Chapter 1
In June 1751 David Balfour (peategelane) left his fathers house in Essendean for the last time. Mr
Campbell (peategelase sõber) was waiting for him.
Mr Campbell asked: ,,Are you sorry to leave Essendean?"
David replied: ,,I don´t know, sir, because I don´t know where i´m going or what will happen to
me. I´ve been very happy in Essendean but I´ve never been anywhere else. My mother and father
are dead now and I´m going to find my future."
Mr Campbell told David that his father has given him a letter before he died. It was his
inheritance. David´s father wanted him to go to the House of Shaws, near Edinburgh. David was
surprised, because he didn´t know anything about the House of Shaws. Mr Campbell said goodbye
and David started to go to the House of Shaws.
