How butterflies find food? Instead of eating, butterflies get their nurishment from drinking. They have a long narrow tube in their mouth. They usually set on top of a flower and drink the nectar. Why are they important for the environment? Butterflies are important for pollination and natural pest control. Butterflies are an important element of the food chain and are prey for birds, bats and other animals. Butterflies&bees Butterflies and bees suffering from enviromental pressures like drought and habitat loss How can we protect butterflies? In 2050, according to estimates, there will be nine billion mouths to feed around the world who will demand high quality, nutritious food. On nowdays, we already have problem with lack of food, despite we have only 6 billion mouths to feed. So scientists had to do something. They started to develop GM food. Farmers thought, that GM food is not good enough but when they tested it, they were satisfied. GM food is more resistant to diseases, drought, and other forces of nature and it tastes good. Already, there are a lot of farmers, mostly in developing countries who are using genetically enhanced plants. However, there are still problems with productivity, because it is too low. There is also a chance that there are people who don't want to eat GM food. The EU is standing for their rights. The EU demands that enhanced products must be with special labels which must clearly notify that it is a GM product
They communicate by touch, sight, and sound; elephants use infrasound, and seismic communication over long distances. I choosed that animal becose I love this animal and it's so big and strong. MORE INTERESTING ABOUT THIS ANIMAL : Because of their large size, elephants have a huge impact on their environments and are considered keystone species. Their habit of uprooting trees and undergrowth can transform savannah into grasslands; when they dig for water during drought, they create waterholes that can be used by other animals.

Frequent burning of maquis results in depauperate vegetation dominated by Kermes oak ( Quercus coccifera), Cistus spp. or Sarcopoterium spinosum, all of which regenerate rapidly after fire by sprouting or mass germination. Shrublands, including maquis and the aromatic, soft-leaved and drought phrygana of Rosmarinus, Salvia, and Thymus, persist in the semi-arid, lowland, and coastal regions of the Basin.

Water Imagine, it is a hot summer’s day, you are walking down the street, the sun is burning your skin, you have been walking quite a while now and suddenly, you feel you are thirsty. So what would you do …. Probably you go to the nearest store down the street and buy a bottle of water; a bubbly water, a vitamin water, a water from the fridge, there is so many variety of waters and still you have something to complain about how the water is to expensive how the day is too hot, how the water is too cold . And now imagine… imagine the people, who live in African deserts, imagine feeling thirsty and not having any water at all, not around you, not anywhere. People who live there they have to make long journeys or treks over rough and barren land to get water and when they finally reach to that hole in the ground, then that water there isn’t even clean. It takes so much time and energy, just ...

There's no doubt that these large monopolies have a great deal of power. If we let them finance important developments such as digital television, you can be sure that they'll market technical devices which can only receive their own TV broadcasts. Well, there's no doubt that a proper understanding of their problems is needed before we can go much further. Surely, there are immediate things like food aid to countries hit by drought or famine Surely, most of these resorts would have bus services. Surely, there's more to marriage than having children. 4.4 Expressing high probability I expect that Japan could adapt. It has a highly skilled workforce and a good technological base. I believe you've been working on a transport policy for Britain. I doubt whether they could act as an effective deterrent while the detection rate is so low.

After a period of steady growth from 1985 to 1995, real GDP (gross domestic product) decreased by 1.8% and 2.4% in 1996 and 1997, respectively. The decrease in GDP in 1996 and 1997 was largely due to significant problems in the financial sector and, in 1997, a severe island-wide drought (the worst in 70 years) that drastically reduced agricultural production. In 1997, nominal GDP was approximately J$220,556.2 million (US$6,198.9 million based on the average annual exchange rate of the period). Fishing boats and bauxite cargo ships share the waterways near Alligator Pond, Jamaica The economy in 1997 was marked by low levels of import growth, high levels of private capital inflows and relative stability in the foreign exchange market.

higher ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids than oil produced in southern latitudes. Sunflower is an inefficient user of water, as measured by the amount of water transpired per gram of plant above-ground dry matter. Levels were 577 (g H2O/g DM) for sunflower, 349 for corn, 304 for sorghum in an Akron, Colorado study. It is similar to wheat, soybean, fieldbean, oat, and rape in that respect. Efficiency is measured at an optimum moisture level and is not a measure of drought resistance. Sunflower is not considered highly drought tolerant, but often produces satisfactory results when other crops are damaged during drought. Its extensively branched taproot, penetrating to 6.5 ft, aids the plant during water stress. A critical time for water stress is the period 20 days before and 20 days after flowering. If stress is likely during this period, irrigation will increase yield, oil percentage and test weight, but decrease protein percentage. B. Soil:

two thirds of the country the climate is temperate to cool. Winter temperatures can be lower but not freezing. There are four seasons. The seasons are opposite of our seasons. When we have summer in Australia there is winter. In Australia droughts and floods are very usual the draught is caused by El Nino, a weather pattern which happened when the southern Pacific ocean heats up this causes the wind direction to reverse. An El Nino occurs every four years, causing draught and bushfires. Drought are followed by floods. States and Territories The states are: 1) South Australia its capital city is Adelaide and most of it is dry desert land. Its huge industry is motor vehicle industry. It is very warm and some people live in the town of Coober Pedy that lies underground to get protection from the heat. Many opals are found and mines in South Australia. 2) New South Wales its capital city is Sydney and it has a total land
Oil and natural gas have been found in western and southern Australia. Australia has a wide range of industries. Most of them are located in Australia's largest cities which are also ports. Australia produces chemicals, machinnery, motor vehicles, electronic equiptment, paper, textiles, household appliances and many other things. Most of the land has proved to be good for wheat. Wheat is grown in the Murray River basin and near Perth. New types of wheat that resist drought have been developed. The land is also good for sugarcane and fruit orchards. Citruses, sugarcane and cotton are grown. In Queensland they grow bananas; furter south, where it is less hot, apples are grown. And in recent years Australia has been making very good wine, too. In Tasmania there are apple orchards and dairy farms. Sheep have been important since the earliest days. Most Australian sheep are Spanish merinos, which were first bought there in 1797

is usually some water remaining in Lake Eyre, Rivers The Darling River is the longest river in Australia, flowing 2,739km from northern New South Wales to its confluence with the Murray River at Wentworth, New South Wales. (Some geographers treat the Darling and the lower Murray as a single river, 3,000km long. This is largely a matter of semantics). Today the Darling is in poor health, suffering from overuse of its waters, pollution from pesticide runoff and prolonged drought, possibly the result of manmade global warming. In some years it barely flows at all. The river has a high salt content and declining water quality Deserts Deserts of Australia cover a large portion of the land in Australia. Most of the deserts lie in the central and northwestern part of the country. The Great Victoria Desert is a barren, arid and sparsely populated desert ecoregion in southern Australia. It falls inside the states of South Australia and Western Australia
5. Climate Due to its large size and wide range of geographic features, the United States contains examples of nearly every global climate. The climate is temperate in most areas, tropical in Hawaii and southern Florida, polar in Alaska, semiarid in the Great Plains west of the 100 th meridian, Mediterranean in coastal California and arid in the Great Basins. Its comparatively generous climate contributed (in part) to the country's rise as a world power, with infrequent severe drought in the major agricultural regions, a general lack of widespread flooding, and a mainly temperate climate that receives adequate precipitation. 6. Animals, plants, agriculture Animals The moose ranges throughout the northern US. In the eastern forests live elks, black bears, deer, foxes, raccoons, skunks and squirrels. Along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico live large and more colorful birds such as pelicans and flamingos. Alligators can also be found there. Bison (buffalo)
African birds, while continental Portugal mostly encounters European and African bird species. There are over 100 varieties of freshwater fish species, varying from the giant European catfish (in the Tagus International Natural Park) to some small and endemic species that live only in small lakes (along the western lakes for example). Some of these rare and specific species are highly endangered because of habitat loss, pollution and drought. Upwelling along the west coast of Portugal makes the sea extremely rich in nutrients and diverse species of marine fish; the Portuguese marine waters are one of the richest in the world. Marine fish species are more common, and include thousands of species, such as the sardine (Sardina pilchardus), tuna and Atlantic mackerel. Bioluminescent species are also well represented (including species in different colour spectrum and forms), like the glowing plankton that are

sort, they can be remarkably long-lived. I know of no better illustration of the way reciprocal obligations can reach long and powerfully into the future than the per- plexing story of $5,000 of relief aid that was exchanged between Mexico and Ethiopia. In 1985, Ethiopia could justly lay claim to the greatest suffering and pri- vation in the world. Its economy was in ruin. Its food supply had been ravaged by years of drought and internal war. Its inhabitants were dying by the thousands from disease and starvation. Under these circumstances, I would not have been surprised to learn of a $5,000 relief donation from Mexico to that wrenchingly needy country. I remember my feeling of amazement, though, when a brief news- paper item I was reading insisted that the aid had gone in the opposite direction. Native officials of the Ethiopian Red Cross had decided to send the money to help
found myself at a certain passage in the j o u r n e y of m y life, hiking alone in the forest near Big Sur, California. I was in a dark wood, all right, and lost. I was cold, hun gry, shivering, exhausted, a n d panicked by the thought of night closing in. It had been a rainy winter, with storm after storm saturating the hillsides after years of drought. I felt pounded by heavy weather in my own life, and had come north to the sacred country of Big Sur to find some things I had lost: solitude, peace of mind, clarity. I felt I had failed in important areas of jobs and relationships and was confused about which way to move next. I had some decisions to make about my direction and knew instinctively that a plunge into the wilderness could give me a vision of the future to lead me out of my present confusion.
