Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape
Designated a World Heritage Site in 2006.
The Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site areas are spread across 12 districts of
Cornwall and West Devon, and there are many walks and visitor attractions to experience in
each of them. By example Gwennap Pit, an open-air amphitheatre which may have originated
from a hollow created by sunken mine workings; and King Edward Mine, the oldest complete
mine site in Cornwall.
Cornwall and West Devon was the centre of mining technology, and it was from here that
mining technologies spread across the world.
