Gröönimaast - kokkuvõte

Gröönimaa vetes ujub umbes 225 kalaliiki, osa järvedes ja jõgedes, osa meres. Piisavalt on ka erinevaid putukaliike. Kuna meie ekspeditsioon kulgeb valdavalt mööda mandrijääd, ei kohta me loodetavasti rannikuil toitu jahtivat jääkaru. Samas loodame ekspeditsiooni lõpuosas saada osa Gröönimaa elusloodusest ja ehk õnnestub kohata mõnda põtra või muud looma. http://www.greenland-guide.gl/animal_life.htm ehk siis loomade pildid ja txt In Greenland whale watching can be enjoyed from the streets or even from your hotel room. During the late summer and early autumn whales swim close to the coast and are sometimes seen in the harbours. But of course the best way to spot these huge mammals is at sea. Whale-watching tours are offered in several towns in Greenland. When you sail along the coast on a passenger ship, the captain will often notify you when whales are close.

settlements. In many places, Inuit children were required to attend schools that emphasized non- native traditions. With better health care, the Inuit population grew larger, too large to sustain itself solely by hunting. Many Inuit from smaller camps moved into permanent settlements because there was access to jobs and food. In many areas Inuit were required to live in towns by the 1960s. Mythology Malina Malina is the Sun goddess of the Inuit people who live in Greenland. The word "Inuit" means "people." Malina and her brother, the Moon god Anningan, lived together. They got into a terrible fight and Malina spread dirty, black grease all over her brother's face. In fear, she ran as far as she could into the sky and became the Sun. Anningan chased after her and became the Moon. Anningan Anningan often forgets to eat, so he gets thinner as the days go by. Every month, the Moon disappears for three days while Anningan eats

GREY WOLF ARCTIC WOLF HABITAT AND DISTRIBUTION • They have lived in North America for more than two million years. • The arctic wolf inhabits the Canadian Arctic and the islands, parts of Alaska and northern parts of Greenland. • In their natural habitat, they rarely encounter humans. MAIN THREATS • The greatest threat to the Arctic wolf is climate change. • Extreme weather variations in recent years have made it difficult for populations of muskox and Arctic hares to find food, and this has caused a decline in numbers. Kanada ajalugu, regioonid ja kliima

Early History The first inhabitants of Canada were native Indian people who were called as Inuits. They are believed to be in Canada since about 10000 BC. The Inuits came to Canada from Asia crossing the Bering land bridge. The earliest discoveries in Canada were made by the Vikings. In AD 985 Vikings sailing from Iceland to Greenland were blown westward off their course and the Vikings sighted the coast of Labrador peninsula. The report of forested areas encouraged further exploration because the colonies in Greenland which belonged to the Vikings lacked lumber. In AD 1000 Leif Ericson became the first European to land in North America. The first colony was established what was described as Vinland by the Vikings. It was located on the northernmost tip of todays Newfoundland.

So he finally breaks free of his humdrum life to see the world and track down the missing photograph. Stiller ends up starring and directing the entire movie after much negotiation during the pre-production. Jim Carrey and Sacha Baron Cohen were considered for the role of Walter Mitty, while Stephen Spielber was considered to direct movie. Mitty brings his fantasies to life with adventures in frosty mountains and warzones. But most of these adventures are shot in either Greenland or Iceland. The 'real life' scenes, such as that in the Life magazine office and outside it, are shot in New York. In 985 AD Vikings who wanted to go to Greenland from Iceland were blown off their course and they reached Canada. It is thought that they reached Labrador. They saw forested areas there and further exploration were encouraged by this discovery because the Norse colonists from Greenland lacked lumber which was found in Canada. across the country, Canadians experience many different landscapes from rolling plains and mountains to the cold tundra of the north. Despite Canada's great size, it is one of the world's most sparsely populated countries. This fact, coupled with the grandeur of the landscape, has been central to the sense of Canadian national identity. 2. Geographical position Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia. In the Arctic, Canada reaches almost as far north as Greenland. To the south it extends to the same latitude as southern France. The distance from Canada's west coast, the Pacific Ocean, to its east coast, the Atlantic Ocean, is farther than from North America to Europe. Canada's total land area includes thousands of adjacent islands, notably Newfoundland in the east and those of the Arctic Archipelago in the north. In longitude Canada extends from approximately 52° to 141° W, a distance that spans six time zones

NORTHERN LIGHTS

NORTHERN LIGHTS LIINA VIROLAINEN 12A CLASS KEILA KOOL NORTHERN LIGHTS Northern lights is a common name for the Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere. Where can we see the northern lights? The Northern Lights, as the name suggests, are especially related to the polar regions. They occur most frequently in a belt of radius 2500 km centered on the magnetic north pole. This so-called auroral zone extends over northern Scandinavia, Island, the southern tip of Greenland and continuing over northern Canada, Alaska and along the northern coast of Siberia. How often can you see the Northern Lights? In Troms and Finnmark, we can see the Northern Lights every other clear night, if not even more frequently. From southern Norway, only a few times a month while in central Europe hardly more than a few times a year and they have even been seen from the Mediterranean but only a few times each century. To the north of the auroral zone, the Northern Lights

The major deserts of semiarid deserts include the sagebrush of Utah, Montana and Great Basin. They also include the Nearctic realm (North America, Newfoundland, Greenland, Russia, Europe and northern Asia). Coastal deserts occur in moderately cool to warm areas such as the Nearctic and Neotropical realm. A good example is the Atacama of Chile. Cold deserts occur in the Antarctic, Greenland and the Nearctic realm. Climate In hot and dry deserts temperatures exhibit daily extremes because the atmosphere contains little humidity to block the Sun's rays. Many mean annual temperatures range from 20-25° C. The extreme maximum ranges from 43.5-49° C. Minimum temperatures sometimes drop to -18° C. Rainfall is usually very low and/or concentrated in short bursts between long rainless periods. In semiarid deserts summer temperatures usually average between 21-27° C. It

exploiting the solar gain during the summer season. Furthermore the presence of snow increases the solar radiation because of the reflection. In this paper the energy saving potentials for different window types have been examined by determining the net energy gains in Danish and Greenlandic climates. Furthermore the windows have been evaluated by performing building simulations of the heating demand in typical single-family houses in Denmark and Greenland. The examined windows are typical new windows from Nordic countries and new proposals of improved windows with low thermal transmittance and high total solar energy transmittance. The results show that net energy gain can be increased considerably by reducing the frame width, which results in a larger transparent area causing a larger solar gain but still maintaining a low thermal trans-mittance. Using three layers of glass with large gaps, using very slim frame profiles, and omitting the edge

Tulbid

Tulbid Tulp (Tulipa) on sibullillede perekond liilialiste (Liliaceae) sugukonnast, kuhu kuulub ca 100 liiki. Tulpe on pea kõikides värvitoonides ja neid on aias lihtne kasvatada. Eesti parkides kasvab metsistunult ehk naturaliseerunult kollaseõieline metstulp (T. Sylvestris). Eventually North America became populated by many different tribes of people. They fished, and where soil permitted, planted crops and farmed the land. After the native people came the Vikings. First they discovered Greenland and after a few years they found America. The next one to arrive in America was Christopher Columbus in 1492. He wasn't actually looking for America. He was looking for a shorter route to the Far East, where he would find valuable silks and spices. Columbus landed on a small island in the Bahamas which Columbus named San Salvador. He thought he had landed on the Spice Islands near India. This is why he named the people he met Indians.

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

In the 9th – 10th centuries they sailed as far as Novgorod and Kiev. Constantinople and Cicily, Iceland, Greenland, and North America (A Viking leader Leif Eriksson reached it about the year 1000, that is 500 years before Columbus). Armed gangs of Vikings raided nearly all the European countries. The inhabitants of coastal and inland cities often collected money to pay them off. Besides the British Isles, the Vikings settled in Iceland, Greenland and a part of north- western France which became known as Normandy. It is believed that a Viking leader Rurik became king of Rus. To have a better idea of the Vikings and their way of life, it would be good to see an American film The Vikings and a Russian-Norwegian film «И на камнях растут деревья». coastal прибрежный, береговой inland (adj) внутренний, удаленный от моря
