In 17 December 1903, the Wright Brothers invented the first airplane that could fly Click to edit Master text styles Second level Third level Fourth level Fifth level Why did they invent airplane? The actual inspiration came from Otto Lilienthal who was a German aeronautical engineer. The most evident defect in these hang gliders was that the hand glider could veer out of control at any time, as it had no proper mechanism to support it causing a safety concern. The Wright Brothers tried to invent such a machine that could fully mask all the defects of hang gliders. The first successful flying experience of the airplane lasted a mere 59 seconds.

Pros and Cons of the Capital Punishment

Pros and Cons of the Capital Punishment. The death penalty is a controversial issue in most countries, but it is completely abolished in our country. Arguments for and against it are based on moral, practical, religious and emotional groups. On the one hand, there are advocates of the death penalty, who argue that it deters crime, improves community by making them sure, that convicted criminals would never find their way out onto the streets to offend again and it is cheaper than keeping convicted criminals in high security prison for the rest of their natural lives. On the other hand, there are opponents of the death penalty claim that `capital punishment cheapens human's life and government on the same low moral level as criminals who have taken life.` personally, I strongly support this idea. I think, that the government must be smarter and invent some kind of punishment, that would satisfy the wishes of the families and friends...

John and Will later argued over the recipe for the cereals (Will wanted to add sugar to the flakes), so in 1906 Will started his own company, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company, which eventually became the Kellogg Company, triggering a decades-long feud. John then formed the Battle Creek Food Company to develop and market soy products. (John did not invent the concept of the dry breakfast cereal. That honor belongs to Dr. James Caleb Jackson who created the first dry breakfast cereal in 1863, which he called Granula. A patient of John's, Charles William Post, would eventually start his own dry cereal company selling a rival brand of corn flakes.)

The invention of telephone

Early telephones were nothing like the ones we have today. Telephone is the Greek word for "far sound." Before the invention of telephone, people used fax, postal letters and birds to communicate. Alexander Graham Bell was an eminent scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who intented the first telephone. His mother and his wife were both deaf and that was the main reason which caused his interest to hearing devices. Bell invented the telephone by accident when he was trying to invent a device that could send more than one telegram at the same time. His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which eventually culminated with the telephone in 1876. The first telephone didn't have a bell, so the caller had to tap the phone with a hammer to let the receiver know a call was being sent to them. It was Thomas Watson who invented the bell. Alexander Graham Bell founded The Bell Telephone Company in 1877 to build a nationwide telephone system

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons

that isn't violent might be a lot easier way to conquer in life. I think that all of you know that every tool, weapon, Everything that surrounds us, has started with an idea. That shouldn't be new for you. Some people might find it hard to believe, but even the most common things- like chairs, walls, even a pack of bread has been an idea once. Someone had probably felt that his or her legs got tired and sitting on floor might not be so comfortable, so one chose to invent a chair. Think of it- even floor, where people used to sit before chairs were invented is certainly someone's idea and invention. Isn't it strange to think like that? You are probably wondering that why are those ideas then so important? It's a good question and there is no way that it could have that one and only answer. I think that all of you have come across some contests, where good ideas are being searched. For example, several months ago I noticed a

All Marketers are liars

marketers should "give people what they want." The book is telling a story about why marketers must forsake any attempt to communicate nothing but the facts, and must focus on what people believe and then work to tell them stories that add their worldview. HIGHLIGHTS Before marketing, before shopping carts and long before informercials, people started telling themselves stories. Stories make it easier to understand the world. Stories are the only way to spread an idea. Marketers didn´t invent storytelling. They just perfected it. We tell ourselves stories, because we´re superstitious. Stories are shortcuts we use because we ´re too overwhelmed by data to discover all the details. We tell stories about products, services, friends, job seekers and sometimes even the weather. We tell ourselves stories that can´t possibly be true, but believing those allows us to function. Marketers are a special kind of liars. Marketers lie to consumers because consumers demand it

Leonardo da Vinci is also believed to be the inventor of scuba gear. Charles Martin Hall

Charles Martin Hall sündis 6. detsembril 1863 Thompsoni linnas, Ohio osariigis. Charles Martin Hall sündis reverend Heman Bassett Hall`i ja Sophronia H. Brooks Hall`i pojana. Lisaks oli Charles Martinil 1 vend ja 3 õde. Tänapäeval teame me Charles Martin Hall`i, kui leiutajat ja inseneri. ROMANTISM

Shall never pass the polar bar. The beggar's dog and widow's cat, Feed them and thou wilt grow fat. The gnat that sings his summer's song Poison gets from slander's tongue. The poison of the snake and newt Is the sweat of envy's foot. The poison of the honey bee Is the artist's jealousy. The prince's robes and beggar's rags Are toadstools on the miser's bags. A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the lies you can invent. It is right it should be so; Man was made for joy and woe; And when this we rightly know, Thro' the world we safely go. Joy and woe are woven fine, A clothing for the soul divine. Under every grief and pine Runs a joy with silken twine. The babe is more than swaddling bands; Every farmer understands. Every tear from every eye Becomes a babe in eternity; This is caught by females bright, And return'd to its own delight.

Faraday was also director of laboratory. During his life he discovered how to make an electrical motor, he built the first generator, which he called dynamo. He also was giving many popular lectures for the general public. He did great work. The result of his work made it possible for Morse to invent electromagnetic telegraph, for Bell to invent the telephone and for Edison to make electrical light. He requested during life that he be buried under a gravestone of the most ordinary kind. He was very smart man, who discovered many new things; despite of it he refused an offer of knighthood. Charles Darwin

But to most of us, "evolution" simply means that human beings are descended from apes, a slight misunderstanding, since both humans and modern apes are descendants of a mutual ancestor that is now extinct. It's not evolution but the theory of natural selection and the evidence he collected to prove to fellow scientists, peers, students, and most importantly the masses of public and the church that were at the heart of Darwin's contribution to biological science. Charles Darwin did not invent the concept of evolution. A number of prominent scientists and other thinkers during the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century (among them Charles Darwin's grandfather, Erasmus Darwin) had offered detailed theories of evolution (Clark, 1984, pg.24-25). Therefor the idea of evolution went very far back in Western history. At that time this concept was referred to as The Great Chain Of Life and was conceived in the middle ages, based on a mixture

Reasons why human beings are unique

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." So said the physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who helped to invent the atomic bomb. The two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 killed around 200,000 Japanese people. No other species has ever wielded such power, and no species could. The technology behind the atomic bomb only exists because of a cooperative hive mind: hundreds of scientists and engineers working together. The same unique intelligence and cooperation also underlies more positive advances, such as modern medicine. But is that all that defines us

Rainier reflected in Reflection lake. Famous Americans Leonardo was born in Vinci, near Florence, Italy, in 1452. Leonardo da Vinci was a skilled painter, sculptor, engineer, architect, and inventor. Two of his most famous paintings--The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa--are considered by many art historians to be priceless. Although Leonardo studied to be an artist, he also became interested in anatomy, optics, and botany, or the study of plants. He used what he learned from his studies to invent new things. Today, Leonardo is remembered as one of the most important figures of the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519. In his will, he left all his notebooks and many of his paintings to his friend and favorite student, Francesco Melzi. Albert Einstein was scientific genius who was born in Germany. He went to school in Germany, in Switzerland, and in Italy. Albert enjoyed learning science, especially Physics. When he was

ENGLISH TOPICS - palju teemasid inglise keele riigieksami kordamiseks

British Cuisine Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "Fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England

Intellektuaalomand

1. Intellektuaalomand  Sissejuhatus Inimene on suuteline oma intellekti ehk arukuse abil looma midagi uut. Selles on nähtud inimese jumalanäolisuse märki. Sellele vastandub ühiskonna liikmete välise vabaduse vastastikune piiramine õiguse (Evgenij Nikolaevich Trubeckoj määratlus) vahenditega, millega esiteks tagatakse võimalus kõigi ühisonnaliikmete kooseksisteerimiseks ja teiseks luuakse eeldused koostööks ühiste eesmärkide saavutamiseks (Wolfgang Friedmann’i...

Americans. Our authentic education will begin when we are able to build our own roads; our authentic education will start when we can produce the drugs and medical equipment that our people need; it will start when we can manufacture our own light bulbs, build our power plants, build the electrical grids and be able to provide electricity to our multitudes. After all, the Caucasian has already done everything for us. All we need is to copy it for our own benefit. We don’t have to invent a new mousetrap; it has already been invented. Our authentic education will start when we endeavour to produce the goods we consume; it will be an accomplishment to see our office equipment produced by African companies. It will be an accomplishment if we can tell the Japanese to go to hell, and we are able to produce our own radio, stereo system, television, satellite television, our own locomotives. It will be an accomplishment to see

Integration of Lean Con. and Building Information Modelling

When managers are trying to avoid the idleness of their crew, equipment, etc., without thinking of consequences, they realize that work with one or more prerequisites missing. This generally has an impact opposite to that expected; i.e., an 39 increase of process time and variability, as well as a decrease in worker motivation due to the fact that workers must invent work for themselves. Ballard9 (2002) also presented a general three flow model, based on the nature of the flows: Directives Prerequisite work Resources "Directives provide guidance according to which output is to be produced or assessed. Examples are assignments, design criteria, and specifications. Prerequisite work is the substrate on which work is done or to which work is added. Examples include materials, whether ,,raw or work-in-process,

Cialdini raamat

Another way that uncertainly develops is through lack of familiarity with a sit- uation. Under such circumstances, people are especially likely to follow the lead of others there. Consider how this simple insight allowed one man to become a mul- timillionaire. His name was Sylvan Goldman and, after acquiring several small gro- cery stores in 1934, he noticed that his customers stopped buying when their hand-held shopping baskets got too heavy. This inspired him to invent the shop- ping cart, which in its earliest form was a folding chair equipped with wheels and a pair of heavy metal baskets. The contraption was so unfamiliar-looking that, at first, none of Goldman's customers was willing use one-even after he built a more-than-adequate supply, placed several in a prominent place in the store, and erected signs describing their uses and benefits. Frustrated and about to give up, he tried one more idea to reduce his customers' uncertainty-one based on social

TheCodeBreakers

" A native of Brooklyn, Vernam was graduated from the Massachusetts college, where he had been president of the Wkeless Association and had been elected to Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary society, in 1914, after having spent a year working. He immediately joined A. T. & T. and, a year later, married a Brooklyn girl, Alline L. Eno. They had one child. Vernam was a clever young man— one of the stories about him has him stretched on his couch each evening wondering aloud, "What can I invent now?" He had the rare type of mind that can visualize an electrical circuit and put it down on paper without having to try it out with wires. He did so well in the telegraph section that its head, Ralzemond D. Parker, assigned him to a special secrecy project. And late though he may have been that winter morning, Vernam had brought a bright idea to work with him. Quiet and unassuming, though with a droll sense of humor, he probably put forth his suggestion with diffidence, but his co-workers on

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

I created it only for myself, for making something quite clear to me. 4 I am interested in simplicity because I recognise its strength. The more we are thrown into the power of chaos, the more we should hold on to order. This is only leading us just a little towards equilibrium and enables a review, distance, being aware of the values of things. The greater the order, the farther-reaching the wing-stroke. The more powerful is the artistic influence. There is no need to invent the most essential nourishment for our spirit and body, it exists already for quite a long time. Only the right access is needed to the source, where all this has been already told.5 LEPO SUMERA Who lets art near to his soul is vulnerable. The animated understanding as impelling force rises forth in art: I must do it! Culture means memory and tradition who has no knowledge of the previous, has nothing to do with culture.
