In Joe's opinion he was rotten and fits only for the grave. He is happy that he has no children, because misfortune has followed him always and he wouldn't want to inherit the curse that is upon him. Joe didn't believe in God, he was a sceptic. The nurse told that it is time to leace the old man. He took the old man's hand to say goodbye and asked if there was anything he could to for him. Joe answered that he only wants to die, but meanwhile he should be greatful for a pack of cigarettes. Moral of the story: It all depends on how you look at things, indeed upon your whole life.
