The Crucial Problems of the World

The Crucial Problems of the World There are many problems in the world right at this time. One of the biggest and maybe the one which people talk about the most is the waste and recycling problem. As we all know, humankind is producing more waist than we can handle, reproduce and recycle. Even in here, Estonia, people are thinking of building a nuclear power station, because fossil fuel is soon depleted. The other problem, a little bit connected to the first one, is the greenhouse effect. The light from the Sun reaches us and after that the light reflexes from the Earth's surface back to the space, but thanks to the pollution, it absorbs and reflexes back to us again, causing global warming. The third problem is the fastly growing population. There are now more than 7 milliard people in the world and the number is still getting bigger. That leads us to the overcrowded cities, poverty and hunger. ...

The advantages and disadvantages of multiculturalism

The advantages and disadvantages of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism has both the good sides and the bad sides. A lot depends on the country as much it depends of its people. The good side is definitely the environment and society, which enrich and develop into many directions. So do people, too. New languages spread to schools all over the world and people learn and try out new things such as new oriental cuisines and much more. Many different traditiones expand that way. On the other side, people are different and probably, when they move to another country, they expect or hope, that there is better life, but often they are wrong. The obstacle can very easily be even the language. If you don't know or understand the language of the country, it can be very tricky to live on. But in good will, learning the language isn't very hard, unless you're learning Chinese symbols. The threat of terr...

Environmental problems (Keskkonnaprobleemid)

Environmental problems Nimi Klass Biodiversity The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity, is commonly referred to as biodiversity. The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth. Appropriate conservation and sustainable development strategies attempt to recognize this as being integral to any approach. In some way or form, almost all cultures have recognized the importance of nature and its biological diversity for their societies and have therefore understood the need to maintain it. Yet, power, greed and politics have affected the precarious balance. Why Is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares? · Why is Biodiversity important? Does it really matter if there aren't so many species?

Inglise keele report: Animals in danger of extinction

Subject: Animals in danger of extinction Date: 20.04.11 The aim of this report is to make an overview of the status of wild animals in the world. The report is based on up-to-date statistics related to the topic. There are several disappointing facts and figures. a) Over the last couple of years the list of animals in danger of extinction has grown rapidly. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has calculated the percentage of endangered animals as 40 percent of all organisms. Recent research indicates that 70% of the world's most threatened mammal species are currently receiving little or no conservation attention. On 29 January 2010, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species identified 842 extinct species and subspecies. b) The rarest animal on Earth today is the Pinta Island Tortoise (originating from

Rare animals

Rare animals Rare Chinese tiger seen in the wild Researchers have confirmed that a wild tiger, photographed by a farmer in the Qinba Mountains of Shaanxi Province, Central China, is indeed that of the critically endangered South China tiger. The South China tiger classified as one of only five subspecies of tiger still alive today is extremely rare, with only an estimated 20 to 30 still remaining in the wild. The wildlife and conservation group WWF says the South China tiger is actually native to the Hainan most forests of south-east China, and because there are so few individuals left, it is regarded by many scientists as being "functionally extinct" in the wild. But a group called Save China's Tigers has been working on a captive- breeding programme and hopes to reach an agreement with China's State Forestry Administration to reintroduce captive-bred animals into the wild. If all goes well, the first individuals

Most endangered bears

rebounded in parts of the United States, thanks to U.S. Endangered Species Act protection. • Human settlements near brown bear habitats are increasingly becoming "mortality sinks" where the animals are poached or inadvertently (tahtmatult) killed. 8. THE AMERICAN BLACK BEAR • Thriving in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, this is the only bear species considered secure throughout its range. • An enormous amount of effort and funding for conservation and management continue to be directed at bears in North America, where their status is relatively favorable. CONCLUSION • Six of the world's eight bear species—75 percent—are threatened with extinction. • Hunting is also a problem—sun bear gall bladders are sought for their bile (sapp), an ingredient in Asian folk medicines. • Six out of eight of the world's bear species are threatened with extinction. Description of an animal

They can be aggressive towards each other, throwing a foreleg around their opponent and biting. Koalas have become endangered because their habitat is being destroyed. Besides having no living place, it has lost its source of food. As the Koala is an very fussy eater and almost only eats eucalyptus leaves, it has a limited supply of food choice. The Australian Koala Foundation is the main organisation dedicated to `'saving the koala''. Their mission is to provide the long-term conservation of koalas and their "home range", and to minimise current and future threats to koalas living in the wild.

Hiidpanda/Bambuskaru

It has strong jaw muscles and teeth for eating tough bamboo. Giant pandas are generally solitary. Each adult has a defined territory and female pandas do not tolerate each other. Pandas are known to attack humans, but rather out of irritation than aggression. Pandas are endangered species, threatened by continued habitat loss and by a very low birthrate. The population boom in China created stress on the panda's habitat and it led to hunting of wildlife, including pandas. Due to conservation efforts, in 2006, there were 40 panda reserves in China, compared to just 13 reserves two decades ago. A program called ,,On the Trail of Giant Panda'' was launched in 2012 to allow volunteers to work up close with the pandas cared for in captivity and help them adabt to life in the wild. Then they can breed better, live longer and have healthier lives.

CARPOOLING/esitlus inglise keeles

Ladies and gentlemen, do you drive a car every day? Do some of you own a car? Have you ever thought about cost reducing? It seems you really want to know how to make your car costs smaller. It would be in your own interests. I think carpooling is a good solution for it. Let me to describe what does carpooling mean. You need to know that carpooling is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car. The driver doesn’t try to earn money, but to share with several people the cost of a trip he would do anyway. The expenses to be divided basically include the fuel and possible tolls. Let me introduce to you good points of carpooling: Firstly. by having more people using one vehicle, carpooling reduces each person's travel costs such as fuel costs, tolls, and the stress of driving. Secondly, carpooling is also a more environmentally friendly way to travel. Please pay attention, that sharing journeys reduces carbon em...

Tiiger

Hiina Hiinas on nähtud amuuri tiigrit Heilingjongi ja Jilani provintsis Kirde-Hiinas, lisaks veel mõned isendid Changbaishanis, Hiina ja Lõuna-Korea piiri lähedal. Arvatakse, et amuuri tiigreid võib Hiinas elada alla 35 looma. Kuna põhiline osa amuuri tiigritest elab Venemaal, siis oleneb just meie suurest idanaabrist selle alamliigi tulevik . Kuid samas on Hiina viimasel ajal teinud pingutusi suurte kaslaste kaitsmiseks. Koostöös Ameerika Ühendriikides asuva Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)-ga alustas Hiina 2001. aastal oma piirialale Jilini provintsi Hunchuni ulatusliku suurte kaslaste kaitseala rajamist. 2003.a. talvel õnnestus seal kaameraga jäädvustada keskmene amuuri tiiger.

Esimene artikkel „From 3D landscape visualization to environmental simulation: The contribution of sound to the perception of virtual environments“ tugineb visuaalsele keskkonnale uurides heli tajuga 3D maastiku kujutamist. Uurimisega selgus, et heli võib olla tõhus vahend maastiku kujutamisel. (Lindquist, Lange, Kang 2016) Teises artiklis „Integrated landscape management for agriculture, rural livelihoods, and ecosystem conservation: An assessment of experience from Latin America and the Caribbean“ on juttu uuringust, mis iseloomustab integreeritud maastikku Ladina Ameerikas ja Kariibi mere saartel. Rõhutades sellele, kuidas erinevaid vahendeid, meetodeid, lähenemisi või strateegiaid rakendada. Räägitakse maastiku multifonktsionaalsusest ja kuidas seda tõhusalt kasutada. (Estrada-Carmona, Hart, DeClerck, Harvey, Milder 2014) Kolmas artikkel „Landscape as medium and method for synthesis in urban ecological

Theodore Roosevelt

he resigned and led a small regiment in Cuba known as the Rough Riders, earning himself a nomination for the Medal of Honor. After the war, he returned to New York and was elected Governor; two years later he was nominated for and elected Vice President of the United States. In 1901, President William McKinley was assassinated, and Roosevelt became president at the age of 42, taking office at the youngest age of any U.S. President in history. As an outdoorsman and naturalist, he promoted the conservation movement. On the world stage, Roosevelt's policies were characterized by his slogan, "Speak softly and carry a big stick". Roosevelt was the force behind the completion of the Panama Canal; he sent out the Great White Fleet to display American power, and he negotiated an end to the Russo-Japanese War, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declined to run for re-election in 1908. After leaving office, he embarked on a safari to Africa and a trip to Europe

Weed Management Handbook

-a plant whose virtues have yet to be discovered • Modern definitions: -plants that are considered undesirable by producers -unwanted plant which in some way hinders or interfers with human activity. (Crops may at some point also be weeds) Weed disadvantages • Reduces crop yield – weeds and crops have to share resources such as light, water and nutrients • Reduces crop quality and health – increases moisture and disease levels • Delay harvesting – conservation of moisture may delay ripening Beneficial effects of weeds • Valuable indicators • Help against erosion • Many weeds are used as herbs for flavouring • Some weeds are used for their medical properties Seed bank • The reservoir of viable seeds found in the soil or at its surface • Depends on the intensivity, soil type, previous cropping, cultivation and herbicide use • 1000 seeds/m2 in pastures or intensively managed arable fields

KASUTATUD KIRJANDUS 1. However, if the information about connectivity exists, then it helps in creating of functioning MPA networks. The best protected area networks performance was achieved by combination of information about connectivity and habitat quality, but no major difference appeared when only connectivity was taken into consideration. In terms of protecting the Baltic Sea, there are many important directives in the European Union that are designed to ensure conservation of natures biodiversity and proper functioning of ecosystem. Most important of these are: The Birds Directive, Habitats Directive, Water Framework Directive and Marine Strategy Framework Directive. 24 Tänuavaldus Tahaksin tänada oma juhendajat, Tiia Möllerit, kelle nõuanded olid suureks abiks selle töö valmimisel. 25 Kasutatud kirjandus Anon. 1979

Metsad

erosiooni. Vihmametsade hävitamise veel üks peapõhjusi on soov luua monokultuurseid põllumajandusmaid. Troopilises kliimas loodetakse kasvatada riisi, kummipuud, kakaod või pipart vastavalt turunõudlusele. Metsade hävitamisel jääb aga vaid õhuke kiht huumust: maa kurnatakse väheste aastate jooksul välja ja muutub põllumajandusele kõlbmatuks. Alternatiivse lahendusena pakub ICR (integreeritud looduskaitseuuringute instituut "Integrated Conservation Research") kohalikele elanikele võimalust kasutada vihmametsa looduslikke rikkusi, müües mitmesuguseid loodustooteid, samuti tegelda ökoturismiga. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJLG85gn
