English structure revision for the exam
Some grammarians say, though, that actually there is no genitive case in English.
Because the ‘s attaches itself in the end of the noun
phrase, not to the head noun. For example: the King of
England’s daughter.
The head of the noun phrase is King and the ‘s should be in the
end of King. So it is believed that the ‘s is a clitic rather than a
case ending.
Another analysis is that nouns in English do not inflect
for case, because the ‘s is not lexical but it’s a phrasal
suffix.
4. Pronouns
