The tax burden, at some one-third of the GDP is moderate by international standards and will further be reduced as the liberalization progresses. These are mainly income and value-added taxes . Tax revenues come from a variety of sources. Goods that are imported into Lithuania face import duties that range from 10 to 100 percent (but average 15 percent on most goods). The highest tariffs are on tobacco, automobiles, jewelry, and gasoline. by attacking the Bolshevik government. The Bolsheviks were also opposed by the Mensheviks, who had controlled the Provisional Government, and who they had toppled from control of the Soviets in September, and by the Tsarists, who wanted to rescue Nicholas II and put him back on the throne. Lenin made peace with Germany ,the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, in which Russia had lost much of Russia's best agricultural and industrial land to Germany, including Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the former army officers were angry about this. Also, the Bolshevik government had taken land from the Tsar and the nobles and given it to the peasants, and the civil war was supported by those landlords who had lost their land. All these enemies of the Bolsheviks co-operated to try to bring down the Bolshevik government. A second cause of the Civil War was the Czech Legion. These were some Czech prisoners of war being taken across Russia who in 1918 mutinied, took control of the

The event was the "Baltic Way" human chain, held on 23 August 1989. · The "Baltic Way" human chain was a joint protest action by the popular fronts in each of the countries. · The protest grew partly out of the publication of the texts of the secret pact in 1988 which infuriated locals and Moscow alike, though for different reasons. The protests grew louder and the reprisals stronger.

The railroad serves as a conduit between the West, Russia, and other points to the East. After a long period of very high growth of GDP, the GDP of Estonia decreased by a little over 3% on a yearly basis in the 3rd quarter of 2008. In the 4th quarter of 2008 the negative growth was already -9,4%. Some international experts and journalists, who like to view the three Baltic States as a single economic identity, have failed to notice that Estonia has constantly performed better than Lithuania and Latvia on many fundamental indicators. The current account deficit and inflation is lower than in Latvia, the GDP higher than in Latvia and Lithuania, Estonia's public debt is a very low 3.8% of GDP and government reserves are close to 10% of GDP. The difference is exemplified by the fact that in December 2008 Estonia became one of the donor countries to the IMF lead rescue package for Latvia. The central bank uses a currency board system and has independent reserves,
considerable amount of raw material. Wooden construction details, wooden furniture and wooden houses are being exported. The main export destinations are Finland, Sweden, Germany, Norway and Great Britain. Estonian cellulose and paper industries have a long history, some factories have been in operation since the mid-19th century. Today the raw material comes from local forests as well as from Russia, Latvia and Lithuania. The most important branch among processing industries in Estonia is timber, paper and furniture industry. Second comes the food processing industry, mostly in the form of meat and milk producing, but the production of drinks, bread and confectioneries is also substantial. Estonians love locally produced food, considering it to be purer, of a higher quality and more tasty. Several producers hope to soon enter the EU market with their production.
Dear Kate, I think that travelling is the best way to broaden you mind and to explore the world. I haven't travelled a lot recently. The last place I visited was Finland, which was in August 2008. Most of the trips I've taken were when I was too young to remember them. For instance I went to a European trip with my family when I was four years old. We visited such countries as Sweden, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia and some more countries. I would really love to visit USA, England and Japan. Something is just magical about those places. I know that when you live somewhere, you don't really see what's special about it. I bet you know a lot more about London than I do but you probably don't find it as special and beautiful as I do. I love to observe the architecture and the people who live in the country I visit.. So far my favourite place is located in Estonia. I can't help but love Saaremaa

questions can be asked at the end. Power consumption is increasing exponentially in all civilised countries. Estonia's coal based power generation is becoming obsolete in the near future. The question arises : "Where will the future generations get the energy that they need?". First of all, in the current year, the power consumption reached the highest of all tomes in February. Most of the energy shortage was covered by energy brought from Lithuania. Energy was produced there from gas imported from Russia. That is not a reliable source of energy that can scale. In addition, Estonia does not have an adequate electricity grid network with neighboring countries. Therefore, there are no means to cover local demand with the current resources. Second of all, the problem with most renewables is that it does not scale well. Furthermore they do not have constant output sources of energy. They only supplement the existing systems

People didn't want to live like this anymore, it was based on fear and commands. The start of the Estonian public announcement of the reindependence is probably the Singing Revolution. To begin with, the Singing Revolution was a non-violent wish expressing and embarked on the Soviet Union to fall apart. The Singing Revolution is a commonly used name for events between 1987 and 1990 that led to the restoration of the independence of Estonia and also Latvia and Lithuania. Afterwards, there was a spontaneous mass night-singing demonstrations at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds in June 10-11 in 1988. Singing revolution is known as a revolution without blood. Its aim for Estonia was to separate from the Soviet Union. The Singing Revolution lasted over four years, with various protests and acts of defiance. Independence was declared on the late evening of August 20 in 1991.
no place to be with your friends. In our city luckily is no problem with criminality. Is there a difference in Estonia between the north and the south? No, our country is small and there aren’t big differences. Maybe the biggest difference is that south has many dialects and the north doesn’t understand our language. Also north has bigger salary and for that lives better. Have you visited any other countries? Yes, I have visited many countries. Finland, Latvia and Lithuania for many times, that’s more than three times. Also Poland for once. What is your ambition for the future? I really haven’t thinking about it because there is a much time to think about it more and more.

PRESENT SERVICES The rail transport system in Estonia consists of circa 1,200 kilometres of railway lines, of which 900 kilometres are currently in public use. The infrastructure of the railway network is mostly owned by the state and is regulated and surveyed by the Estonian Railway Inspectorate (Estonian: Raudteeinspektsioon). All public railways in Estonia are 1,520 mm , the same as in Russia, Belarus, Latvia, and Lithuania. The 1,520 km gauge used in Estonia is also compatible with Finland's 1,524 km gauge. Sometimes it is defined to be 1,524 km, for example when buying track maintenance or vehicles from Finland. Railways in Estonia today are used mostly for freight transport, but also for passenger traffic. Passenger transport is most frequent near Tallinn, centred on the main Balti jaam. first birthday of the Estonian Republic (February 24, 1919) General Laidoner could report to the Parliament that the enemy had successfully been driven out of Estonian territory. Though the Red Army was continuously supplemented it could not stop the Estonian armed forces. On counterattack the Estonian army took 6,000 prisoners of war and more than 40 cannons. The successful offensive also greatly helped Estonia's neighbors Latvia and Lithuania. On May 12, 1919 the Estonian army went on a decisive offensive and conquered Pskov on May 25. The ostentatious attack of the Red Army towards the West had failed and Soviet Russia was forced into defensive warfare. Estonia was not alone in the War of Independence. Great Britain was the first to answer Estonia's call for help and sent her naval squadron to Tallinn on December 12, 1918. This provided coastal defence until Estonia could build her own navy. The British fleet also

showed the beginnings of a common foreign and security policy. In 1999 The European Central Bank takes responsibility for monetary policy and launches euro to 11 countries, Greek joines in 2001. Same year in Nice the European Council agrees to change the system for enlargement of the EU, in 2001 the treaty is signed. In 2002 new Euro coins and notes are introduced to the eurozone members. In 2004 10 countries join the EU: Estonia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. In 2007 Bulgaria and Romania join the EU, Slovenia also joins the eurozone. In 2008 Cyprus and Malta also join the eurozone, following Slovakia in 2009 and Estonia in 2011. Today the union has a common single market consisting of a customs union, a common agricultural policy, a common trade policy, a commons fisheries policy and a commons foreign and security policy. EUs aim is to work together to improve the life of their citizens.
