Crime in Estonia

The trend was started by Raivo Roosna and Aleks Lepajõe who robbed the Tillander store in Helsinki in 1985. In December 2006, it was estimated that Estonian criminals were responsible for 140 robberies of jewellery and watch stores in Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden during the last three years. The value of the lost property is estimated to be 25 million Euros.[1] Today transnational Estonian organised crime is predominantly about smuggling drugs, alcohol, and other illegal or high-tax goods from Russia to Finland, Sweden, and elsewhere in the Baltic Sea. Estonia is a relatively safe country, although there are some situations, where people should be more careful crime has been increased lately. We could count different type of crimes, but most common are smuggling and robberies.

Illegal Immigration in America - essee

Americans but the truth is that immigrants are willing to work for very low wages and do jobs that the average American wouldn’t. A more convincing argument would be the rise in criminal activity caused by illegal immigrants. For example more than 60 percent of the Hispanic gangs in Southern California are made up of illegal immigrants. These gangs are involved with drug-distribution systems, murders and robberies. Another issue caused by illegal aliens is the cost for taxpayers. It has been estimated that the average immigrant without a high-school degree will cost the U.S taxpayer about $100,000. A major reason for all of these problems is that 60 percent of illegal immigrants haven’t finished high school. What can be done to fix the problem? It wouldn’t seem reasonable to just send every immigrant back to their home country. A better solution would be to punish companies who take advantage of the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants and stop them from paying

Human habitation of Australia is estimated to have begun between 42,000 and 48,000 years ago, possibly with the migration of people by land bridges and short seacrossings from what is now Southeast Asia. These first inhabitants may have been ancestors of modern Indigenous Australians. At the time of European settlement in the late 18th century, most Indigenous Australians were hunter gatherers, with a complex oral culture and spiritual values based on reverence for the land and a belief in the Dreamtime. whole. Sadly, it has taken only a century of human intervention to destroy what nature designed to last forever. The scale of human pressures on ecosystems everywhere has increased enormously in the last few decades. Since 1980 the global economy has tripled in size and the world population has increased by 30 percent. Consumption of everything on the planet has risen- at a cost to our ecosystems. In 2001, The World Resources Institute estimated that the demand for rice, wheat, and corn is expected to grow by 40% by 2020, increasing irrigation water demands by 50% or more. They further reported that the demand for wood could double by the year 2050; unfortunately, it is still the tropical forests of the world that supply the bulk of the world's demand for wood. In 1950, about 15 percent of the Earth's land surface was covered by rainforest. Today, more than half has already gone up in smoke

Greenland

Located in Arctic Ocean Also known as Grønland Kalaallit Nunaat Population 60,324 (2000 Estimate) Total area 2,175,600 square kilometres Greenland, a selfgoverning dependency of Denmark, is the largest island in the world. Greenland consists of an interior icecovered plateau surrounded by a mountainous, generally icefree rim. The interior ice cap is thickest near the centre of the island, where the maximum depth is estimated to be about 3,353 metres (11,000 feet). Underneath the ice cover are the ancient rocks of the Greenland Shield, which is geologically related to the Canadian Shield. Drainage is afforded mainly by the so called ice fjords, in which glaciers from the ice caps pass through valleys to the sea, where they form thousands of icebergs each year. The climate is extremely cold, although the south experiences a short summer.

Acid rain

Both dry and wet deposition also runs off of forests, fields, and roads and flows into lakes, rivers, and streams. As this acidic liquid flows into larger bodies of water, it is diluted but over time, acids can accrue and lower the overall pH of the body. Acid deposition also causes clay soils to release aluminum and magnesium further lowering the pH in some areas. If the pH of a lake drops below 4.8, its plants and animals risk death and it is estimated that around 50,000 lakes in the United States and Canada have a pH below normal (about 5.3 for water). Several hundred of these have a pH too low to support any aquatic life. Aside from aquatic bodies, acid deposition can significantly impact forests. As acid rain falls on trees, it can make them lose their leaves, damage their bark, and stunt their growth. By damaging these parts of the tree, it makes them vulnerable to disease, extreme weather, and insects

Wonders of the Modern World

Wonders of the modern world I think that wonders of the modern world are scientific and technological achievements, not buildings anymore, like they were believed to be in the Ancient World. In my opinion the most important so called wonder of the modern world is Internet. It's just because it is so widely used in all over the world. It makes possible to do so many things, of what humankind half a century ago couldn't even dream of. It's only a matter of time, when there will be even more interactivity between the user and the website, like for example allowing us to give instructions to the website using speech. Second wonder in modern world would be space travel. Since Neil Armstrong stepped out of his space capsule onto the surface of the moon in 1969, there have been many space probes to several different planets and even to the sun. So far, there has not been found any intelligent life in...

Gran Canaria

The island is of volcanic origin, mostly made of fissure vents. Gran Canaria is the second most populous island of the Canary Islands after Tenerife. Gran Canaria's surface area is 1,560 km² and its maximum altitude is 1,949 meters (Pico de Las Nieves). It has a round shape, with a diameter of approximately 50 km. About 80% of the volume of the island was formed during the Miocene period, between 14 and 9 million years ago. This is called the "Old Cycle" and is estimated to have lasted some 200,000 years and have emitted about 1000 km3, mostly of fissural alkali basalt. This cycle continued with the emission oftrachytes, phonolites and peralkaline rocks. This period was followed by one of erosion, which lasted some 4 million years. This island is called a "Miniature Continent" due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found, with its long golden beaches and endless dunes of white sand, its green ravines and picturesque villages

"Northern Europe’s seas. Norther Europe’s environment"

are dispersed quickly by winds and currents. Another problem that affects the marine life is excess phosphorus and nitrogen flow into the sea from towns, factories and other man-made sources which cause intense algae growth. Algal blooming consumes large amounts of dissolved oxygen and in areas with poorer water exchange the oxygen runs out and living organisms will not survive there. Also, the author points out a problem considering heavy metals which increase the water toxicity. It is estimated that about half of heavy metal inputs to the North and Baltic Seas originate as air pollutants. Heavy metals are indestructible and do not break down. When they sink to the bottom and stay strapped there, they may become toxic to the organisms in the area and also, for people, birds and animals who eat the contaminated water organisms. Last but not least, oil and oil products are also playing a big role in marine pollution. In

We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children

pollution. Clean air and water are the most valuable resources, but they are getting more and more polluted. For example the air in China is so polluted that people need to wear masks. The pollution of water kills hundreds of thousands of water animals and birds. Some of the big companies have accepted the problem and are taking action. For example McDonald`s and Burger King are not using plastic straws anymore. Second thing that affects the life on Earth is overpopulation. The estimated population in 2050 is near 10 billion. Population growth also raises overconsumption. People are encouraged to consume by companies and their commercials. The problem is that humans are consuming more than the Earth can regenerate. The exhaustible resources are running out. And with the population growing, it will become an even bigger probleem. This means people in the future may not have enough resources, because right now humans are using too much. Another huge problem is global warming

Tambora vulkaan

Tamborale kuulub küll ajaloolise aja võimsaima vulkaanipurske au, kuid kindlasti pole see nii Maa ajaloos. Tambora ei kuulu nö supervulkaanide hulka, millised paiskavad tegutsema asudes atmosfääri sellised koguses tuhka ja vulkaanilisi gaase, et sel on Maa kliimale väga suur ja pikaaegne mõju. 6.This detailed astronaut photograph depicts the summit caldera of the volcano. The huge caldera is 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) in diameter and 1,100 meters (3,609 feet) deep. It formed when Tambora's estimated 4,000-meter- (13,123-foot) high peak was removed, and the magma chamber below emptied during the April 10 eruption. Today the crater floor is occupied by an ephemeral freshwater lake, recent sedimentary deposits, and minor lava flows and domes from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Layered tephra deposits are visible along the northwestern crater rim. Active fumaroles, or steam vents, still exist in the caldera. Archaeology: Pompeii of the East 7

The Life of Indigenous Australian Children.

Aboriginal children would cover their fair-skinned children with black clay; hide them in trees, behind sand dunes, or in hollow logs. Families were moving constantly, to keep one step ahead of "welfare." Some families said that they were Italian, Maori, or Greek, leaving their true identity to themselves to escape the strict control of the white "protector." The removal of these children from their families affected more than just a few people. In New South Wales, the government estimated that, in New South Wales alone, there were at least 8,000 Aboriginal children who had been taken away from their families between 1885 and 1996. Aboriginal children were often taken for being "neglected." The missions and reserves were often the places where the Aborigines would eventually die off. The children in the institutions were the most neglected children in Australia. Many had to sleep in dormitories with about nineteen to twenty-five other girls in each of dormitory. If any

Sea. Its neighbor countries are to the south Latvia, to the east Russia, to the north and over the Gulf of Finland, Finland and to the west and over the Baltic Sea, Sweden. Most of the lowland areas are in the middle of Estonia. Average elevation reaches only 50 meters and the country's highest point is the Suur Munamägi in the southeast at 318 meters. There is 3,794 kilometers of coastline marked by numerous bays, straits, and inlets. The number of islands and islets is estimated at some 1,500. Two of them are large enough to constitute separate counties: Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. A small, recent cluster of meteorite craters, the largest of which is called Kaali is found on Saaremaa, Estonia. Estonia has over 1,400 lakes. Most are very small, with the largest, Lake Peipus, (Peipsi in Estonian) being 3,555 km2. There are many rivers in the country. The longest of them are Võhandu (162 km), Pärnu (144 km), and Põltsamaa (135 km). Estonia has numerous fens and bogs.
