Informal letter

Õie 67A-4 Pärnu, Estonia 80032 April 14, 2008 Dear Jaanika, It's been a while since we last wrote, so I thought I'd drop you a line to bring you up to date with what's been happening here. Actually, right now I'm laying under the palm tree and having a nice vacation at Bahama Island. I've been here for a week already and the time is just flowing by. I'm planning to relax and enjoy my vacation for another 2 weeks. Then I have to fly back home and start to work hard. But as a matter of fact I'm already thinking about my summer plans. I'm kind a sure that it wont be that relaxing at all, because I've thought about some money collecting. So my plans are that the first 2 months I'll mostly spend working. And for the last mont...

Informal letters

Dear Tom, I talked to your sister and found out, that you are going to take an exam next week. I wanted to give you some advice. Last year I took my exams so I believe I could help you. First off I strongly recommend you to have a good night sleep the night before your exam. Study everything you might need but try not to overdo the studying. After all the exam is to test whether you have learned anything during the years you have spent in school. I believe you'll do just fine with the exams. Best wishes, Betti. Dear Kate, I think that travelling is the best way to broaden you mind and to explore the world. I haven't travelled a lot recently. The last place I visited was Finland, which was in August 2008. Most of the trips I've taken were when I was too youn...

I am häving the time of my life, dancing and singing along to the music at the latest WOMAD festival with thousands of ohter fans from all over the country. The World of Music, Arts and Dance, or WOMAD, tries to give us a taste of the musical styles that are enjoyed all over the world, and it has become so successful that WOMAD festivals are now heldi n several countries. The fun is not only experienced by Athose in front of the stage. Although peole spirits are high, the weather is a major probleem for this British festival. Informal Letter Inglise keel

Dear Liisa Lovely to hear from you after so long! It’s a great tragedy that the COVID-19 is out and about but we just have to make the most of it and protect ourselves and our loved ones. After being in isolation for only two days a realization hit me. I realized that everything that I took for granted was going to change. As many other, I didn’t thought that Estonia is going to suffer greatly from the virus outbreak and everything is going to proceed as usual. Life goes on. But it doesn’t. I became aware of the problem after my sister and I had a talk about immunity. I myself have lived many years with runny nose and I don’t worry too much about it but I really never thought about my little sister and mom. They both have had some serious issues with their health and I don’t want my actions to harm their wellbeing in any way. Because of that our family has stayed isolated for 10 days now. The first few days were like a cakewalk and...

Informal letter to a friend describing a house for rent

Dear ..............., How are you? I hope you are well. I'm writing to let you know that I think I've found the perfect house for you. It's in a really nice location. Maardu, Harjumaa is a beautiful tidy town. It features a beautiful downtown, where you can easily walk around, shop, eat and dine. But the best thing about it is that the town is less than a twenty kilometres from the capital and the rent for the house is only £169 a week. The house is really adorable outside. It's made of light grey bricks and has a restored wood frame windows. Also, it's got small balcony and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. Plus, modern security system. Inside, the house is nice and comfortable. It has two floors. On the ground floor there is a charming living room and modern fitted kitchen with all the equipment you would expect. As well as a dining room and mediumsize WC. Upstairs there is one big lovely bedroom and one smaller guests bedroom...

There are various types of formal and informal letters . · It is important to think about the person who you are writing to before you begin writing a letter. If the wrong style is used, the letter will look impolite, silly or odd. Word processing versus handwriring hinne 5

Another problem is when you are writing on paper and use improper grammar and misspell words there is nothing there to remind you of your mistakes but yourself. Whenever I write by hand I have to think a lot harder about how to spell certain words. I notice that my friends also do the same thing and we have to ask each other how words are spelt or if sentences make sense. We have become sort of dependent on word processing. Because of technology my writing has gotten more informal and it's easier to write in a personal or informal tone. Because I use technology so much to communicate to friends and family it is sometimes difficult to transition to scholarly and formal writing styles. This class has helped me practice writing in different tones. I have really learned to write to a specific audience instead of just writing to anyone. We have practiced scholarly writing and writing longer more serious papers than those I had written in high school.

Kilt

Kilt The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Although the kilt is most often worn on formal occasions and at Highland games and sports events, it has also been adapted as an item of fashionable informal male clothing in recent years, returning to its roots as an everyday garment. Typically, a portion of the belted plaid hangs down to about the knees with the rest of the material being wrapped up around one's upper body in a variety of ways and pinned or otherwise secured to keep it in place. The first clear reference to the kilt occurs in the year 1594.In that year, a group of Highlanders from the Western Isles went to Ireland to fight under Red Hugh O`Donnell.

Modal verbs

Mustn’t means be forbidden. Don’t have to expresses the absence of obligation. You mustn’t steal other people’s things. It’s wrong. You mustn’t drive if you’ve been drinking. You could kill someone! In England you don’t have to take your shoes off when you enter somebody’s home. When you go into a shop, you don’t have to buy anything. You can just look. • Have got to is also common in British English but it is more informal than have to: I’ve got to go now. See you! Don’t go to bed late. We’ve got to get up early tomorrow. Go and tidy your room. – Have I got to? – Yes, you have! • Should and ought to express mild obligation or advice. They both express what, in the speaker’s opinion, is the right or best thing to do: You’re always asking me for money. I think you should spend less. You ought to be more careful with your money.

Looks - how important

If I dressed in public as I dress at home, I would definitely be stared! I am not the one, who makes the rules, I follow them! My friends might still know who I really am, but making new friends is difficult or even impossible because of my own "freestyle". Taking care of look belongs to grown-up behavior! Luckily of unfortunately is look the base of communication, servicing and relationships. So, look is important! Who could imagine being served by a little stinky dude, who dresses into informal dirty clothes? I couldn´t. If look was not important, there would not be loads of etiquette rules. What if look would not be important? I do not even have to generate theories. I know people, who do not think about necessity of taking care of their look. I can see them every day. Somehow they do not aware their problem. How can anyone ever feel comfortable with dirty clothes, untidy skin and fetid body? This secret remains to be under disgusting cover.

He was born on April 15th 1452 in a town called Vinci, that is also where he got his name from. Very little is known about his early life, but he spent his first five years with his mother and then moved together with his father. Leonardo had 12 half-siblings who were all much younger than him. Leonardo received an informal education in Latin, geometry and mathematics. At the age of 14 he joined a workshop held by an artist known as Verrocchio. There he painted his painting `'Baptism of Christ'', which first gained notoriety. Leonardo Da Vinci died in 1519 at the age of 67. Leonardo was and is primarily known as a painter. London - climate, park and gardens

Closer to central London are the smaller Royal Parks of Green Park and St. James's Park. Hyde Park in particular is popular for sports and sometimes hosts open-air concerts.A number of large parks lie outside the city centre, including the remaining Royal Parks of Greenwich Park to the south-east and Bushy Park and Richmond Park to the south-west, as well as Victoria Park, East London to the east. Primrose Hill to the north of Regent's Park is a popular spot to view the city skyline. Some more informal, semi-natural open spaces also exist, including the 791-acre (3.2 km2) Hampstead Heath of North London. This incorporates Kenwood House, the former stately home and a popular location in the summer months where classical musical concerts are held by the lake, attracting thousands of people every weekend to enjoy the music, scenery and fireworks. Buses London's bus network is one of the largest in the world, running 24 hours a day, with 8,000

Manners in Estonia

Remain standing until invited to sit down. Table manners are Continental, i.e. the fork is held in the left hand and the knife in the right while eating. Do not begin eating until the hostess starts or someone says "head isu" ("good appetite"). Avoid resting your elbows of the table. Compliment the hostess on the meal. Try to finish everything on your plate. Business Meeting & Greeting Estonians are quite formal and may not come across as quote cold or even friendly to people from more informal cultures. This should not be interpreted so. Once the relationship warms up the communication style becomes a lot less stiff. Shake hands with everyone at the meeting. Remember it is rude to greet someone while seated. Handshakes should be firm and confident. Maintain steady eye contact while shaking hands. Try and wait for a woman to extend her hand. Address businesspeople by their professional title and their surname.

English Parliament and Elections

confrontation between the government and the opposition. There is no place for somebody who isn't neither in the opposition nor in the government side. Usually peeps like this sit in the opposition furthest from the Speaker. || There are no tables for the MPs. They also have no obvious place to address each other from. They can walk in and out during the debates. There are no names on the benches so the MPs sit down just wherever they find the room. The Atmosphere of Parliament Fairly informal atmosphere. People don't have their own exact place/territory so they feel like they must co-operate. Although they have divided themselves into frontbenchers (leading members of the government and opposition) and the backbenchers (people who don't own a meaningful post). MPs have nowhere to address each other from, they have nowhere to put their notes so that means that they speak in a very conversational tone and not for a very long time

Sandrigham house

spectacular ironwork gates designed by Thomas Jekyll and presented as a wedding gift by the people of Norwich and Norfolk. It became obvious that the existing house was not suitable for large social gatherings and a growing family, so the Prince of Wales rebuilt it completely. As home to the heir to the throne and his wife, Sandringham was venue to many glittering occasions. Social life ranged from visits by Heads of State (1881, 1899 and 1902 by Kaiser Wilhelm) to informal retreats by the Royal Family. Three times a year there was a ball - for the gentry, for the farmer and for the servants. One of the main activities at Sandringham was shooting. The Prince of Wales liked to be outdoors as much as possible and he devised the idea of ST - Sandringham Time. The idea was to make the most of the winter daylight hours for his passion for shooting and so the clocks all over the Sandringham Estate were advanced by half an hour

Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

fact that such a depiction of Estuary English would indicate that there are rigid boundaries between Cockney and EE, and EE and RP. [Cockney][EE][RP] [I <---Cockney---> F] [I <---RP---> F] [I <---EE---> F] The difficulties in deciding whether a certain passage of speech can be recognised as Estuary English lies in the "fuzziness of the boundaries between EE and Cockney, and EE and RP" (Maidment 1994), which is the consequence of an overlap between the formal style of Cockney and informal style of EE, and the formal style of EE and the informal style of RP. Several studies have been designed to determine whether such boundary markers exist and whether they can function separately or collectively only. One of such attempts was made by Haenni (1999: 14 38), who examined selected accent features of EE to see if they can fix a rigid boundary between Cockney, EE and RP. His survey reveals that clear-cut markers of Estuary English do not exist (1999: 38).

Clay Bricks

Bricks are typically produced in common or standard sizes in bulk quantities. They have been regarded as one of the longest lasting and strongest building materials used throughout history. In the general sense, a "brick" is a standard-sized weight-bearing building unit. Bricks are laid in horizontal courses, sometimes dry and sometimes with mortar. When the term is used in this sense, the brick might be made from clay, lime-and-sand, concrete, or shaped stone. In a less clinical and more informal sense, bricks are made from dried earth, usually from clay- bearing subsoil. In some cases, such as adobe, the brick is merely dried. More commonly it is fired in a kiln of some sort to form a true ceramic. (slide 8) On this slide you can see 3 different types of bricks compared with each other in thechnical numbers. As you can see Clay brick has somewhat better characteristics, but is also a little bit more expencive. The making of bricks (slide 9)
