Extreme Sports.

Extreme Sports Ice Climbing Ice climbing is an activity of climbing through ice structures or formations. These ice formations may be in the form of frozen waterfalls, icefalls or rocks covered with frozen water flow or ice, or they may be ice structures that are artificially structured. Ice climbing is a crucial part of any mountaineering activity or training. Ice climbing competitions are a sport for a small group of climbing specialists. But the big difference of ice-climbing from other "non mass sports" is, that it is also very interesting for spectators and media. As a matter of fact, ice climbing is a fairly new Competition Sport

Individual Sugars, Soluble, and Insoluble Dietary FiberContents of 70 High Consumption Foods.

pasta, fruits, legumes and vegetables were purchased for analysis. This kind of method is named sampling. One of the important methods of analysis is sample preparation. Non-edible parts of fruits and vegetables, such as stem, core, seeds, and skin, were removed before further sample preparation. In this method all vegetables were cooked in the microwave. Equal weight portions of the same food were composited and blended to a homogenous mixture. Frozen samples were further dried in vacuum before analysis. An important part of analysis is sugar determination. In this method, samples were analyzed for mono- and disaccharides by high-performance liquid chromatography. In the issue, from 14 baked products most of them contained varying levels of fructose, glucose, and maltose; only three contained sucrose..All of the 19 fruits contained fructose, glucose, and sucrose; six contained maltose.

The poor farmer's daugters

However, the most `special' was Alice, who was the one that mixed the potion for Lucia. Alice was thought to be a witch's child, but there was not enough proof for her execution since the farmer always destroyed all evidence of magic. Her look was a bit of creepy: black hair, light brown skin and dark wild eyes. Yet, the farmer loved her very much and so did most of the sisters. Well, some exceptions are not in count. Madeleine was found in December, half frozen due to the really cold weather. She is believed to be a half elf because of her extraordinary looks: knee-length silky white hair and emerald green glittery eyes. Sometimes her eye-color changed, especially when she got angry on Ange, the next sister in the row. It turned from green to gray. Angelique, or just Ange for the most, was the sweetest child of all. She was quiet and caring, a total opposite of naïve Margaret. She liked music and dancing, moving slighter

mountains. Valleys in the region are important farming areas producing fruit, vegetables and dairy products. Canada's North includes the Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories along with all of Canada's Arctic islands. To most canadians this region is quite remote since 75 % of the population lives within 300 km of the US border. The North is home to over 85 000 people, and a great variety of wildlife. It's so cold that the earth is frozen for most of the year and never thaws more than a metre from the surface. This permanently frozen layer of earth is called permafrost. Canada's two million lakes cover about 7,6 % of Canada's land. Canada has very famous lakes called the Great Lakes which includes seven lakes: Lake Huron (which is also the biggest lake of Canada), Lake Great Bear, Lake Superior, Lake Great Slave (also the deepest lake, with a depth of 614 m), Lake Winnipeg, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario

RMS Titanic

RMS Titanic Kaspar Kitsnik VLE-11 Why was Titanic built? Although Titanic is best known for carrying the rich and famous between Europe and the United States, the Ship actually had several purposes: 1. To carry British and US mail--hence the full name of the ship is Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic. 2. To carry general cargo and frozen meat since at that time Europe could not produce enough livestock to meet its own needs. 3. To carry first-class passengers in great luxury, second-class passengers in great comfort and third-class passengers with great economy. 4. To fly the flag of Great Britain and uphold national honor. Even though Titanic was ultimately owned by American business interests, the Ship was built in a British yard, operated by British

Tundra

Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning treeless plain. It is noted for its frost-moulded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool. The two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen is created by biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation. The most distinctive characteristic of tundra soil is its permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of ground. The average winter temperature is -28°C, but the average summer temperature is 3-16°C. During the brief summers, the top section of the soil may thaw out allowing plants and microorganisms to grow and reproduce. However, these plants and microorganisms become dormant during the cold winter months. Soil is formed slowly. The constant freezing and thawing in the tundra helps to break the rocks into smaller pieces. Permafrost consists mostly of gravel and finer material

bands, Billy Talent's homeland is Canada. Breaking Benjamin, vocalist number one to my mind, is tightly connected to that wonderful country as well. We studied it casually in form 8, but I'd like to overlearn some facts and maybe even get new ones. Unit three has the honour to gift us reading, grammar, listening and other needful exercises we might actually use in real life after all, that's what the school's about; it's preparing us to dive into the frozen ocean of realistic life of the adulthood without getting any scratches. And, since we're all really eager to learn new things from our English textbooks, I'm sure that one day we'll be able to perfectly complete that dive and be happy, enjoying every single day like it's the last one we'll ever see (not considering 2012). Well, after chapter one there'll be chapter two however, aren't we forgetting about something

Canada

In the Atlantic Provinces, the most important activities include fishing and farming of all sorts. Also in the Atlantic Provinces are the Appalachian Mountains old and rounded mountains. The North is also comprised of three territories. The area has a varied landscape including mountains and plains. The climate there is extremely cold with long winters and a lot of snow. Much of the area is treeless tundra. In the summer months, the sun stays up for the whole day, never setting. The permanent frozen layer of earth there makes construction a real challenge. Perhaps Canada's most famous animal is the moose. They, along with grizzly bears, are the most well-known of its many mammals. Gray wolves are also very popular in Canadian large wild spaces. There are plenty others, though. The wolverine is a large member of the weasels' family. It has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion with its size, with the documented ability to kill pray many times larger than itself.

Saturn

orbits of its closest moons, they are very thin, measuring no more than a few kilometers (about a mile) in thickness ("Great Space Place"). The Pioneer 11 flyby made several discoveries about the rings. The rings are made of particles that are dust-sized up to large mountain-sized masses, with the average size being in the marble to basketball range - about 10 centimeters (four inches). These particles are extremely cold and are possibly composed of frozen water and other ices. An extensive cloud of hydrogen was also discovered around the rings. The rings might have resulted when a moon or a passing body ventured too close to Saturn. The unlucky object would have been torn apart by great tidal forces on ts surface and in its interior. In , the object may not have been fully formed to begin with anddisintegrated under the influence of Saturn's gravity. A third possibility is thatthe

Mary Shelly "Frankenstein"

Captain Walton's introductory frame narrative The novel Frankenstein is written in epistolary form, documenting a correspondence between Captain Robert Walton and his sister, Margaret Walton Saville. Walton is a failed writer who sets out to explore the North Pole and expand his scientific knowledge in hopes of achieving fame. During the voyage the crew spots a dog sled mastered by a gigantic figure. A few hours later, the crew rescues a nearly frozen and emaciated man named Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein has been in pursuit of the gigantic man observed by Walton's crew. Frankenstein starts to recover from his exertion; he sees in Walton the same over-ambitiousness and recounts a story of his life's miseries to Walton as a warning. Victor Frankenstein's narrative Victor begins by telling of his childhood. Born into a wealthy family in Geneva, he is encouraged to seek a greater understanding of the world around him through science. H...

paper and looked at it again. A leg of lamb. All right then, they would have lamb for supper. She carried it upstairs, holding the thin bone-end of it with both her hands, and as she went through the living-room, she saw him standing over by the window with his back to her, and she stopped. "For God's sake," he said, hearing her, but not turning round. "Don't make supper for me. I'm going out." At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head. She might just as well have hit him with a steel club. She stepped back a pace, waiting, and the funny thing was that he remained standing there for at least four or five seconds, gently swaying. Then he crashed to the carpet. The violence of the crash, the noise, the small table overturning, helped bring her out of he shock.

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

The first circle they enter is Limbo, which consists of heathen and the unbaptized, who led decent lives. The second through the fifth circles are for the lustful, gluttonous, prodigal, and wrathful. The sixth circle is where heretics are punished. The seventh circle is devoted to the punishment of violence. The eighth is devoted to those guilty of fraud and the ninth for those who betrayed others. In the last section, Satan remains imprisoned in a frozen lake. The journey is difficult and full of revelations, disappointment and questions, but they persevere. The end of their journey leads Dante and Virgil to the bottom of Hell. Lucifer is seen in all his ugliness and they are drawn towards Heaven. They emerge to the surface, rising above the ugliness of sin and journey towards their goal as they catch sight of the stars shining in the heavens. Their journey begins on Good Friday and they emerge from Hell on the day of Resurrection, Easter

Inuit Culture

Family and community are very important. The Inuktitut language is still spoken in many areas of the Arctic and is common on radio and in television programming. Changes to Inuit Life during the 20th Century Inuit a century ago lived very differently than Inuit today. Before the 1940s, Inuit had minimal contact with Europeans. Europeans passed through on their way to hunt whales or trade furs but very few of them had any interest in settling down on the frozen land of the Arctic. So the Inuit had the place to themselves. They moved between summer and winter camps to always be living where there were animals to hunt. In winter camps they lived in snow shelters called igloos. In summer camps they lived in tents made of animal skins and bones. But that changed. As World War II ended and the Cold War began, the Arctic became a place where countries that didn't get along were close to each other. The Arctic had always been seen

This region is sparsely populated. Many indigenous peoples live there. It covers a large area and has a varied landscape which includes mountains, plains and lowlands. Canadian Shield also features there. This region is very cold. There are very long winters and the ground is frozen throughout the year. The regions consist of 13 different territories and provinces. The provinces are responsible for most of Canada's social programs (such as health care, education, and welfare) and together collect more revenue than the federal government, an almost unique structure among federations in the world. Economy. Canada is a large country blessed with many natural resources. From trees they make pulp and paper. From mines they get coal, gold, silver, iron,
