Animals we miss today

The foodchain is disturbed and animals will die. *Wildlife trade: Poaching and wildlife trade are another common threat to animals. International wildlife trade has also been linked to drugs trade. The most common anilmal trade is pet trade, such as orangutangs. Animals are also killed for fur(tigers, leopards, cheetahs) *Climate change: It has been recently suggested that warmer global temperatures may be affecting animals. In fact, it has been suggested that the golden toad became extinct because of the warmer climate. The Animals *T-REX: Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest land carnivores of all time. His weight was about 7 tons.He had a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Fossils of T. rex have been found in North American rock formations. More than 30 specimens of T. rex have been identified, some of which are nearly complete skeletons. He became extinct 65 million years ago.

Thylacine AKA the Tasmanian Tiger/Wolf • The Tasmanian Tiger was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. • Native to continental Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. • Believed to have become extinct in the 20th century. • Became extremely rare or extinct on the Australian mainland before British settlement of the continent, but it survived to the 1930s on the island of Tasmania. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vqCCI1ZF7o • The thylacine was able to open its jaws to an unusual extent: up to 120 degrees. This capability can be seen in part in David Fleay's short black-and- white film sequence of a captive thylacine from 1933. The jaws were muscular but weak and had 46 teeth.

scientists as being "functionally extinct" in the wild. But a group called Save China's Tigers has been working on a captive- breeding programme and hopes to reach an agreement with China's State Forestry Administration to reintroduce captive-bred animals into the wild. If all goes well, the first individuals could be reintroduced to coincide with the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Rare insect hit by housing scheme Britain's rarest beetle, the streaked bombardier, could soon become extinct in the UK when a new housing development is built over the single site at which it can be found, a brownfield site on the Thames Estuary in East London. "It is very sad that a deliberate choice has been made to plough on with the development, regardless of the consequences to wildlife," said Jamie Roberts of the invertebrate conservation group Buglife. A last ditch attempt is being made to move the beetles to a specially designed pile of rubble that replicates their existing

Physical characteristics Tigers are easy to recognise. They typically have rustyreddish to brownrusty coats, a whitish medial and ventral area, a white "fringe" that surrounds the face, and stripes that vary from brown or gray to pure black. The form and density of stripes differs between subspecies, but most tigers have over 100 stripes. Subspecies There are nine recent subspecies of tiger, three of which are extinct. The surviving subspecies, in descending order of wild population, are: The Bengal tiger or the Royal Bengal tiger; The Indochinese Tiger, also called Corbett's tiger; The Malayan Tiger; The Sumatran Tiger; The Siberian tiger, also known as the Amur, Manchurian, Altaic, Korean or North China tiger; The South China Tiger, also known as the Amoy or Xiamen tiger. We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children

We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children There is a saying that „we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.“ Nowadays people don not think about it and are ruining the planet. There are researches which say that the human life on Earth will go extinct within a century. Eventually the Earth will become uninhabitable. People cannot change the past but their actions affect the future. One of the ways how people are affecting the lives of future generations is increasing pollution. Clean air and water are the most valuable resources, but they are getting more and more polluted. For example the air in China is so polluted that people need to wear masks. The pollution of water kills hundreds of thousands of water animals and birds. Some of the

Where I'm From - poem/luuletus

I'm just from a group that thinks it's a game. I'm not from a place of emotional flow, But more from a place where nothing will show. I am from the seaside, I'm waiting for tide, The amount of their feelings that people will hide. I am from a country with a colorful past, "How long?" they said, "How long will it last?" Dark clouds sent by gods as they form in the sky, Like millions of people on the streets walking by. Now, imagine that people would become extinct, Their knowledge, their data all lost in a blink. But maybe our lives are not what they seem, Maybe, just maybe, it's all just a dream.

whereas others, like the Irish hare, red deer and pine marten are less so. Aquatic wildlife such as species of turtle, shark, whale, dolphin, and others are common off the coast. About 400 species of birds have been recorded in Ireland. Many of these are migratory, including the swallow. Most of Ireland's bird species come from Iceland, Greenland, Africa among other territories. There are no snakes in Ireland and only one reptile (the common lizard) is native to the country. Extinct species include the great Irish elk, the wolf, the great auk, and others. Some previously extinct birds such as the golden eagle have recently been reintroduced after decades of extirpation. History **** A long cold climatic spell prevailed until about 9,000 years ago, and most of Ireland was covered with ice. This era was known as the Ice Age. Retell Global Warming

additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will become extinct. So as a result we have to slow down the global warming.

Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans life

Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans' life In the nature of humankind it is natural to hunt animals. However, nowadays hunting endangered species will make humans be just killers, because it is not necessary to kill something just to have a trophy on the wall at home. People can be proud of what they have done, but decreasing the population of a species largely will cause the specific animal breed to go extinct faster than it would happen via natural causes. Therefore, humans should stop hunting endangered species to slow down their extinction, as these species offer balance in the wildlife, are used without purpose in medicine, and may even reduce poverty. Species on the brink of extinction affect us more than we realize. Sure, pandas are cute, and rhinos are fun to look at, but is there anything more to that? All animals and plants form a very important part of our ecosystem that

Animals shrinking in the heat

Scientist have warned, that animals such as sheep, deer, birds and reptiles are shrinking due to climate change. Researchers say warmer temperatures over the past few years have made some animals adapt to need less body fat to survive while others are struggling for food. In the next few decades, some types of mammals, fish, birds and plants are getting smaller and evolve into miniature versions of what they are today. This could force some creatures, that people eat, to become extinct, Dr David Bickford from the National University of Singapore reviewed research showing creatures from deer to tortoises, gulls, goshawks and even polar bears have already shrunk over the past 50 years. 'Because recent climate change may be faster than past historical changes in climate, many organisms may not respond or adapt quickly enough. The species that can adapt are the species that will be affected by potential declines in body size.'

Inglise keele report: Animals in danger of extinction

a) Over the last couple of years the list of animals in danger of extinction has grown rapidly. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has calculated the percentage of endangered animals as 40 percent of all organisms. Recent research indicates that 70% of the world's most threatened mammal species are currently receiving little or no conservation attention. On 29 January 2010, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species identified 842 extinct species and subspecies. b) The rarest animal on Earth today is the Pinta Island Tortoise (originating from the Galapagos Islands) , which is critically endangered, since there is only one remaining in existence. Tortoises on the Galápagos have been hunted for their meat by sailors and fishermen to the point of extinction. Also, the habitat of the tortoises has been eaten away by goats introduced from the mainland.

Retelling the Aboriginal people

lived as hunter-gatherers along the coast and in the inland desert areas, following the same lifestyle as their ancestors. 3. Finding food and water Aboriginal tribes obtained water from trees and roots and even squeezed water out of the bodies of frogs. Women collected anything that grew or moved, including fruit, lizards, snakes, roots, grass, etc. Their skill in finding food even in the most extreme conditions often kept the whole group alive. 4. Hunting Large mammals, now extinct (väljasurnud), roamed some areas (hulkusid mingitel aladel) of Australia and provided (andsid) meat for the aboriginal hunters. Other areas were richer in vegetable food, but there was no organised agriculture or domesticated animals. Food therefore was not easy to obtain. Tribesmen recognized the tracks of animals and developed extraordinary skills in tracking their pray. 5. Traditions, arts and beliefs.

Essay about necessaty of zoos

environment. Not only people are trying to keep endangered species and rare animals in the nature reserves, but also the number of zoos built around the world is slowly growing. Do we actually need those kind of man-made "homes" for animals or is it better for them to live outside cement walls in their natural habitat? First of all, nowadays we need to help the nature and animals that are the ones facing quite big danger of becoming extinct. Mostly it is caused by our selfish attitude: we do not take care of nature. Zoo is one of the solutions to help to preserve nature and to protect it from poachers. For example Loxodonta africana is an African elephant who has been hunt down and whose population was significantly reduced in 20th century. The population in the Tanzanian Selous Game Reserve, once the largest of any reserve in the world, dropped from 109 000 in 1976 to 13 000 in 2013. 85 000 elephants were lost to poaching in

In America, there are very many parks, which 58 are national parks and there are hundreds of federally managed parks, forests and wilderness areas. The first national park in the world was Yellowstone national park in Wyoming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iaSlZE-Wxs&feature=related Many species became extinct soon after the first settlements. The U.S. climate is temperate in most areas, tropical in Hawaii and southern Florida, polar in Alaska, semiarid in the Great Plains, Mediterranean in coastal California and arid in the Great Basin. The droughts and floods are infrequent in America. In north Alaska was recorded the lowest temperature in U.S. -62.2 °C . The highest temperature was recorded in California in Death Valley when the temperature reached 57 °C.

The Crow Tribe

Americans who historically lived in the Yellowstone River valley. They now live on a reservation south of Billings, Montana. Tribal headquarters are located at Crow Agency, Montana. The name of the tribe, Apsáalooke was translated into French by interpreters as gens du corbeaux (people of [the] crows). It means "children of the large-beaked bird," a name given by their neighboring tribe, the Hidatsa. The bird, perhaps now extinct, was defined as a fork- tailed bird resembling the blue jay or magpie. In 1743 near present-day Hardin, Montana, the Absaroka first encountered people of European descent - the two La Vérendryes brothers from French Canada. The explorers called the Apsáalooke beaux hommes (handsome men). The Crow called the French Canadians baashchíile (persons with yellow eyes). The Crow Indian Reservation in south-central Montana is a large reservation covering

When a world loses a language it loses a unique treasure

When a world loses a language, it loses a unique treasure There are more than 7000 languages in the world and it is said that more than 50 % of the languages will be extinct by the end of the century. A language dies in every 2 weeks. So what will be lost when a language dies? Much of human knowledge hasn't been written down and it lives in people's memories. In fact, there are even laguages that haven't been written down. In the olden days people use to tell stories. They didn't write them down, just told or sang them to others, who passed them on the same way and so they spread from generation to generation. Now if a language dies, the folklore dies with it

extinction of species since the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago at rates 1000 to 10,000 times faster than normal. • The 2012 update of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species shows that of the 63,837 species examined worldwide, 19,817 are threatened with extinction - nearly a third of the total. • If present trends continue, scientists warn that within a few decades, at least half of all plant and animal species on Earth will be extinct, as a result of climate change, habitat loss, pollution, acidifying oceans, invasive species, over- exploitation of natural resources, overfishing, poaching and human overpopulation. Lower Life Expectancy in the Fastest Growing Countries • According to a Harvard study, "Over the next forty years, nearly all (97%) of the 2.3 billion projected increase will be in the less developed regions, with nearly half (49%) in Africa." Reasons why human beings are unique

closest relatives "Obviously we have similarities. We have similarities with everything else in nature; it would be astonishing if we didn't. But we've got to look at the differences," says Ian Tattersall, a paleoanthropologist at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, US. To understand these differences, a good place to start is to look at how we got here. Why are we the only human species still alive today whereas many of our early-human ancestors went extinct? Neanderthals (left) didn't fare as well as we did (Credit: SPL) Neanderthals (left) didn't fare as well as we did (Credit: SPL) Humans and chimpanzees diverged from our common ancestor more than six million years ago. Fossil evidence points to the ways which we have gradually changed. We left the trees, started walking and began to live in larger groups. And then our brains got bigger. Physically we are another primate, but our bigger brains are unusual.

own etc. And the places, where the poachers hunt these animals, should be guarded, that the poachers would be captured. Deforestation Also, deforestation is dangerous to animals. Deforestation means, when trees are often cut down, to produce furniture or something else. When the trees are cut down, animals have no place to live or hide themselves from the hunters, so many of them become extinct. Trees, including forests play an important part of the air, that we breathe, cause they produce oxygen, so the less trees and plants, the less oxygen. But there are often held planting campaigns, where people plant their own tree and during a few years, the trees are high enough, to form a new part of the forest. But still new trees will be cut down again, thankfully governments make sometimes laws to control deforestation. Some forests are

Referat

Sugar cane comes from the Pacific Islands The first was to prepare the sugar cane (saccharum officinarum). Herb, which evolved into a cane, came from the Pacific Ocean from individual smaller islands, such as Polynesia and Melanesia. Experts have identified the origin of these herbs of 10 000 - 15 000 years ago, then. The original plant was on those from the smaller islands in Indonesia, India and China about 8,000 years ago and is now extinct. Today's sugar cane can grow up to six meters in height. Sugar cane growing tropical and subtropical climates. Since sugar cane requires a lot of water and heat, it can be grown only in southern Europe, including Spain, Portugal and Madeira. The world's largest sugar cane producers are Brazil, Cuba, India, the Philippines and Mexico. How do people use sugar content of sweet before it developed modern methods for the production of sugar

nowhere else on the planet. Among these animals are kangaroos, wombats, koalas. They carry their babies in pouches. There are platypuses and tiny anteaters (echidna) too, which are the only mammals in the world that lay eggs. Among the birds are emus, lyrebirds and black swans. When a platypus specimen first reached to Europe people thought it was a fake, sewn together from bits of other animals. The platypus, the strangest of Australia’s animals, is a living reminder of ancient, extinct creatures. The best known animal that lives in Australia is the kangaroo of course. There are about 50 species of kangaroo, ranging in size from the big red kangaroo of the outback to wallabies and smaller rat-kangaroos. Kangaroos are marsupials too. Their babies develop inside their mother’s pouch. About half of Australia’s 230 mammal species are marsupials. As well as the meat-eating Tasmanian devil, possums, bandicoots and of course kangaroos, wombats and koalas. The

footwear. However, recent years have not been easy for the textile and sewing industry as it is increasingly difficult to compete with cheap producers from outside the European Union Estonian market is also being gradually flooded by cheap goods from China, India and Turkey. Mechanical engineering and motor vehicle industry have experienced a rapid development during the recent years, although the branch became nearly extinct in the early 1990s after the collapse of the Soviet military industry. The local business climate has been revived thanks to the opening of the plant of the international electronics company Elcoteq in 2000. Engineering products and equipment manufactured in Estonia range from cables, mobile phones and computers to security equipment for cars, laboratory equipment, different hoists and other equipment for different industries.

countries where it is produced, as the land and forests must be cleared for the development of the oil palm plantations. According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour to make way for palm oil production. This large-scale deforestation is pushing many species to extinction, and findings show that if nothing hanges, species like the orangutan could become extinct in the wild within the next 5-10 years, and Sumatran tigers less than 3 years. In total, 50 million tons of palm oil is produced annually, supplying over 30% of the world’s vegetable oil production. This single vegetable oil is found in approximately 40-50% of household products in countries such as United States, Canada, Australia and England. Palm oil can be present in a wide variety of products, including: baked goods, confectionery,

New Zealand - lühireferaat

throughout New Zealand. Now only around 30,000 are found on protected offshore islands. They are about 60 cm long and have a third "eye" on the top of heir heads; tuataras sleep during the winter, and they use the third eye to wake themselves up in spring. New Zealand's moa was the only wingless bird ever known. The giant moa, one of eleven species of moa, was also the tallest known, standing up to 3 metres. Maori hunted moa, and it is believed the birds became extinct around 400 years ago. A kiwi is a flightless nocturnal native bird, and the national bird of New Zealand. It is now endangered, and difficult to see in the wild. However, there are a number of `kiwi houses' at zoos and wildlife parks. While they may look cute, kiwi can be fierce and highly territorial. However, over the years, New Zealanders have become known as `Kiwis' as well. Just to confuse you, the kiwifruit is often called a `kiwi' in Europe and America.

Two types of crocodiles, the saltwater crocodile and the freshwater crocodile can be found in the north. The dingo or the native dog is not really an Australian native. It has brought from Asia around 3500 years ago. The dingo is an efficient sheep hunter. To protect sheep the dog fence was built in 1964.

It typically loiters in the water or basks in the sun through much of the day, usually preferring to hunt at night. It is, however, capable of moving with astonishing speed when required. Adult male saltwater crocodiles are typically 5 metres long, weigh around 680 kg. Females are much smaller than males, with typical female body lengths in the range of 2.53 metres. Many plant and animal species became extinct soon after human settlement, including the Australian megafauna; others have become extinct since European settlement. 7. Population There are about 20 million Australians but more than 50 per cent of the country is practically empty. Nearly all Australians live in the southeast of the continent and in the southwestern part of Western Australia. In these parts the soil and climate is suitable for farming. 50% of Australians live in the biggest

Coca-Cola roll rahvusvahelises majanduspoliitikas

places that have never been considered as profitable areas it is important that Coca- Cola does that too because there are still lot of areas with huge expanding potential like Africa. After all these are just predictions that might be overturned in the next decade but that is how the things are looking for Coca-Cola right now and only time will tell if it is true and Coca-Cola will be extinct in the future as some of the critcs say. I think it is rather far-fetched because Coca-Cola has established their position on the market so firmly that it is not possible to drop them so easily but only time will tell. References 1.
