Robert Burns
he was a very clever teacher. Robert interested him more than other pupils. When Robert´s
father decided to try his hand at farming their family moved. John Murdoch stayed with the
family and continued teaching the boys for two more years. On the other hand Robert´s
teachers were folk songs and ballads of his country. He knew a great number of them by
heart. These years Robert read any book he could get. At the age of thirteen Robert had to
take over most of the work on the famr because his father was growing old and weak. Those
were hard times. Robert suffered from illnesses because of the hard work and little food. But
inspite of all hardships and poverty at the age of fifteen Robert began to write. After his father
´s death the poet had to support his large family. He helped his brothers and sisters all his life
even though he never had much money. Unfortunately, Robert Burns was not a successful
farmer. The family had to live very poorly indeed
