The tone poem Viirastused (Ghosts) was an artistic
reflection of his visit to the famous Paris underground cemetery. His period of renewal
was introduced by the tone poem Öö hüüded (Night Calls, 1920), inspired by the
impressions of a stormy night he spent in an empty seaside summer cottage.2
