footing for explanation of illusions in which some of them he has explained successfully. Gregory argues that when we experience a visual illusion what we perceive may not be physically present in the retinal image. Illusions can essentially be explained when our perceptual assumption is not confirmed by the data, so our interpretation of the stimulus is inappropriate. Gregory (1970), (cited in Gross, 2005, pp 255) demonstrates good evidence for this view with a rotating hollow mask, where the mask can be seen hollow or normal. The assumption being selected is strongly influenced by past experience of faces. According to Gibson's view of optic flow where the perception is seen as a result from interaction with the environment and also within movement it is possible to perceive that the mask is hollow. Therefore a weakness of Gregory's´ theory is that it lacks ecological validity because it does not focus on everyday perception, but rare

The separation of Aboriginal children started in Victoria and New South Wales as early as 1885 and, in some states, was not stopped until the 1970s. About 85% of Aboriginal families have been affected in some way, either by having children taken away from them or by being forced to make major decisions to avoid having their children taken. Mothers of some Aboriginal children would cover their fair-skinned children with black clay; hide them in trees, behind sand dunes, or in hollow logs. Families were moving constantly, to keep one step ahead of "welfare." Some families said that they were Italian, Maori, or Greek, leaving their true identity to themselves to escape the strict control of the white "protector." The removal of these children from their families affected more than just a few people. In New South Wales, the government estimated that, in New South Wales alone, there were at

church door The Irish hollowed out turnips, placed a light inside to keep away the bad and stingy Jack. As the legend says, Jack was a man who tricked the devil and after Jack had died he was allowed neither in heaven nor in hell. With a lantern in his hand he began to search for a resting place on Earth. This was the original JackoLantern. Since Halloween came to America from Ireland (Scotland and Wales) people used pumpkins because they were bigger and easier to hollow out than turnips. During the centuries the cultures have added their own elements to the way Halloween is celebrated. Druids in Britain and Ireland would light bonfires, dance around them and offer sacrifices of animal and crops. The fires were also intended to give warmth to the households and to keep free from evil spirits. Through the ages these practices changed. Kids love dressing up for halloween. Yet he lived frugally and most of the money he earned went towards supporting the Henry Moore Foundation, which continues to support education and promotion of the arts. His forms are usually abstractions of the human figure, typically depicting mother-and-child or lying figures. Reclining line was even considered as his signature. Moore's works are usually suggestive of the female body, apart from a phase in the 1950s when he sculpted family groups. His forms are generally pierced or contain hollow spaces. Many translators liken the wavy form of his lying figures to the landscape and hills of his birthplace, Yorkshire. Moore made many preparatory sketches and drawings for each sculpture. Most of these sketchbooks have survived and provide insight into Moore's development. He placed great importance on drawing; even when he had arthritis, he still was able to draw. After the Second World War, Moore's bronzes took on their larger scale, which was

Each year pregnant polar bears dig a den in the snow of southern facing slopes, where they give birth. The females give birth to one or two cubs. Cubs are naked, blind and deaf when they are born. They learn how to hunt with their mothers for about two and a half years. Polar bears live alone, except for mothers who live with their cubs. Polar bears adapt very well to the cold. They have a layer of blubber around 11,4 centimetres thick. That and the hollow shafts of their hair provide them with excellent insulation. Their ears and tail are very short so they don't lose any heat through them. Their necks are longer than other bears to keep their head above the water when they swim. They have strong legs and partially webbed front feet to help them swim. The polar bear is listed as an endangered species. In the past people hunted polar bears for their fur,

betrayal of Cordelia leads to her needless execution in prison; and Lear finally dies out of grief at Cordelia’s passing. Albany, Edgar, and the elderly Kent are left to take care of the country under a cloud of sorrow and regret. King Lear - The aging king of Britain and the protagonist of the play. Lear is used to enjoying absolute power and to being flattered, and he does not respond well to being contradicted or challenged. At the beginning of the play, his values are notably hollow—he prioritizes the appearance of love over actual devotion and wishes to maintain the power of a king while unburdening himself of the responsibility. Nevertheless, he inspires loyalty in subjects such as Gloucester, Kent, Cordelia, and Edgar, all of whom risk their lives for him. Read an in-depth analysis of King Lear. Estonia? Easter lasts for 4 days in Britain: from Good Friday to Eas-ter Monday. Schools close for two weeks. On Good Friday people usually eat small sweet rolls toasted with butter and containing currants with a cross on top representing the wooden cross Jesus died on. On Easter Sunday Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Most people give each other chocolate eggs of all sizes, which are usually hollow or contain sweets. Families with children often have an Easter Egg Hunt in which everybody must look for eggs hidden in the house or the garden. 4. How do people celebrate Shrove Tuesday in England? Do we celebrate the same day in Estonia? In Estonia, we don't celebrate Shrove Tuesday(Pancake Day). Science Fiction- Over the past century, science fiction has proven a rich source of creative scenarios about the future. Construction of Persuasive Stories As opposed to scenarios, persuasive stories are not meant merely to prepare their audience for the future, but to convince people to adopt the storyteller’s preferred course of action. Conclusion- Current practice in planning addresses the future in ways that are superficial, shortsighted, or hollow. Academics have contributed very little to this cause, leaving planning practitioners to their own devices. If they so desired, planning academics could surely help to build a more intellectually sophisticated and defensible approach to shaping the future. Taken together, however, these elements form a planning toolkit useful for construction of normative futures that are firmly grounded in time as well as space.
The Eternal Moment and other stories (1928) Collected Short Stories (1947) (a combination of the above two titles, containing: · "The Story of A Panic" · "The Other Side Of The Hedge" Thomas Stearns Eliot Thomas Stearns Eliot, (26 September 18884 January1965), was a poet, dramatist, and literary critic. Extruded bricks (slide 11) For extruded bricks the clay is mixed with 20% water. This mixture is forced through a die to create a long cable of material of the desired width and depth. This mass is then cut into bricks of the desired length by a wall of wires. Most structural bricks are made by this method as it produces hard, dense bricks, and suitable dies can produce holes or other perforations as well. The introduction of such holes reduces the volume of clay needed, and hence the cost. Hollow bricks are lighter and easier to handle, and have different thermal properties than solid bricks. The cut bricks are hardened by drying for 20 to 40 hours at 50 to 150 °C before being fired. The heat for drying is often waste heat from the kiln. Characteristics of Brick (slide 12) Clay bricks are good insulators. As wall materials, clay bricks make walls heavy and dense and conduct heat slowly. This was followed by A History of New York (1809), a satirical attack on the upper class old Dutch families of New York. Irving's early works were very heavily influenced by neo-classical satirists such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift. After he met Sir Walter Scott and became familiar with imaginative German lit, a new romantic note became evident in works such as The Sketch Book (1819-1820), which includes Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Bracebridge Hall (1822). Irving was the first Am writer to win the respect of British lit critics. (also the first internationally famous author from the USA) James Fenimore Cooper was perhaps the most popular writer of the period. He drew inspiration for his five volume series of Leatherstocking Tales (1823-1841) from Walter Scott's Waverley novels. The tales, which include The Last of the Mohicans, recount the adventures of the great frontiersman Natty Bumppo, nicknamed

going stay bolts. Two central bores, one at the top and one halfway down inside the cylinder block, enclose the cylinder liner. The upper part of the cylinder block forms part of the cooling water space around the central part of the cylinder liner, whereas the lower part forms the scavenge air space. A central bore in the bottom of the cylinder block encloses the piston rod stuffing box. The bottom is double with a hollow space through which cooling water is circulated. On the exhaust side of the cylinder block there is a circular opening leading into the longitudinal scavenge air receiver of the engine. Furthermore, there is an inlet pipe for cooling and lubricating oil. The cylinder block is provided with cleaning and inspection covers for the cooling water and scavenge air spaces. an opening of 40 m. The efficiency of the low head Kaplan turbine is about 75 % and the friction of about 5 % which reduces the kinetic energy in the tapered channel and the piping system in total. Please calculate the theoretical maximum power output of the power plant. 16 Oscillating water column (OWC) Like the tapered channel systems, an oscillating water column power plant is also located at shore in regions with a low tidal range. An oscillating wave column power plant has a hollow container of concrete half filled with water which is open to the sea below sea level. A wave reaching the power plant causes a water flow through the opening below sea level. That causes a vertically rising of the water level inside the container If the waves flows back, the water level decreases. With every incoming wave the water column inside is oscillating. The air above the water inside the container is temporarily compressed in a tapered air-channel
In the previous centuries, one of the methods to protect Holland was to reflood the drained lands. Rotterdam has the largest port in the world. Twelve provinces make up the Netherlands: Groningen, Friesland, Flevopolder, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Utrecht, North and South Holland, Zeeland, North Brabant and Limburg. The Netherlands is known as Holland because the North and South Holland provinces are the most internationally influential. Holland means hollow or soaked land. Ice skating is one of the most popular sports in Holland. Each year approximately 45,000 people go to the Waddenzee to be "mud-walkers". The people essentially walk around the muddy canals for fun. There are also places where vacationers can farm and dredge canals. The plough, in its modern form, is a Dutch invention. The Dutch invented the thimble. Many names used for fabrics and patterns came from Holland (cambric came from Cambrai, diaper from d'Apres).

Monday. Schools close for two weeks. On Good Friday people traditionally eat small sweet rolls, toasted with butter and containing currants, with a cross on top representing the wooden cross Jesus died on – hence their name – “hot cross buns”. On Easter Sunday Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Most people give each other chocolate eggs of all sizes, which are usually hollow or contain sweets. Families with children often have Easter Egg Hunt, in which everybody must look for eggs hidden in the house or the garden. Easter is first and foremost a spring holiday to celebrate the time of new birth and the reawakening of nature. 35. Remembrance Day. the Saint-Pierre du Vauvray Bridge (1922) by Freyssinet. He perfected the technique of prestressing concrete by inserting hydraulic rams in a gap left at the crown of arches, then activating the rams to lift the arches off the falsework and filling the gap with concrete, leaving only permanent compressive stresses in the arches. The Vauvray Bridge over the Seine was the record span at 430ft (131m), the deck being hung from hollow cellular arch ribs on wire hangers, coated with cement mortar, and supporting the road on light concrete deck trusses. The Vauvray Bridge was destroyed in World War II, leaving the Plougastel Bridge (1930) over the River Elon at Brest, with three spans of 567ft (173m), as the longest reinforced concrete arch span until 1942. Swiss engineer Robert Maillart designed three-hinged arches in which the deck and the arch ribs
