Surprise
the same sound, only louder, interrupted me again. Now I stood up, placed the envelope on the
armchair and went down the stairs to look for the source of the noise or something else to explain it.
There was nothing wrong and it was perfectly silent. As I stood there looking around me the front
door opened. It was my sister coming in. I greeted her and then she started talking about an
artschool she had been invited to. We talked a long time, and I got carried away with the
conversatin, forgotting the envelope that still waited me on my armchair.
Later at night, when I at last got to my room, I found the letter and remembered to open it. So I
picked up the envelopen again. And opened it slowly, with a little hesitation. It was easy to open it. I
took out the folded paper, letting the empty envelope fall on the floor. I unfolded the letter and
started reading the lines. It was a formal letter and it took only a brief moment for me to understand
what it was about
