London

The Great Fire of London broke out in City and quickly swept through the wooden buildings. London was the world's largest city from about 1831 to 1925. Immediately after the World War II , the 1948 Summer Olympics were held at the original Wembley Stadium, at a time when the city had barely recovered from the war. The Thames Barrier was completed in the 1980s to protect London against tidal surges from the North Sea. In 2000, Londonwide government was restored, with the creation of the Greater London Authority. Geography: Greater London covers an area of 607 square miles. Its primary geographical feature is the Thames, a navigable river which crosses the city from the southwest to the east. The Thames Valley is a floodplain surrounded by gently rolling hills including Parliament Hill, Addington Hills, and Primrose Hill. London has a temperate marine climate, like much of the British Isles, so the city rarely sees extremely high or low temperatures.

1) Identify the route that air takes from the atmosphere to the blood (e.g., air enters through the mouth and then...). 2) Explain the mechanism of how air is drawn into the body with reference to Boyle's law and diffusion. 3) With reference to Dalton's law explain why training at altitude can be problematic for athletes. Henry's Law · When a mixture of gases is in contact with a liquid, each gas will dissolve in the liquid in proportion to its partial pressure. · Greater concentration of gas, the more and faster that gas will go into solution in the liquid. · How much gas dissolves in liquid depends on: solubility of the gas in the liquid temperature of the liquid. Did You Know...? The solubility of a gas in blood and the temperature of blood are relatively constant. Differences in the partial pressures of gases in the aveoli and in the blood create a pressure gradient across the respiratory membrane.

How can we increase the quality of breathable air? Essee

How can we increase the quality of breathable air? “I’ll go out for a breath of fresh air” is an often-heard phrase. But how many of us realize that this has become irrelevant in today’s world? Air pollution is the addition of any harmful substances to the atmosphere, which causes the damaging of the environment, human health and the quality of life. Firstly, we should use green methods of powering like wind energy and landfill gas energy. This would reduce the amount of harmful gases. Another useful suggestion would be to plant trees. In this way we can increase the source of breathable oxygen. Unfortunately, many companies are contributing to deforestation. Finally, it would help if we put taxes on carbon emissions or higher taxes on gasoline. In this way people and companies will have greater incentives to conserve energy and pollute less. In conclusion, there are many ways to ...

Why students dropp out of college

There are advantages as well as disadvantages of getting international aid. International aid could help in improving the country's position in the world. International aid can contribute to fighting global poverty, hunger and help get access to medical care. It can also provide to solve problems like terrorism, rehabilitation and many other problems. However, receiving countries could misuse international aid. Money could use to fund illegal activities and the strengthening of armed forces. International aid should be used very wisely and judiciously, only then can we eliminate poverty and hunger and other problems in the world. Students tend to drop out because their expectations of college--academically, socially, or both--don't match up with the reality once they get there. They also suffer from lack of motivation, inadequate preparation, and poor study skills. Students who are well prepared for college coursework are more likely ...

Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

observe: - It is not a variety that has spontaneously emerged recently Estuary English is a new name. But it is not a new phenomenon. It is the continuation of a trend that has been going on for five hundred years or more - the tendency for features of popular London speech to spread out geographically (to other parts of the country) and socially (to higher social classes). The erosion of the English class system and the greater social mobility in Britain today means that this trend is more clearly noticeable than was once the case. (Wells 1997) - `the sudden emergence of a new type of English' results from irresponsible disregard for the facts. 3. Commonly cited salient features of Estuary English · l-vocalization, milk miwk · glottalling, using a glottal stop · happY-tensing; happy, coffee, valley · yod coalescence; Tuesday, tune, attitude, duke, reduce · diphthong shift, FACE, PRICE and GOAT vowels (wotshor

Safe streets again Increasing crime frequency is serious concern for everybody. Feeling unsecure, being scared are things that we should not encounter in our society. Nevertheless we have to find solution, which will last. Firstly, we have to create greater police presence. More officers means more people will certainly get help and feel safe again, which is the most important. Also criminals cannot accomplish crimes, because they definitely do not want to be caught. Secondly, we have to establish tougher sentences for those who commit crimes. First reason being is they will sit longer in prison. Second reason: delinquent will think before he does something. Stress

People experience various forms of stress that is a natural part of people’s lives and it can motivate people to work harder. But if it becomes negative stress, it can affect people’s ability to be positive. To begin with, the main source of stress for young people is school and family. Daily homework takes a large part of our free time. Getting a bad grade causes a disappointment. Especially if the day before there was a lot of learning for the examination. Family may have a greater effect on young people. The death of a loved one, sick family member and relationship problems can lead to being under negative pressure. What is more, stressed youth are pessimistic and in a long period of time it becomes unhealthy. One of the ways to handle stress is doing what I love, such as taking pictures of nature. Doing activity like this includes walking and being in healthy enviroment. This is a good way to ignore stress. Another way to cope with stress is good time managment

The importance of college

It is my considered opinion that higher education is necessary for a number of reasons. To begin with, people who lack educational degrees are more likely to be limited to basic jobs in service and manufacturing industries since today's job market is competitive and employers may not be interested in hiring candidates who do not have a degree. While employees with higher education have a better opportunity to get jobs with a lot of benefits and greater salaries. What is more, a lot of university courses include practical parts and work experience. Having a previous job experience in the field they have chosen, before they actually enter to the job market, is a huge advantage. Moreover, the more connections students collect during their internships, the more options they will have when they begin job search. On the other hand, there are people who believe that higher education is not necessary in order to get a good job

How to react in different situations, what to do with toxic substances etc. It's a bit like creating a film. Of course disaster and emergency management consultants can fly around the world lot. More free time and greater leisure options at home and out are responsible in part for the growing importance of that job. The need for independent and objective advice has never been bigger. Why are people ingnoring evironmental issues

Why are people ingnorig evironmental issues? People are always talking about environmental issues without actually doing anything about it.There are not many people who are devoted to saving the Earth. It seems like people just do not care, but that might be just a small part of the reason. The biggest reason for ignoring environmental issues might be that people tend to focus on immediate problems rather than on problems that are far away in the future and seem unrealistic. If there is no immediate danger or a problem to be fixed, than people just do not consider it to be important. And people do have immediate problems to be fixed, because life is getting busier each day. People have already so much to worry about, they do not have the time to make „Earth saving plans“. The perfect reason, or rather an excuse is that ordinary people do not have time to care about environmental issues. Of course, if people would want to...

Are mistakes necessary for discovery and progress?

would be more likely to come. But progress and new discoveries can sometimes be achieved also without any mistakes made. For example, if a bright idea occurs in someones head, it is posible to work out something new and innovating by not making any errors. But it is rarely like that. To sum up, it can be said that mistakes do lead to progress and discovery - the knowledge gained from these mistakes is invaluable in progressing to greater heights. At the same time, it is not as though every discovery or progress in any field is always preceded by mistakes.

Essee fast food

burger can be godsend. Besides the time an individual has to spend in the kitchen, cooking a meal also requires one to make a trip to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for the food. Fast food has very many disadvantages. The greatest disadvantage of fast food is the adverse effect. It is a fact that fast food is more unhealthy than homecooked meals, as they contain higher amounts of salt, fats and calories. The greater the number of people at a meal in a fast food restaurant, the larger is the bill. Eating at fast food outlets is economical only for a single person. Going out to a fast food eating joint with family once in a while won't matter much. However, frequent visits to such restaurants with one's family can become quite an expensive affair, besides being unhealthy. Companies food being served fast and right in front of us is like a blessing after a hard day's work.

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government?

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government? Intolerance in society is actually the intolerance of it’s individual members. Intolerance is rooted in fear and ignorance. People are afraid of the unknown, it is natural. But it can only grow, if it gets encouragement, either from parents, who are also ingorant or school, who just do not teach children any better. And fighting intolerance requires Law. Intolerance can be fought with education. Tolerance can be teached at an early age only, later it is difficult change a person’s values. And if intolerance starts with the fear of the unknow, education can help. Government should emphasise education more and more. For and against globalization

For and against globalization. "One world, one language, one currency, one religion, one law, and equality" is the motto of globalization. To end globalization we must end as soon as possible all trading barriers that are between the different countries. We must send our products to all markets and make sure that all the markets are going to be affected. If all markets are connected with each other then they will start to compete and that removes inefficient producers. Furthermore it will rise the quality of products higher and reduces their cost. Secondly different products and technological progresses are going to spread faster all over the globe. It gives unlimited access for the poorer people all over the Word to get the cheapest source of desired goods and services. Thirdly removing trading barriers help unemployed people to get jobs and deincrease the effect of the nowaday monopolies and explotation of th...

Thus, mercy killing is very humane and reasonable thing to do and does not deserve punishment. The negative aspect of euthanasia is that it is still a form of killing. One should not be in judge over others life, even when it is for a good cause. The fact that euthanasia could be misused is not less important. In conclusion, although mercy killing is a form of taking someone’s life, it should not be punishable when it is for greater good. Is the purpose of law to protect property? life and every living thing on the planet. Everything else we see is created by us, but also provided for us by materialistic matter in a philosophical sense. Emotions and relationships can also be explained through materialistic world of view, for example love means to value flowers, chocolate and other nice or expensive things. Idealism on the contrary is a metaphysical doctrine that explains the existence of something greater than us or that everything around is created by a spirit of some sort. We can not comprehend these higher powers. It affirms and prioritizes ideals or ideas and that reality is mental. Spirit is the essence of being and human. Although the physical human body or life among us can deteriorate, the spirit of it is infinite and by understanding that we can be united with the universe or even comprehend it’s existence. Both of these philosophical schools have truth in them in my eyes
