CRITISIM ABOUT IMF AND WORLD BANK

World has so many organizations controlling countries economics like WTO, The European Union, OPEC, NAFTA, ASEAN, APEC, MERCOSUR, CEEAC, IMF, World Bank and so on. Nowadays because of globalization there are large corporations like Apple, Gazprom and Allianz who rules the world and control the economic outcome with big organizations that are roled by influencial countries like China and USA. This essay is about criticism to IMF and World Bank. Critics of the World Bank and the IMF are concerned about the ‘conditionalities’ imposed on borrower countries. Often the conditionalities are attached without due regard for the borrower countries’ individual circumstances and the prescriptive recommendations by the World Bank and IMF fail to resolve the economic problems within the countries. As a example author is using Ecuador that is a small country in South America. In 1968- 1998 IMF and World Bank interviened

a student magazine. Milne's work came to the attention of the leading British humour magazine Punch, where Milne was to become a contributor and later an assistant editor. Milne joined the British Army in World War I and served as an officer in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and later, after a debilitating illness, the Royal Corps of Signals. After the war, he wrote a denunciation of war titled Peace with Honour (1934). During World War II, Milne was one of the most prominent critics of English writer P. G. Wodehouse. Milne accused Wodehouse of committing an act of near treason by cooperating with his country's enemy. He married Dorothy "Daphne" de Sélincourt in 1913, and their only son, Christopher Robin Milne, was born in 1920. In 1925, A. A. Milne bought a country home, Cotchford Farm, in Hartfield, East Sussex. He retired to the farm after a stroke and brain surgery in 1952 left him an invalid, and by August 1953 "he seemed very old and disenchanted"

Jane Austen "Pride and prejudice"

Jane Austen "Pride and prejudice" "Pride and prejudice" is a widely beloved novel because it makes people laugh and think. It was first published in 1813 and since then it has been truly loved novel for younger and older people. As well as that, the critics liked it too. So it's not only publics favourite but also smarter people love it. I think that the main reason so many like it, is because it's unpredictable and understable. In addition it's not very difficult to read. But I had to read the novel from laptop and that made my eyes hurt, so that really didn't work for me. Novel has been classified as a classic love story. That is one big reason why I loved this book. I love those classic love stories, that are just so good and

Essey: Capital Punishment

Capital Punishment The adherents of the death penalty refer to public safety. Still, even though violent criminals are locked away from the society forever, there is also another possibility for the inmate to escape the full punishment. However proving whether one is guilty or not is a very complicated and time-consuming process. From an ethical perspective, the death penalty is, undoubtedly, a violation of human rights. Most death penalty critics charge that it is particularly barbaric when applied to mentally retarded people and juvenile delinquents. In this case, capital punishment looks like senseless cruelty. A number of states had already passed legislation adopted by the Supreme Court in June 2002 prohibiting such executions to this group of people. As for juvenile delinquents, we should admit their lack of maturity thus they may be less culpable than adults who commit crimes

Monopolistic competition

The business-stealing externality: · Because other firms lose customers and profits from the entry of a new competitor, entry of a new firm imposes a negative externality on existing firms. Advertising When firms sell differentiated products and charge prices above marginal cost, each firm has an incentive to advertise in order to attract more buyers to its particular product. · Critics of advertising argue that firms advertise in order to manipulate people's tastes. They also argue that it impedes competition by implying that products are more different than they truly are. · Defenders argue that advertising provides information to consumers They also argue that advertising increases competition by offering a greater variety of products and prices. · The willingness of a firm to spend advertising dollars can be a signal to consumers about

A Movie Review of Moliere

A Movie Review of "Moliere" In 2007, a wonderful surprise "Moliere", enchanted the romantics and critics all over Europe. An historical love story, surrounded by affairs and intrigues, now retold in new colours, gained popularity amongst young and elderly, connecting those who prefer theatre, good humour and a little bit of sadness. It can be said that the play of the actors was one of the most successful challenges performed in front of the camera. They lived in the seventeenth century, talking and feeling everything as naturally as if they had been born around that time. The humour

However, RKO executives used her to boost box office potential of the Fritz Lang production Clash by Night. After the film performed well, Fox employed a similar tactic, and she was cast as the ditzy receptionist with Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers in Howard Hawks's slapstick comedy Monkey Business. Critics no longer ignored her, and both films' success at the box office was partly attributed to Monroe's growing popularity. Fox finally gave her a starring role in 1952 with Don't Bother to Knock, in which she portrayed a deranged babysitter who attacks the little girl in her care. It was a cheaply made B-movie, and although the reviews were mixed, they claimed it demonstrated Monroe's ability and confirmed she was ready for more leading roles. Her performance has been noted as one of her finest

The King’s Speech

I was impressed by the film and based on my personal emotions I dare to recommend this film also to those who normally do not go for historical films or dramas. I suggest it because it gives insight into the royal life of 20th century England through the story which cannot keep anyone indifferent. For those who do not trust my view, I would like to add that the film has also nominated for Oscars in 12 categories which is more than any film before - and believing forecasts by the film critics it will certainly get at least one golden man. Thus worth to see anyway!

I mean the way when you make a song within a day, sell it for billions of dollars and all this ,,very hard work" just to get on the red carpet and live a fancy life. It is really annoying and disturbing, I compare it with throwing litter on the street. It just isn't the right place for it. Same thing is with modern art and critics nowdays. To my mind, both are often really fake and doesn't express their own feelings, but the thoughts and needs what the public is hoping to get. Satire in Lilliput

Gulliver's urination on the palace offended the Lilliputians and thought that they where insignificant. Even though Gulliver's urination intends to prevent a disaster, it also gives Gulliver the ability to control the Lilliputians in any way he likes. Swift uses this sequence of problems to show a personal issue in his life. Swift's urination scene parody's his own life giving him a satire within a satire. By pointing this out in the story, he mocks his critics. Swift further illustrates satire by comparing English government to Lilliput. In the early eighteenth century, the English government was under the Whig's political party. Swift represented himself as Gulliver as being a Tory, and the Lilliputians as being powerhungry Whigs. Their heels of their shoes identified these parties. In Lilliput the HighHeels represented the Tories and the LowHeels represented the Whigs. George I favoured the Whigs, so the Lilliputian emperor favoured the Low

The Catcher in the Rye

Next day Holden calls his former English teacher, Mr. Antolini, who tells Holden he can come to his apartment. The teacher asks Holden what does he want from his life and tries to give good advice to the boy. In the evening Holden returns to see Phoebe and takes her to a amusing park. Watching his sister riding on a carousel laughing brings out Holdens tears, and almost causes him a nervous breakdown. The story ends with Holden talking to a psychiatrist, who tries to ,,open him up". Although, critics have chewed on it for a long time, it was an interesting book, writen in a colloquial style, which really fits for younger people to read. Thatswhy I would reccomend ,,The Catcher in the Rye" to people my age. Andreas Kahk 10.ac

Shakespeare/Poems and Sonnets

Influenced by Ovid's Metamorphoses, the poems show the guilt and moral confusion that result from uncontrolled lust.[ Both proved popular and were often reprinted during Shakespeare's lifetime. A third narrative poem, A Lover's Complaint, in which a young woman laments her seduction by a persuasive suitor, was printed in the first edition of the Sonnets in 1609. Most scholars now accept that Shakespeare wrote A Lover's Complaint. Critics consider that its fine qualities are marred by leaden effects. The Phoenix and the Turtle, printed in Robert Chester's 1601 Love's Martyr, mourns the deaths of the legendary phoenix and his lover, the faithful turtle dove. In 1599, two early drafts of sonnets 138 and 144 appeared in The Passionate Pilgrim, published under Shakespeare's name but without his permission. SONNETS ·

Fiedler, tend to fall into one of two categories: overly dominant shrews, like Lady Brett in The Sun Also Rises, and overly submissive confections, like Catherine Barkley in A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway, Fiedler maintains, was at his best dealing with men without women; when he started to involve female characters in his writing, he reverted to uncomplicated stereotypes. A Farewell to Arms certainly supports such a

were buried in Poets' Corner, part of the South Transept of Westminster Abbey, where many distinguished literary people are buried or commemorated. Despite changes in racial attitudes and literary standards for poetry, Kipling's poetry continues to be popular with those who see it as "vigorous and adept" rather than "jingling". In modern-day India, whence he drew much of his material, his reputation remains controversial, especially amongst modern Hindu nationalists and some post-colonial critics. In November 2007, it was announced that his birthplace in the campus of the J J School of Art in Mumbai will be turned into a museum celebrating the author and his works. Kipling's stories for adults also remain in print and have garnered high praise from writers as different as Poul Anderson, Jorge Luis Borges, and George Orwell. Nonetheless, Kipling is most highly regarded for his children's books. His Jungle Books have been made into several movies; the first was made by producer Alexander

Motivation

Personal statement ,,Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage." - Ralph Waldo Emerson This quato, mentioned before, gives me confidence to do great things myself in life and pursue them into bigger ones one day ahead. In these moments i like to remember what Napoleon Hill once said: ,,If you can´t do great things, do small things in a great way." The things is, that everyone has to start somewhere, to find their own way in this life-that is the

The Origins of American Literature

Irving's early works were very heavily influenced by neo-classical satirists such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift. After he met Sir Walter Scott and became familiar with imaginative German lit, a new romantic note became evident in works such as The Sketch Book (1819-1820), which includes Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Bracebridge Hall (1822). Irving was the first Am writer to win the respect of British lit critics. (also the first internationally famous author from the USA) James Fenimore Cooper was perhaps the most popular writer of the period. He drew inspiration for his five volume series of Leatherstocking Tales (1823-1841) from Walter Scott's Waverley novels. The tales, which include The Last of the Mohicans, recount the adventures of the great frontiersman Natty Bumppo, nicknamed `Leatherstocking'. Cooper shows great skill in weaving history into the exciting plots and

Osades mängisid D'Artagnan Sergei Upkin, Athos Jegor Zdor, Porthos Aleksandr Prigorovski, Aramis Andrei Mihnevits, Constance Eve Andre, Leedi Winter Marika Muiste, Kuninganna Anna Nanae Maruyama ja paljud teised. Women writer's influence on our society

She isn't really famous poet in Estonia, but I chose her because when you read her poems you can really feel the pain she has been through. Her poems influenced lots of people with their fresh style and deep and painful content. These made people think about depths of life. Next writer I am going to talk about is Elisabeth Aspe. She lived in 1860-1927. She was an early realist, back at that time most people wrote about different things. Critics have said that her works were very interesting in many different ways. Her first well-known novel was Stepsister, it's a story about an orphan girl's fate. She describes beginning of the urbanization process a lot. Also, she was one of the first woman writers in Estonia. She wrote about city a lot. You would think that it's just a city, but actually for her it was so much more. For her it was a future vision and she used to word city in more ways than you could ever imagine

The Relations Between The USA and Iraq

and outside of the United States, many U.S. citizens found parallels with the Vietnam War. According to the Center for Public Integrity, the Bush administration made a total of 935 false statements between 2001 and 2003 about Iraq's possible threat to the United States. Both proponents and opponents of the invasion criticized the prosecution of the war effort along a number of other lines. Most significantly, critics have assaulted the U.S. and its allies for not devoting enough troops to the mission, not planning for post-invasion Iraq, and for allowing widespread human rights abuses. As the war progressed, critics also railed against the high human and financial costs. The financial cost of the war was more than £4.55 billion ($9 billion) to the U.K., and over $845 billion to the U.S., the total cost to the U.S. economy estimated at $3 trillion. Conduction

Philip Larkin’s Poetry: Themes, Form, Style, Imagery and Symbolism

“we are reading Larkin”? The main purpose of the volume may be discussing and assessing Larkin’s poetry, but there are at least as many references to his letters (mainly published in SL) and to his life as to the poems themselves. If we think that Larkin is known as a legend we shouldn’t be surprised about the importance his life takes as a part of his work. His work, balancing on the borderline between “Life” and “Art”, will probably always is interesting not only for critics, but also for a wider reading public. There is every chance that this interest will be further increased by the publication of Larkin’s letters to Monica Jones in 2010. The private letters draw one’s attention not merely to the poet’s life, but also to the romantic aspect of his personality: the author who first builds up his life, then projects it into poetry. Although I will keep references to Larkin’s life in this study to a minimum, I am

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

to convey his interpretation of the nature of human existence. He writes in the first person so the reader can identify and deeply understand the truths he wished to share about the meaning of life and man's relationship with the Creator. Dante is remembered as a great thinker and one of the most learned writers of all time. Many scholars consider his epic poem The Divine Comedy consisting of Inferno, Paradiso, and Purgatorio, among the finest works of all literature. Critics have praised it not only as magnificent poetry, but also for its wisdom and scholarly learning. Dante was a man who lived, who saw political and artistic success, and who was in love. He was also a man who was defeated, who felt danger and the humiliation of exile, and who was no stranger to the cruelty and treachery possible in people. Dante felt he was a victim of a grave injustice. He also suffered serious self-doubts, natural for a man in exile

Discuss the representation of the generation of fathers in Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and Sons”

Bucolic life. 3 The love-story between the peasant and the landlord symbolises an underlying problem of the society on the eve of Emancipation in 1861 (the serfs were emancipated by royal decree in 1861, novel set in 1959). Such a relationship between landowner and peasant girl takes the reader further into ideology, calling to mind the social scene in Russia on the eve of Emancipation. Some (contemporary) critics found this illegal affair as proof of the weak morals of the gentry despite their high ideals and ideologies of class. As Nikolai is initially ashamed of his affair and illegitimate son, offering to hide Fenichka while Bazarovs stays, he later transforms and decides to marry her. The wedding between these two suggests Turgenev's optimism for Russia's future. (Jahn, 1977) -Turgenev concluding that in some way, the old generation will find its place???,

A novel Wuthering Heights. · Why is Wuthering Heights important in the History of English literature? What makes it different than other works of the period? It was Emilys only novel that she ever wrote. Its innovative structure somewhat puzzled critics. Although it received mixed reviews when it first came out, the book subsequently became an English literary classic. In 1850, Charlotte edited and published Wuthering Heights as a stand-alone novel and under Emily's real name.(wikipedia) Wuthering Heights` innovative structure, which has been likened to a series of Matryoshka dolls because it does not follow a linear structure but employs such devices as flashbacks and two narrators which reveal the narrative step-by-step.

American Literature

In 1796, John Gabriel Stedman published the memoirs of his fiveyear voyage to the Dutchcontrolled Surinam in South America as part of a military force sent out to subdue bosnegers, former slaves living in the inlands. The book is critical of the treatment of slaves and contains many images by William Blake and Francesco Bartolozzi depicting the cruel treatment of runaway slaves. It was an example of what became a large body of abolitionist literature. Historians and literary critics find the roots of English nineteenth century abolitionist literature in the preceding century. Eighteenthcentury Enlightenment ideals such as compassionate humanitarianism and a new concept of liberty, combined with a growing religious zeal which stressed the perfectibility of mankind and the brotherhood of all races, caused profound changes in how the English thought and wrote about slavery. A great deal of scholarship has devoted itself to tracing the growth of

Suppletion Present in languages of different families. Present in Old, Middle and Modern English, though the general tendency is towards more regularity/iconicity so the number of suppletive forms has decreased. In the text: goon to go wenden - to turn Gan was suppletive in Old English, past form: eode.Eode was supplanted by went (past form of wenden) at the end of the Middle English period. To wend has survived in Modern English in phrases such as to wend one's way, we wended homewards (ironic usage). Street Art

invaluable work. Trends are changing. Now, young artists are moving from an endless unthinking tagging to a more conceptual and rich sense, abstract and volumetric work. Street art has become popular among the general public, because it is more accessible to him both in content and in location: for art, now you do not need to go to a museum or gallery, and the meaning of the work is often clear at a glance. In our environment there are not enough professional critics and theorists who could competently evaluate and describe the work of street artists. This is very bad, because the viewer needs a certain benchmark, according to which he could assess the quality of the works presented. 1. THEORETICAL PART Any type of history is a discourse in its own right. What is more, when talking about art history, the discourses seem to flourish immensely from one into another, and so on into many more. In
