Apperances are deceitful!

People's eyes are attracted to beauty and it's quite natural. We look at flowers, landscapes, pieces of art, and so on. We understand why it is beautiful. People also think of a man's/woman's appearance as of a masterpiece of nature and enjoy it as much as a landscape in the Alps. But is the essence of this beauty the same? Landscapes are parts of nature, pieces of art are created by gifted people; these objects are not alive, don't possess an intellect, so it is much easier to define the essence of it's meaning and purpose. Humans have divine gift of speech, abstract thinking and freedom of action. We can't but agree that it's very difficult to define, what is hiding behind good looks. Our mind is used to assume that beauty contains only good things. We forget that beauty can also be dangerous. This

volume of the island was formed during the Miocene period, between 14 and 9 million years ago. This is called the "Old Cycle" and is estimated to have lasted some 200,000 years and have emitted about 1000 km3, mostly of fissural alkali basalt. This cycle continued with the emission oftrachytes, phonolites and peralkaline rocks. This period was followed by one of erosion, which lasted some 4 million years. This island is called a "Miniature Continent" due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found, with its long golden beaches and endless dunes of white sand, its green ravines and picturesque villages. A third of the island is under protection as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The number of annual visitors is 2.2 million (2,200,000). Most of the tourists visit the southern part of the island. The north tends to be cooler while the south is warmer and sunny. The east coast of the island is flat dotted with beaches while the western coast is rockier and mountainous.

Living in the countryside – a pleasant experience or a never-ending hardship?

For some, the lack of entertainment and smaller community is the biggest turn-off. Others are concerned about distances between two points, especially if an accident has happened and medical care is needed. What is worrying is also the fact that the unemployment rate is also much higher in the countryside than in the city. Living in the non-urban area has both advantages and disadvantages. I think that the biggest advantages are fresh air, scenic landscapes and comfort. As with anywhere, living in the country has its drawbacks. Transportation system, entertainment and and bigger field of work are some of the things that cities have a more convenient way of offering.

Mägi continued his art education in Saint Petersburg, where he was expelled due to his participation in revolutionary activities. Then he spent the summer on the islands of Åland in Finland and after that moved on to Paris. There Mägi practised drawing at free academies. After that, he lived in Norway, where he actually executed his first masterpieces a series of Norwegian landscapes. In 1912 Konrad Mägi returned to Estonia where Tartu became his main place of residence, and where he began to teach drawing. At the end of his life he was no longer able to carry on his work due to serious lung disease. He also destroyed one part of his invaluable works during hysteric attacks. The Advantages and Disadvantages of City and Country Living

Every person has their own taste and idea of the world that they live in. For example, I like living in city, but I have also a friend, who thinks that living in country is good for her health and mind, which is why she approves it. However, some people, who approves living in country still lives in city. Cure for going against their wishes is that some people decorates their apartment or house with paintings of peaceful and bright-colored landscapes as it brings not only a sense of artistic consciousness to their home, but also makes them feel cosy and allows them to at least temporarily forget about daily routine and pollution, crime (especially in bigger, crowded cities) and noise they have to endure when they go outside. I'd say that it is disadvantages for living in a city. On the other hand advantages of living a city life are easier communication, access to stores

Living in the countryside – a pleasant experience or a never-ending hardship?

There are differences in the environment, in job opportunities and how expencive or cheap is to live in the countryside. Those differences are making people to think about advantages and disadvantages of living in a countryside. There are several advantages, why to live in the countryside. First, environment in the countryside is very different. There is less pollution and there is no danger because there are no´t so many cars, motorbikes, and factories. You can admire the beautiful landscapes such as huge meadows, peaceful hills or forests. You can keep yourself in fit and you do not have to worry about your health, because there are pure air and water. Life in a countryside is much cheaper than in the city. You can grow your own vegetables and fruits. It is healthier and cheaper way to eat and live. People in a countryside are very friendly and kind. They are helpful for each others and they alert their neighbour's if there is something weird going on.

Estonia's nature

Many typical tundra species, like the willow grouse and the black-throated diver, which were characteristic exhibits of Estonian bog wildlife, have disappeared as nesting birds during the last decades. Small islets, however, can really be called bird paradise. Undisturbed by man and protected from most smaller predators by the sea, they are real nesting sanctuaries for a diversity of gulls, terns, ducks and waders. Due to the vast preserved natural landscapes, large raptorial birds, such as the golden eagle and eagle owl have made Estonia their home. Sixty-four species of mammals have been recorded in Estonia, three of them have been introduced: the racoon dog, the American mink and the muskrat. The European beaver, hunted to extinction by 1871, was reintroduced in the 1950s and a vital population of them (17 000) exists once again in Estonia. Another re-introduced species is the red deer (1500).

that illustrated by the Dutch scientist Reinerus Gemma-Frisius in 1544 for use in observing a solar eclipse. The image quality was improved with the addition of a convex lens into the aperture in the 16th century and the later addition of a mirror to reflect the image down onto a viewing surface. Giovanni Battista Della Porta in his 1558 book Magiae Naturalis recommended the use of this device as an aid for drawing for artists. First photographs taken with camera obscura were mostly landscapes, the reason for that was a long exposure time. And because landscapes do not move it was a perfect option. They were also used to take family photos or portraits, but it worked a little bit differently than it does nowadays. For example, you had to stay still for a long time for it not to turn out foggy. The camera was also used to capture historical events. Nowadays you can use a camera for everything; you don’t have to wait for it to focus or anything

Sights of Estonia

A wonderful 7,8 m high waterfall running down the limestone edge is the highest in 4 Estonia. Water has smoothed the limestone edge for centuries. As a result a 12-14 m deep and 300 m long valley has been created. The oldest known written record of a water mill in Estonia (from the early 13th century) dates from here. 7. Lahemaa National Park The Lahemaa National Park was created in 1971 to protect the characteristic North- Estonian landscapes and the national heritage of the area. This was the first national park in Estonia. It is located on Northern Estonia, 70 kilometers east from capital Tallinn. Its area covers 725 km², including 250.9 km² of sea. The name Lahemaa originates from the most thoroughly studied and visited part of the North-Estonian coast, where four large peninsulas (Juminda, Pärispea, Käsmu and Vergi) are separated from each other by four bays (Kolga, Hara, Eru and Käsmu.) Lahemaa translates roughly as

Tundra

Tundra Tundra is the world's youngest biome. It was formed 10 000 years ago. Located at latitudes 55° to 70° North. Almost all tundras are located in the Northern Hemisphere, encircling arctic desert and extending south to the coniferous forests of the taiga. The ecotone (ecological boundary region) between the tundra and the forest is known as the tree line or timberline. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning treeless plain. It is noted for its frost-moulded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool. The two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen is created by biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation. The most distinctive characteristic of tundra soil is its permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of ground. The average winter temperature is -28°C, but the average summer temperature is 3-16°C

19th century. A vital population of them now exists in Estonia once again. Another re- introduced species is the red deer. An attempt has been made in Estonia in recent years to disperse the population of wolves, encouraging their spread in areas where their colonies have disappeared, and restricting their numbers in other places where it is too high. About 350 bird species have been recorded in Estonia. More than 200 of them breed in Estonia. Due to the vast preserved natural landscapes, large raptorial birds, such as the golden eagle and eagle owl have made Estonia their home. It is the small islets, however, that can really be called bird paradise. Undisturbed by man and protected from most smaller predators by the sea, they are real nesting sanctuaries for a diversity of birds. The first inhabitants came to the area that now forms present-day Estonia some 11 000 years ago. Estonians were one of the last pagan people in Europe. Estonia was incorporated into

some 35 million. Because of that, Canada has one of the lowest population densities in the world. The capital of Canada is Ottawa the name of whose comes from the old Algonquin language, with the original word meaning `to trade'. Due to the country's huge size and position, it is very diverse. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic to the east, and the Arctic to the north. The landscapes differ greatly from rolling plains and mountains to the cold tundra in the northern part of the country. Geographically, the country's split into 5 major regions the Pacific, the Prairie Provinces, Central Canada, the Atlantic Provinces and the North. The Pacific Region is known for its mild coastal climate, its forests and its spectacular mountains. The three Prairie Provinces are known for their rolling plains and their extreme climate with long, cold winters and hot, dry summers

Inimtegevus mõjutab kõike siin maakeral, kuid üha suuremas ohus on praegu meie jaoks väga tavaliste taime- ja loomaliikide hävinemine. Erinevad liigid on muutunud haavatavaks, kuna nende elupaigaks sobivat maad on järjest vähem ja elupaigad on killustunud. Allesjäänud elupaikade vahelist liikumist pidurdavad maastiku läbitavuse vähenemine ja inimtekkelised takistused. Võimalus maastikul liikuda on liikide jaoks aga ellujäämiseks vajalik protsess, mida tuleb erinevatel inimmõjutustega maastikel uurida. Üheks selliseks ...

Augustine Lohy, and in 1920 he met Le Corbusier, who would remain a lifelong friend. The "mechanical" works Léger painted in the 1920s, in their formal clarity as well as in their subject matter--the mother and child, the female nude, figures in an ordered landscape --are typical of the postwar "return to order" in the arts, and link him to the tradition of French figurative painting represented by Poussin and Corot.[6] In his paysages animés (animated landscapes) of 1921, figures and animals exist harmoniously in landscapes made up of streamlined forms. The frontal compositions, firm contours, and smoothly blended colors of these paintings frequently recall the works of Henri Rousseau, an artist Léger greatly admired and whom he had met in 1909. They also share traits with the work of Le Corbusier and Amédée Ozenfant who together had founded Purism, a style intended as a rational, mathematically based corrective to the impulsiveness of cubism
