therefore, unhealthy in the long run if consumed on a regular basis. Fast food is loaded with calories from refined sugar and fats .It is also very high in sodium, coming from common salt and other additives. On top of all this, fast food is deficient in dietary fiber and essential micro-nutrients like vitamins and minerals. To make matters worse, heaps of fast food are normally guzzled down with gallons of sugar- rich colas which many fast-food restaurants serve free with food as an incentive. To make a long story short, all this results in piling up of unused empty calories in the body, which get stored as body fat till one day you look in the mirror and realize that your great figure has been replaced by this creature in the mirror.

Marxism

2. Against exploitation of workers which basically means that workers labour is resold at a higher price than he gets paid for it. 3. Classless society which means that everyone is equal in a basic sense as a member of the tribe and the different functional assignments of the primitive mode of production, howsoever rigid and stratified they might be, did not and could not, simply because of the numbers, produce a class society as such.  Why to be against Marxism? 1. Marxism removes incentive, with the slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” which implies that you should only get what you need, regardless of productivity or skill, which discourages people from working hard, forces production to fall, which reduces wealth, and ultimately societal wellbeing. 2. Equality of outcome would stop productive people from being able to produce as much as they can and force those less gifted to work to the bone. 3

Report: The Free Rider Problem

5 Free riders take advantage of public goods without having to contribute to them. For example, if society decides to encourage people to use less of a product and many people actually respond to this call, the product's market will improve. Although the free rider may continue using this product, he will benefit. This creates a tremendous problem for activists who attempt to start a movement to improve the environment. Many people, seeing no incentive to join personally in the movement, just continue behaving the way they did before and yet reap the benefits of other people's work. When everyone acts as a free rider, no benefit at all will come from the proposed action. Because it is in everyone's personal interest not to participate in the collective movement, the movement is highly vulnerable to failure. Though society as a whole may try to conserve a resource, the free rider can easily take advantage of this by not participating in

The main difference of the ENP is its exclusion of membership as the ultimate incentive. So, the "most appetising carrots" (Tocci 2005: 25) are trade liberalisation and preparation of the partner countries for the internal market of the EU. Initially the ENP was based on the provision of the four freedoms, however, the disagreement among the member states over the free movement of persons, limited the ENP to visa facilitation agreements, and shifted its focus to economic incentives avoiding mentioning of the political ones. In pure competition, the firms' outputs are homogeneous. · If the firm has is no opportunity to differentiate their product they have no incentive to advertise and to try to influence the demand for their product. · If a product can be differentiated by altering the characteristics of the good or simply by convincing the consumers that the product is different, the firm achieves market power. Market power is the ability to have some control over the price of the good offered for sale. Advertising can be used to differentiate a product or increase the demand for a product.

Task: Brainstorm the new technological innovations An OPTIMISTIC approach (Alternative theory)  Ester Boserup (1965) suggested that an increase in population would stimulate technologists to increase food production.  It followed that a rise in population will increase demand for food and therefore act as an incentive to modify technology to produce more food. In other words, “Necessity is the mother of invention” .  As population increases agriculture moves into higher stages of intensity with new methods. An OPTIMISTIC approach  Followers of Boserup argue that food production is much more optimistic than that of a Malthusian, as she claims that food supplies will stay ahead of population growth.  Innovations such as the ‘Green

The Count of Monte Cristo

When it is put in context, it seems like the Count just uses people for his own gains and doesn't really care about them. The Count is almost done carrying out his plans when he starts to feel like he's really gone too far. When the Count realizes that it's his fault that Villefort's wife and son is dead, he really feels guilty. At this point the Count reveals to Villefort that he is Dantes. Villefort goes mad right after Dantes reveals himself; which is all the more incentive for him to feel bad. "Monte Cristo paled at the horrible sight. He realized that he had gone beyond the limits of rightful vengeance and could no longer say, "God is for me and with me."" (p. 403) We see here how bad the Count really does feel and that we're all human in the end and you can't hurt people forever until you start to feel bad. The Count of Monte Cristo is a great story that helps you to realize how far the reaches of vengeance can really go

Pure Competition

Entry eliminates economic profits: Economic profit will lure new firms into the industry. Some entrants will be newly created firms; others will shift from less prosperous industries. Since more firms are in the same industry, the market supply of the product will increase, pushing the product price lower. This will lead to the lower economic profits, and as a result, the previous incentive for more firms to enter the industry has disappeared. Exit eliminates losses: Economic losses will cause firms to leave the industry (the demand curve already shifted to downwards and the price has decreased). Exit of firms causes the supply curve to shift to the left, thus restoring the original equilibrium price. Long-run Supply for a Constant Cost Industry Long run supply curve is perfectly elastic

Development, deployment and economics The 1973 oil embargo and 1979 energy crisis caused a reorganization of energy policies around the world and brought renewed attention to developing solar technologies. Deployment strategies focused on incentive programs such as the Federal Photovoltaic Utilization Program in the US and the Sunshine Program in Japan. Other efforts included the formation of research facilities in the US (SERI, now NREL), Japan (NEDO), and Germany (Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE). Strategies of creating a dominant party – the case of UR

University of Tartu Faculty of Social Sciences and Education Institute of Government and Politics Marie Allikmaa The strategies of creating a dominant party the case of United Russia Tartu 2011 After the collapse of USSR in 1991, many observers expected Russia to develop into a competitive party system. Yet, the reality quickly challenged this view. The developments of party politics in post-Soviet Russia have accurately been described in terms of a pendulum effect, as in the 2000s, Russia's party system did finally begin to take for, but with a remarkable twist. Following the break of one-party rule, Russia's party system became strongly fragmented - during the 1995 parliamentary elections, 43 parties competed for popular votes (McFault 1996: 90). In the 21st century, the pendulum has moved back, ...

Other initiatives tend to be concerned with integration between health and other services. Recent examples in the NHS in England have included merging regulators to facilitate joint inspection of health and social care providers; extending incentive payments to providers to encourage and reward joint working; and developing integrated mental health services across health and social care (see case study on page 5). To date, discussions about improving service integration have typically focused on breaking down barriers across service providers. The bodyshop

The RSPO is currently focusing on the development of an internationally accepted set of criteria and certification for sustainable palm oil. When the criteria are launched in November 2005, we will support palm oil plantations and distributors who are in compliance, by gradually switching our supply of palm oil to a mainstream, but sustainable source, certified under the RSPO criteria. We believe that creating a market for mainstream sustainable palm oil will provide a real incentive for the industry to move quickly. Inspired by nature The Body Shop sells products inspired by nature. Fruits, vegetable extracts and natural oils feature prominently in our products and in the product names. Why then, do we also add synthetic chemicals - aren't natural ingredients always the best option? The inspiration for most of our products comes from traditional beauty practices used around the world, for example using cocoa butter to moisturise or cucumber as an astringent

FEAR OF LOSS AND THE BENEFITS OF COMPARISON Would you work harder to earn $100 or to avoid losing $100? If research from the Center for Experimental Social Science at New York University is any indication, fear of loss is the winner. Their three-group experiment looked like this: the rst group received $15 and was told the $15 would be taken back if they lost a subsequent auction; the second group was told they'd be given $15 if they won the auction; and the third group was a control with no incentive. The rst group routinely overbid the most. Participating economist Eric Schotter explained the results: Participating economist Eric Schotter explained the results: Economists typically attribute excessive bidding to risk aversion, or the joy of winning. What we found is that the actual cause of overbidding is a fear of losing, a completely new theory from past investigations. This is not a depressing realization. It's a useful one. personnel policies. Except in emergencies, the cryptanalysts worked one week and took off one week— apparently to keep them from cracking under the intense mental strain of the work. Though the pay was not high, substantial bonuses were given for solutions. For example, bonuses totalling 3,730 florins were disbursed between March 1, 1780, and March 31, 1781, for the solution of 15 important keys. But, after a moment of thought, I was sure. "I think I'll take my chances." He exhaled angrily, and looked away. "Let's talk about something else," I suggested. "What do you want to talk about?" he asked. He was still annoyed. I glanced around us, making sure we were well out of anyone's hearing. As I cast my eyes around the room, I caught the eyes of his sister, Alice, staring at me. The others were looking at Edward. I looked away swiftly, back to him, and I
