Inglisekeelne geograafia

http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/programmes/tv/jungle/vjungle.shtml Virtual Jungle worksheet I 1. Structure 1.1. Describe these layers Emergents The canopy trees are tall, but some species grow even taller until they stick right out above the canopy. These are called 'emergents' and can reach almost 90m in height. Up here they don't have to compete with other trees for light, but they are exposed to the high winds that lash the canopy during tropical storms. Emergents are the favourite nest sites of jungle eagles such as the harpy eagle of South America. Canopy Suspended 40m above the ground is the canopy - a belt of tree crowns supported by enormous rainforest tree trunks. This is the most productive and diverse habitat on Earth - perhaps 40% of the world's species spend their lives among its branches. The canopy's function is to photosynthesise. Canopy trees arr...

Towards zero inglisekeelne kokkuvõte

Story began in 19th November. The group round the fireplace was nearly all composed of lawyers. The most famous of them was an old mr. TREVES .Mr TREVES eas close to eighty. He was member of the famous lawyer company. He knows the historical background to various more than anyone else in England. People said Mr. Treves ought to write his memoirs. Mr. TREVES knew better. He knew that he knew too much. He's opinion was always respected. The group who sat around the fireplace talked about the murder what had happened in the Old Bailey in the morning. They talked themselves out, little by little and then their eyes turned to mr. Treves. Then mr. Treves said a few wise words. He likes a good detective story, but they all start with the wrong place. They start with the murder. But murder is and should be at the end of the story. It should begin at long before, perhaps even years before that. the whole story should culminate to towards zero. Toompea lossi inglisekeelne kirjeldus

This is Toompea Castle. The history of Toompea is actually the story of rulers and power in Estonia. The times and rulers changed and so did power and mentalities – each new ruler built and fortified this place according to his needs and taste. Today, visitors to Toompea can find here buildings mostly dating from three periods: the medieval order’s stronghold with its impressive western wall and towers, the most well-known of which is the tower of Tall Herman; the Russian-era government administration building with a facade representing classical styles and opening onto Castle Square; and the building of the Riigikogu, which originates from the time of the First Republic of Estonia and is hidden behind the walls of the castle Time has been generous to Toompea castle. The well-protected fortress has been almost impregnable. It has been spared big fires and, even more importantly, the palace has always had its masters. Being a centre of...

Carbon capture and storage

Humans are changeing the planet with their ordinary life. The principle cause of climate change is the increase in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere. The main cause of that is the burning of fossile fuels. This is leading to the global warming. People have discovered a way to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It is possible to seperate the CO2 from the other gases by adding liquid which is very good at absorbing CO2. Then it can be pumped to underground. Scientist came up with this idea because methane gas has been down there for thousands of years and it has not come up. So they expect that the CO2 won't be coming up either. To be sure of that, they are coing to make a test and drill two wells to take purified CO2, inject it into the ground and monitor the physical changes that CO2 undergoes. This technology is really new and it is unknown to people. It has not been proven yet, so people are scared and concerned...

Green Technologies - kokkuvõte

Green Technologies - innovation and climate change sustainagility Scientists can examine ice, but they cannot tell out anything about our future. Even if scientist has lived thousand years he won't be able to do it. The graph in video shows that the amount on carbon dioxide rises and then rises the temperature, but it is not so, it is exactly the opposite. One way to save energy is to build better buildings, because big headquarters are built to last only for 30-35 years. Building them up and pulling them down needs a lot of energy and about 30% of building energy is spent on it. It is thought that if in Tokyo 50% of all roofs are green it will save 1 million dollars a day of Tokyo businesses in cooling costs. Street light use 5% of energy, but it can be reduced to 2%. Usual TVs should be replaced with Plasma TV, because it saves energy more. By driving electic-car, it is possible to save energy a...

Nuclear Power: A Burden or a Blessing? Today, when the pollution of Earth is an important matter, people are trying to find economic solutions to produce power. This is where the necessity of nuclear power plants comes in question. Nuclear power plants are a cheap way to generate electricity but it also brings a lot of pollution that is much more radioactive and toxic than, for example, coal waste. But if we are looking at the facts, burning coal pollutes the Earth much more than nuclear power plants because more waste is generated. CO2, which is released from burning coal, is the main cause of global warming. Nuclear waste is collected and hidden in rocks or under ground, where it won't face the environment. However we shouldn't depend on nuclear energy as Uranium reserves are ending, especially when the world population is increasing and so is the demand for energy. There is Uranium in seawater, but gettin...

Inglisekeelne ülevaade Inglismaa kultuurist

Main Sights England is known for its many world-famous sightseeings and people all around the world come to see them. Some of them are even like symbols of England. The most famous ones are: Stonehenge is one of the greatest national icons of Britain. That prehistoric monument is located in the plain of Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire in the south-west of England. It is built of 150 enormous stones which are set in a purposive circular pattern. Stonehenge was probably built to mark the longest and shortest day of the year because it lies on the line of the midsummer sunrise and the midsummer sunset. That would have enabled people to keep a record of changing of seasons. Although it is still unclear who built it. Hadrian’s Wall is an ancient wall which was built in 2nd century by Hadrian, the emperor of Rome from AD 117 to 138, and it marked the northern border of the Roman Empire in Britain. The wall was 80 Roman miles (117 kilom...

War Horse inglisekeelne ülevaade

War Horse ,,War Horse", a war drama film directed by Steven Spielberg talked about a horse and it's adventures before and during World War I. The screenplay is an adaption of M. Murpurgo's children's novel by the same name. One of the main characters is a boy named Albert, who'se father bought him a horse and Albert got to train it. Albert and the horse became very close friends. But when the war approached, they had to sell the horse in order to pay the bills. The horse, named Joey, travelled long distances and met many people. Everyone who saw Joey, wanted it to themselves. Finally, when the war was nearing it's end, Albert and Joey were reunited. I liked the movie because it told a compelling story about friendship and it taught us never to give up hope. The chances for Albert to see Joey again were very thin but luckily Joey was able to come back to it's true owner. I also liked the acting many o...

Myers, Kitsuse 2000 Constracting the Future in Planning

22 Myers, Kitsuse 2000 Constracting the Future in Planning Planning’s broad relevance and its interdisciplinary inclusiveness have served as both a strength and a vulnerability. One emphasis that has been identified as central to the intellectual and professional identity or mission of planning is “foresight” (Markusen 1998), “a focus on the future and pathways of change over time” (Strategic Marketing Committee of ACSP 1997), or “persuasive storytelling about the future” A Surprising Neglect (hüljatud). “....planning has lost sight of the future....Planning voluntarily is sacrificing its role as visionary and idealist and is abandoning its responsibility to be a source of inspiration and ideas about what might be and what ought to be”. In planning practice, the recent surge of interest in visioning exercises has raised awareness of planners’ role in shaping the future, in some cases 3 bri...

Estonia traditional costumes In Estonia traditional costume denotes mainly the festive peasant dress of the 19th century, which in its time referred besides social status also to national background, as the ruling class were mainly German at the time. The former peasant costume of regional variation has become today a national symbol and has turned due to its altered function into a national dress. Estonian country folk produced their clothing mainly from home-spun woollen or linen fabric: shirts and married women's head-wear was mostly made from linen, while various outer garments, gloves, stockings and socks, were made from wool. The majority of the clothes remained undyed for a long time: linen garments were bleached white, while woollen outer garments were mainly sheep-brown or black. The wool for making skirts was dyed with herbal dyes. The bedstraw root was particularly widely used to produce red colouring...

Where I'm From - poem/luuletus

Where I'm From I'm not from a country of fortune and fame, I'm just from a group that thinks it's a game. I'm not from a place of emotional flow, But more from a place where nothing will show. I am from the seaside, I'm waiting for tide, The amount of their feelings that people will hide. I am from a country with a colorful past, "How long?" they said, "How long will it last?" Dark clouds sent by gods as they form in the sky, Like millions of people on the streets walking by. Now, imagine that people would become extinct, Their knowledge, their data all lost in a blink. But maybe our lives are not what they seem, Maybe, just maybe, it's all just a dream.

Proposal report

Subject: Proposal concerning the new shopping center Date: November 11, 2013 Introduction The purpose of this proposal is to give insight into the residents' committee's opinions regarding the new shopping center. Reasons it should be built The resident's committee has concluded that the new shopping center would be useful for people in our town as it would give them more choice in where to shop. Also, since there are no any decent sized shopping centers nor malls nearby, the new one would make people's lives easier since they would not have to drive as far out of the town as they are used to at the moment. Stores the shopping center should contain The shopping center should most importantly contain a big grocery store where people could buy their everyday food and drinks. Clothing stores would also be very useful as there are not many around this town. Lastly, we would propose electronics and free time stores and sporting goods store...

Letter of complaint

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to you to express my annoyance at the supreme quality of service that was promised but never delivered. I am talking about the intensive 4-wekk language course provided by you, International Language Centre. First things first the "highly qualified staff" had a terrible sense of time and always arrived late. Not to mention their insufficient language level, which I found quite displeasing. In addition to that, the provided free course materials were in reality just old and used textbooks and the desks were just way too small to work on, and the classes had no heating, which were quite cold in the mornings. Also you advertised small study groups, but the fact that there were over a dozen people in class determined that it was a lie. Now, according to these points that I brought out, I believe I am entitled to a full refund and I expect your full cooperation. Yours faithfully, Mart Mets

Satire in Lilliput

Satire in Lilliput In Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Swift uses satire to tell a tale of Lemuel Gulliver going on voyages in strange lands and meeting a variety of different characters. Jonathan Swift's was one of the greatest satirists of his and our time. In the first book of Gulliver's Travels millions of young schoolchildren have grown to love this famous story and never recognize the satire hidden in the story. In his first Book he uses satire to demonstrate English politics by using the citizens of Lilliput. Gulliver's first adventure takes place in Lilliput. Gulliver gets shipwrecked and finds himself tied down by a considerable number of little people called Lilliputians. The Lilliputians stood only six inches high. During this time Swift recognized that England was also small in stature but was dominant force and had a great influence in Europe. England, despite its small size, had the potential to defeat any n...

Friends and Friendship

Dear listeners, From young age, people are taught that friendship is very important and you have to look after your mates. But people understand it differently. Some make good friends with everyone, but others find one true friend to be nice with. Is this one friend then better than thousands? My best friends were left in kindergarten. The four of us were invincible. We did everything together and we were enough for each other we didn't let other children to our games. In games as well as in learning, I had 3 great supporters and everything was easy and fun with them. Everyone grows up, so did I and my buddies. Unfortunately we grew apart, because it is hard to meet between all the schoolwork and hobbies. Few appointments at primary school are completely gone now and all of us have found new friends. I didn't find really great friends from my class until about third grade. I went dancing with two classmates and I was conn...

For and against studying abroad

For and against studying abroad At first it will definitely seem exciting, scary and overwhelming to study and live in another country and far away from all your friends and family back home. This experience will expanded your horizons and make you more independent. Obviously there are both pros and cons to studying abroad, and here is what I think they might be. I believe that there are many advantages that the time abroad will provide you. For instance you will make a lot of friends from all over the world. It is always nice to have a place to stay when you accidentally end up in Japan or Australia for a few days. Being an exchange student is also a fabulous chance for travelling. Getting to know a new country so well is definitely not possible during a holiday or a short visit. Besides living in a new culture for a long period of time will teach you more about the culture than reading any boo...
