Endangered Animals

Every year, more and more animals are facing extinction. In order to protect endangered species, what can we about this problem? One way of solving the problem is to protect wildlife habitats as the best way to protect endangered species is to protect the places they live in. In addition to this, wildlife must have a place to find food and shelter from the weather. Logging, oil and gas drilling, over-grazing and real estate development have all resulted in the destruction of these habitats, which must be minimized as much as possible. Another way to solve the problem is to stop buying products that are made from animal skin. The lack of demand would result in hunters being unable to continue their business.

Endangered species The Giant Panda lives in central-western and southwesterns China. Although the panda is a carnivore, he has a diet which is 99% bamboo. Like most subtropical mammals, but unlike most bears, the giant panda does not hibernate. The Giant Panda is endangered as there are only 2,000-3,000 of them living in the wild and about 270 living in captivity. They have become endangered due to the destruction of their habitat and the variety of bamboo that is decreasing. They are also illegally hunted for their fur. To protect them, there have been many special wildlife parks set up. Elephants live in Central Africa and are the largest land animals alive today. They eat grass, twigs and some fruit. In many Asian countries elephants are symbols of wisdom and are famed for their memory and high intelligence. Once numbering in the millions,

Description of an animal

The koala has large, sharp claws to assist with climing tree trunks. The koala is one of the few mammals that have fingerprints. Koalas do not live in big groups, they rather prefer to be alone. Koalas consume eucalyptus leaves and bark from 12 different eucalyptus tree species. Koalas rests motionless for about 16 to 18 hours a day, sleeping most of that time. They can be aggressive towards each other, throwing a foreleg around their opponent and biting. Koalas have become endangered because their habitat is being destroyed. Besides having no living place, it has lost its source of food. As the Koala is an very fussy eater and almost only eats eucalyptus leaves, it has a limited supply of food choice. The Australian Koala Foundation is the main organisation dedicated to `'saving the koala''. Their mission is to provide the long-term conservation of koalas and their "home range", and to minimise current and future threats to koalas living in the wild.

BROWN BEAR • The brown bear, the most widely distributed bear species in the world, was named a species of "least concern"—meaning the bears are not threatened with extinction. • The grizzly, a subspecies of the brown bear, has successfully rebounded in parts of the United States, thanks to U.S. Endangered Species Act protection. • Human settlements near brown bear habitats are increasingly becoming "mortality sinks" where the animals are poached or inadvertently (tahtmatult) killed. 8. THE AMERICAN BLACK BEAR • Thriving in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, this is the only bear species considered secure throughout its range. • An enormous amount of effort and funding for conservation and management continue to be directed at bears in North America, where

Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans life

Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans' life In the nature of humankind it is natural to hunt animals. However, nowadays hunting endangered species will make humans be just killers, because it is not necessary to kill something just to have a trophy on the wall at home. People can be proud of what they have done, but decreasing the population of a species largely will cause the specific animal breed to go extinct faster than it would happen via natural causes. Therefore, humans should stop hunting endangered species to slow down their extinction, as these species

Inglise keele report: Animals in danger of extinction

Subject: Animals in danger of extinction Date: 20.04.11 The aim of this report is to make an overview of the status of wild animals in the world. The report is based on up-to-date statistics related to the topic. There are several disappointing facts and figures. a) Over the last couple of years the list of animals in danger of extinction has grown rapidly. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has calculated the percentage of endangered animals as 40 percent of all organisms. Recent research indicates that 70% of the world's most threatened mammal species are currently receiving little or no conservation attention. On 29 January 2010, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species identified 842 extinct species and subspecies. b) The rarest animal on Earth today is the Pinta Island Tortoise (originating from the Galapagos Islands) , which is critically endangered, since there is only

Why endangered The cheetahs are hunted for their beautiful skin. There are only 9000 12000 cheetahs left. Intresting facts The cheetahs can run 120 km/h, but only in short distance (460m), because the cheetah's body temperature becomes so high that it would be deadly to continue. The cheetahs can accelerate from 0 to 110 km/h in three seconds, faster than most supercars.

Environment

I'd like to present the main issues of our planet and today i'll name 5 of them. These are air pollution, water pollution, endangered animals, deforestation and rubbish. Air pollution Firstly, lets talk about air pollution, which endangeres our life in cities and also the forests near by. Cars and factories blow poisoned gas in the air and it mixes with the oxygen, so the air that we breathe, becomes dangerous to our health. The ozone layer around the Earth, there is a special type of oxygen called ,,ozone"

There are not enough fresh water in some parts of the world. Fossil fuels are used too much and most of its reserves will be used up by 2050. Endangered species 40 percent of all organisms are endangered All the different species are important for biodiversity Habitat loss and hunting are the most widespread cause of species endangerment . Climate change Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather over periods of time. The Earth's average surface temperature has risen by 0.76° C since 1850. the fight over the throne of England was in the highest point. Of course a major problem was the religion. Elizabeth was a protestant but Mary, the queen of England believed truly in the catholic church. Mary unfortunately died and Elizabeth became the next queen of England. There remained some lords and members of the council who were not loyal to Elizabeth. Many of them wanted to see her dead, but she managed to be alive. The throne was still in endangered by Mary Stuart but the queen moved fast and let Mary killed. Elizabeth was living a hard life because she had to stand for the people of England and make many important decisions. She had good mind for being a queen and she was able to improve the position of England in the world despite the fact that she sacrificed her life for it. She had to do the things she did because it was for her own safety and England

Should Cloning Be Banned ? essee

Since then it has become part of real life and the subject of public debate. For some people, human cloning is acceptable in medicine in spite of the criticism that it is repulsive. Firstly, cloning the organs can save many lives. For example when a person needs an organ and can not find a donor, doctors could just give her the cloned organ. People would not need to donate their organs anymore. Secondly, parents who can not have children may wish to clone a child for themselves. Also endangered animal or plants could be cloned to rise their species. On the other hand, there are also many arguments againts cloning. Most cloned animals suffer severe medical issues and many die prematurely. The same problems would happen in human cloning and many scientists consider human cloning to be dangerous and irresponsible. Scientist have no idea of the long-time effects of genetic engineering. All things considered, I'm against human cloning, whereas i do not mind the

Rare animals Rare Chinese tiger seen in the wild Researchers have confirmed that a wild tiger, photographed by a farmer in the Qinba Mountains of Shaanxi Province, Central China, is indeed that of the critically endangered South China tiger. The South China tiger classified as one of only five subspecies of tiger still alive today is extremely rare, with only an estimated 20 to 30 still remaining in the wild. The wildlife and conservation group WWF says the South China tiger is actually native to the Hainan most forests of south-east China, and because there are so few individuals left, it is regarded by many scientists as being "functionally extinct" in the wild. It has strong jaw muscles and teeth for eating tough bamboo. Giant pandas are generally solitary. Each adult has a defined territory and female pandas do not tolerate each other. Pandas are known to attack humans, but rather out of irritation than aggression. Pandas are endangered species, threatened by continued habitat loss and by a very low birthrate. The population boom in China created stress on the panda's habitat and it led to hunting of wildlife, including pandas. Due to conservation efforts, in 2006, there were 40 panda reserves in China, compared to just 13 reserves two decades ago. Chinchillas

Average males weight 369493 g and females weigh 379450 g. The Chinchilla lanigera species, though rare, can be found in the wild. Domestic chinchillas are thought to come from the lanigera species. General info General color of upper parts is bluish or silvery gray, underparts are yellowish white. They can be also white. They mostly live in colder climates for which they are well adapted because of their dense fur. They are critically endangered. Chinchillas have a variety of defensive tactics including spraying urine and releasing fur if bitten. They mostly feed upon vegetation. In nature, chinchillas live in social groups that resemble colonies but are properly called herds. Chinchillas can breed any time of the year. Due to this long pregnancy, chinchillas are born fully furred and with eyes open. Litters are usually small in number, predominately twins.

Tallinn Town Hall Square and Town Hall

The original Gothic pyramidal spire was replaced by a Late- Renaissance spire in 1627. The height of the Town Hall from the bottom of the arcade to the top of the spire is 64 meters. The spire was destroyed in an aerial bombing on March 9, 1944. It was rebuilt in 1952. Tallinn Town Council used to have its own guards, who maintained order in town and watched for possible enemy troops or destructive fire from the tower. When something endangered the city, an alarm bell in the belfry was rung. The square Throughout the centuries, the Town Hall Square has been used as a market square and gathering place. The square in front of the Town Hall was used for trading even before the Town Hall was built. Celebrations as well as executions were carried out on the square. Tundra loomad

make a migrating herd a noisy bunch indeed. Females will give birth to a single calf. Most females don't breed until they are 28 months old, and will give birth every year. Newborns can walk within an hour and in a few days can run with the herd. Still, wolves, grizzly bears, and golden eagles kill a large number of newborn calves. Although some people are moving into their habitat, they seem to have adapted. Reindeer is not endangered, thanks to its ability to tolerate climates people would rather not deal with. Snowshoe rabbit It is larger than other rabbits. It has large rear feet and the toes can spread out to act like snowshoes. Their feet also have fur on the bottom, which protects them from the cold and gives them traction in the snow. In the summer its fur is rusty, greyish brown but is turns pure white in the winter, except for its eyelids and the tips of their ears.

The California Floristic Province hotspot

The California Floristic Province is a zone of Mediterranean-type climate and has the high levels of plant endemism characteristic of these regions. The hotspot is home to the giant sequoia, the planet's largest living organism and its taller but less massive relative, the coastal redwood. This region also holds a number of threatened endemic species such as the giant kangaroo rat and the desert slender salamander, and some of the last individuals of the Critically Endangered California condor can still be found here. In fact, it is the largest avian breeding ground in the United States. Wilderness destruction caused by commercial farming is a major threat for the region as the California Floristic Province generates half of all the agricultural products used by U.S. consumers. The hotspot is also heavily threatened by the expansion of urban areas, pollution, and road construction. The California Floristic Province hotspot extend over 293.800 square kilometers. 108

Whale

migrate together, and share care of their young. Baleen whales usually travel alone or in small pods. These enormous animals eat about 4 tons of tiny krill each day, obtained by filter feeding through baleen. Adult blue whales have no predators except man. Their food ranges from microscopic plankton to very large animals. Some whale species like Orchas ( who are called ,, killer whales") may eat their friends, family- other whales. Some species of large whales are listed as endangered, because of the hunters. They have been hunted commercially for whale oil, meat and baleen since the 17th century. Current whaling nations are Norway, Iceland and Japan and the aboriginal communities of Siberia, Alaska and northern Canada. In the 1900's , over 2 million whales were slaughtered. Many environmental organisations are working hard now to preserve and propagate the valuable whales we have remaining in waters all over the world.

stimulant and sedative, depression, epilepsy, headache, hysteria muscle spasms, "nervous depression" by stomach disorders, nervousness and sharp- stabbing pains. However the preferred species for use are C.caceolus and C.acaule, used as topical applications or tea. Protection Lady's slipper (orchid), with the largest flowers of all European orchid species, is placed under protection by law everywhere. Pink Lady's Slipper is endangered in some areas because they take a long time to grow, and because people collect them. Also, since Pink Lady's Slippers cannot grow without the Rhizoctonia fungus, the plants people collect usually die anyway. There are significant efforts to protect Pink Lady's Slippers, and in most places it is now illegal to remove them from their habitat. Thanks for listening! :)

Essay about Chinese language taking over English

thought it was interesting enough. Then Graddol writes about importance of language and how it should be assessed. He discusses whether it should be the number of speakers, their social status or even wealth and whether the number of speakers of Putonghua should include only native speakers, which is 1.3 billion people, or should they take other dialects into consideration too. Furthermore, Graddol brings an example from Guangzhou and their local language Cantonese which is endangered by Putonghua. Many people protest about using too much Putonghua, but the students believe that in Hong Kong, the problem is mostly in official signs wrote in Putonghua. He also points out that one of his students said that Putonghua is gaining power instead of English. The writer then highlights the fact that English is envied by many other language speakers in Europe, for example the French. It is envied for its liberal attitude to different variations in English.

ELURIKKUSE KADUMINE esitlus

ELURIKKUSE KADUMINE Laura-Liis Sander Janeli Rammo 10c ELURIKKUS Bioloogilise mitmekesisuse ehk elurikkuse moodustavad taime- ja loomaliigid ning muud eluslooduse vormid ja nende elupaigad. Bioloogiline mitmekesisus hõlmab geneetilist, liigilist ja ökosüsteemide mitmekesisust, mis on üheskoos elu aluseks Maal. Elurikkus on miljonite aastate evolutsiooni vili, mida on muutnud looduslikud protsessid ning üha rohkem ka inimesed. Elurikkus moodustab keerulise ja omavahel tihedalt seotud võrgustiku, millest meie oleme vaid osake ning millest me täielikult sõltume. Elurikkuse kadumine Kogu maakera mõjutab elurikkuse kadumine, mille põhjused lähtuvad inimtegevusest: elupaikade hävitamine, bioloogiliste loodusvarade ületarbimine, mitmesugused reostused, kliimamuutus ja võõrliigid. Elurikkuse kadumine Üha rohkem liike on sattunud väljasuremisohtu ning veel mõni aastakümmet tagasi tavalised liigid on ühtäkki muutunud haruldasteks. Näiteks kuna...
