The author is really good at descriptions there are just wonderful descriptions in the book. Always when Joe meets someone new or an old friend then the author describes him/her like he/she was the most important one and I like that every little detail counts. I love how the author has made out Barbara´s character it is seen clearly how lovely and cute she is. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes to read a good novel without guessing at the beginning how the book is going to end. "Life At The Top" suits perfectly for cold winter evenings when it is dark and chilly. This novel is also a basis for the successful film "Life At The Top". I would like to see this movie and read other novels by excellent English author John Braine.

A good friend might be someone who's there to provide support when times are tough, or someone you can rely on to celebrate a special moment with you. Friends might come and go in our life, they might make us laugh and cry, but most importantly they love us for who we are. It doesn't matter what a person looks like or what kind of clothes they wear, but it's what's on the inside that counts. It's the actions they take, no matter how big or small, to show us how much of a good friend they are, and being there for us no matter what, even when things get rough. Friends are always there for us, to laugh with us in the happy times and to provide us with a shoulder, when we feel like crying. There is not a list of qualities you expect to see in a friend. To be honest, I hate writing; essays, and assignments, even long e-mails sometimes bother me. When I sit down with my laptop to write an essay I look at the word processing screen and all I see is how much I haven't written and how much I have left to write. The task in front of me becomes more daunting and frustrating. I feel like when I write on the computer my words are chosen to simply fill a page. Handwriting provides an escape from the looming word counts and page numbers. We discussed in class how writing by hand forces you to think out your sentences and chose your words more carefully.
