastic so far! The beaches are absolutely wonderfully. The sea is like glass and the white sand is as soft like powder. I've collected loads of shells already and yesterday I have ridden on an elephant. The local people also are very friendly and almost every night we had the opportunity to watch traditional dancing. You'd love africa. The most excited part of the holiday was hot-air baloon safari last week. It was amazing ! we floated quietly above all these teams of wild animals. The scenery absolutely was breathtaking. I've never seen nothing like it before. As soon as I will get back, I'll phone you and tell you all about it

INC STO Count JMP Loop ; Jump back to start of loop @12 Count: data ; Location to be used for counting This example introduces two other features of xComputer's assembly language: "@" and "data". The word "data" is used as a place-holder for a memory location that is going to be used by the program to contain a data value. When the assembler translates the program into machine language and loads it into memory, it replaces "data" with a zero. (Actually, you could just use a 0 in the program, but "data" is more descriptive of your intentions.) The line "@12" is not translated into machine language. It is a directive to the assembler telling the computer to store the next item in location 12. In this case, it means that the Count will be stored in location 12. Without the "@12", it would be stored in location 6, the next sequential location after the JMP Loop instruction

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

To discover the oil, a white Caucasian has to bring in his equipment to survey our land or shores. If there is oil, he estimates the amount of oil located in that area. We award him the contract of drilling for the oil. He brings his own men. Unlike in his own country, whatever environmental damage the drilling does is none of his concerns. All he wants is that oil. When the oil comes out from the ground, we also award him the contract to take the oil from us. He brings his tanker, loads the oil and brings it to his own country where he refines it. He pays less than $12 per barrel for the crude oil. He refines the crude into several different products, which are then sent back to us at more than $65 per barrel. In the 1998 year, Exxon generated revenues of $100 billion, Mobil $47 billion, Texaco, $32 billion and Chevron $27 billion. The revenues of these four companies almost outstripped the revenues of all the 50 Black Africa countries south of the Sahara combined.

Some of the things you will learn in THE CODEBREAKERS • How secret Japanese messages were decoded in Washington hours before Pearl Harbor. • How German codebreakers helped usher in the Russian Revolution. • How John F. Kennedy escaped capture in the Pacific because the Japanese failed to solve a simple cipher. • How codebreaking determined a presidential election, convicted an underworld syndicate head, won the battle of Midway, led to cruel Allied defeats in North Africa, and broke up a vast Nazi spy ring. • How one American became the world's most famous codebreaker, and another became the world's greatest. • How codes and codebreakers operate today within the secret agencies of the U.S. and Russia. • And incredibly much more. week with cold exposure. To achieve that with water immersion alone, looking at the same studies, he'd need to spend 174.2 hours per week in 50° water. It seems unlikely that Ray spent more than 24 hours per day in water. In fact, he didn't spend two hours per day swimming in, or consuming, 50° water. Ray Cronise's fat-loss spreadsheet. 12 weeks without cold vs. 6 weeks with cold. Something else needed to be happening. It could have been the other thermic loads he experimented with: cold walks, sleeping without sheets, etc. Digging deeper still, I now believe that the "something else" involves two players you'll hear much more about in the next few years: adiponectin and BAT. Adiponectin is a cool little hormone, secreted by fat cells, that can both increase the oxidation ("burning") of fatty acids in mitochondria and increase uptake of glucose by muscle tissue. I believe adiponectin is largely to thank for Ray's muscle gain

not comply with the lowest normative of indoor climate class III. All apartments exceeded the requirements of indoor climate class II. Even though the average relative humidity in wooden apartment buildings remains within the recommended indoor climate requirements (25-45% in the winter and 30-70% in the summer), a great variation of measurement results can be seen, which refers to a great variety in moisture production, ventilation and room temperature. To generalise the moisture loads in older apartment buildings, it can be argued that the differences between the different building types are not large. Upon renovation of apartment buildings, the calculated value of the amount of moisture excess (at 90 % critical level) during cold periods can be (te  +5 C) +6 g/m3 and during warm periods (te  +5 C) +2 g/m3. 16.7 Performance of ventilation and indoor air quality In the apartments studied, the indoor air quality (according to CO2) corresponds to indoor
