Character sketch - Tom Bunchanan, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

name Tom broke her nose. Tom, as a husband, isn't a good man as well. He is not violent with Daisy but he doesn't show undying love either. Tom spends a lot of time with his mistress leaving Daisy on her own. He doesn't think he is doing anything wrong while cheating his wife but when he finds out that Daisy and Gatsby are having an affair, he becomes outraged. It shows that he doesn't see her wife as equal and Daisy has no right to cheat on him like he does. Around Gatsby Tom acts suspicious and after finding out about the affair he wants a confrontation. Tom sets his plan in motion when he, Daisy, Nick, Gatsby and Jordan go to New York. He lets Gatsby and Daisy ride together in his car while he drives Gatby's car. In a suite at the Plaza Hotel, Tom accuses Gatsby of running a bootlegging operation and lying about having attended Oxford. Gatsby answers by saying that Daisy has never loved Tom

We need sun for illumination, similarly we need scriptures to give us eternal knowledge. As we have four defects, we can not acquire knowledge properly. These four defects progressivly and increasingly limit the knowledge that we can acquire. Four defects that every human being has, are: propensity to cheat, illusion, mistakes, limited senses. Because we have limited senses we can not perceive what is beyond our sense perception, therefore we make mistakes and stay in illusion taking that "what is not (maya)" as something real, and we tend to cheat by creating our own mental speculations to prove our "truth". Therefore we need Vedas to acquire the perfect knowledge, transcendental knowledge. Vedas give universal and axiomatic wisdom. Universal means applicable at all times, axiomatic-

Should smart devices be banned in the classroom?

Students have them all over the world. The disadvantages of banning smart devices are several. Cellphones can be very useful if used for the right purposes. When smart devices are banned then students can’t use their smart phones for looking up information, or knowing what homework is and can’t use them for dictionaries or calculators. The advantages of banning smart devices are more than advantages. When tabs, smart phones or computers are banned then also students could not cheat on a test by looking for information on the Internet and they could not get distracted on their devices by being socially active by texting on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or playing games. In my opinion of banning smart devices is a good idea because students will be a more alert to be aware of the teacher. The students will use their brain more efficiently when they don’t have access to easy search technology through their phone.

expenditure. Different countries have different tax systems. Income taxes in most countries are progressive. Estonia has had so far a flat tax rate which is quite unique in the world. The problem with progressive taxes is that the marginal rate- the tax people pay on any additional income - is always high, which is generally a disincentive to both working and investing. The higher the tax rates, more people are tempted to cheat. Some employers give highly paid employees lots of perquisites such as company cars, free health insurance, and subsidized lunches. Taxation Act in Estonia was passed in 2002. Taxes are divided into direct and indirect taxes. Direct taxes are income taxes, gambling tax, land tax, social tax and heavy goods vehicle tax. The income tax rate in Estonia is 21% and social tax rate is 33%. In 2000 a corporate tax reform took place in Estonia. The goal

bad. Smartphones are also bad for your eyes and posture. On the other hand smartphones can be very useful. You are able to search for information very quickly. Using them in class can make students take up knowledge more easily because the environment is more comfortable for them. Also doing tests in smartphones can be easier for students. Doing tests trough smartphones is also easier for teachers. Smartphones can also help you when you have a test on the paper. You can cheat but only if you do not get caught. In conclusion I think that students should pay more attention to teachers not on their smartphones. The knowledge that is getting lost is huge and that can affect your life in future. On the other hand I think that more test should be done with smartphones because that saves paper nad it is easier for teacher to grade the tests.

Many of those advertisements have text for example ,,You won 1 million'' or ,,Write here your phone number and get new Mobile Phone''. But if people click there and insert all the numbers and addresses what are needed there, then for example your phone bill is growing every month and you don't know where it is going and you can't stop services like these. I think if people want to use Internet they should learn about Internet dangers and be aware on any kind of cheat advertisements and schools should speak more about Internet chatrooms.

servants leave their employers and turn their back on them. For example, there is a young black girl named Tia who is the daughter of an attendant and she is Antoinette´s only companion. One day Tia unexpectedly turns against Antoinette. Tia sees the pennies that Christophine has given Antoinette and she bets three pennies that Antoinette cannot turn a somersault under water. Antoinette manages to do the somersault, but comes up choking so Tia takes the pennies anyway. Antoinette calls Tia a cheat and Tia calls Antoinette´s family poor and trashy. When Antoinette turns her back, Tia takes her clothes and disappers, leaving her own dirty dress for Antoinette. Tia´s disloyalty manifests the allure and corrupting power of money. She desires money more than a lovely childhood friendship. Secondly, the black women feel more comfortable in their own skin and they are not afraid to express their thoughts and insults. Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief A film review by Bill Gibron The new Harry Potter wannabe, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, gets so many things right that when it goes astray (which happens with more and more frequency as it goes along) you kind of wish it hadn't tried in the first place. Unless your last name is Harryhausen, you shouldn't really maneuver Greek mythology, and you definitely don't need to use it as a source from some Shrek-inspired collection of tired pop culture riffs. Yet that's exactly what this Chris Columbus helmed half-success does. We begin by learning that the fabled gods of old do exist, and that Zeus is especially mad at brother Poseidon. Seems the head hocho's magical lightning bolt has been stolen, and each accuses the other of using the crime as a means of starting an all out Olympian war. Zeus specifically blames Poseidon's son, Percy Jackson, and soon, all th...

The scale is one tool, and you should use it, but it is not king. It can mislead. Take this unedited feedback from Angel, who was two weeks into the Slow-Carb Diet at the time (see "The Slow-Carb Diet I and II" chapters): After my cheat day on Saturday, I gained 1 pound which is normal for me ... week two, I lost that 1 pound. I didn't lose any [additional] weight on week two, but I'm not discouraged. I did manage to lose in inches. I lost ½ an inch o my hips which is absolutely great. I lost a total of 1 inch o my thighs. Not so shabby either. So that's a total of 1.5 inches for the week. I'll take the inches. The grand total of inches lost from Day One: 5 inches ... Yippee! No exercise either.

Emilia comments on the state of Desdemona’s marriage, mentioning that it might have been a mistake. By giving additional information or explaining a misunderstood word, they may inappropriately influence a respondent. Even the way interviewers look and dress may influence a respondent in a face-to-face interview. Selecting and training interviewers carefully helps reducing interviewer related errors. For more details, see Chapter 23 on interviewer training by Lessler, Eyerman, and Wang. Interviewers can make genuine mistakes, but they also may intentionally cheat. Interviewers have been known to falsify data, or skip questions to shorten tedious interviews. Monitoring interviewers helps to reduce this. Having a quality controller listening in on telephone interviewers is a widely used method. In face-to-face interviews, recordings can be made and selected täpes can be checked afterwards. Special verification contacts or re-interviews may be used to evaluate interviewer performance in large-scale face-to-face surveys (cf. Lyberg & Biemer, Chapter 22;

A lover's never hard to cheat, And self-conceit leads straight to self-deceit. Bid him come down to me. (To Cleante and Mariane) And you, withdraw. T h i s makes the audience participants in a detective story, an emotional puzzle. THEME T h e Ordinary W o r l d is the place to state the theme of your story. W h a t is the story really about? If you had to boil down its essence to a single word or phrase, what would it be? W h a t single idea or quality is it about? Love? Trust? Betrayal? Vanity? Prejudice? Greed? Madness? Ambition? Friendship? W h a t are you trying to say? Is your theme "Love conquers all," "You can't cheat an honest man," " W e must work together to survive," or " M o n e y is the root of all evil"? T h e m e , a word derived from Greek, is close in meaning to the Latin-based premise. Both words mean "something set before," something laid out in advance that helps determine a future course. T h e theme of a story is an underlying statement or assumption about an aspect of life. Usually it's set out somewhere in Act One, in the Ordinary World

" You would think: What? How does having spaghetti impede getting to class on the following day? Was it tainted? If you did start thinking along those lines, notice that you would simply have assumed that I was cooperating by producing an answer to the question you asked. One thing you will gradually learn, the more you think about conversational cooperation, is how pathetically easy it is for a trained linguist or philosopher of language to mislead, deceive, cheat, and hoodwink other people without ever saying anything false. Advertising copywriters and politicians are masters of conversational implicature, having worked it out instinctively, because it allows them to convey falsehoods without breaking the law by uttering false sentences. 2 Grice adds a third feature, "detachability". Since his form of conversational reasoning proceeds from the propositional content of the sentence uttered, any

CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Don’t take it on unless you are willing to do it in an excellent fashion. Integrity means that you are always truthful, straightforward, and honest with everyone in your life. Just as you are true to your- self, you are true to others as well. You live in truth with others, at home and at work. If you ask people whether they are honest, almost everyone will say that they are. Most people do not lie, cheat, steal, or engage in dishonest behaviors of any kind. But being truly honest means that you are honest with everyone in your life. This means that not only do you never lie; you never live a lie. You never stay in a situation that is wrong for you or in a condition that undermines your in- tegrity or makes you unhappy.You never compromise your integrity by biting your lip and refusing to say what you truly think and feel.

away. "Shall we go down?" Esme asked in her soft, melodic voice, and I realized I was staring openmouthed after him. I quickly reassembled my expression and nodded. Esme kept a few feet between us, and I wondered if she was still being careful not to frighten me. She matched her stride to mine without seeming impatient at the pace. "You don't play with them?" I asked shyly. "No, I prefer to referee -- I like keeping them honest," she explained. "Do they like to cheat, then?" "Oh yes -- you should hear the arguments they get into! Actually, I hope you don't, you would think they were raised by a pack of wolves." "You sound like my mom," I laughed, surprised. She laughed, too. "Well, I do think of them as my children in most ways. I never could get over my mothering instincts -- did Edward tell you I had lost a child?" "No," I murmured, stunned, scrambling to understand what lifetime she was remembering. "Yes, my first and only baby

"Jane, I congratulate you. You will be a very happy woman." Jane went to him instantly, kissed him, and thanked him for his goodness. "You are a good girl;" he replied, "and I have great pleasure in thinking you will be so happily settled. I have not a doubt of your doing very well together. Your tempers are by no means unlike. You are each of you so complying, that nothing will ever be resolved on; so easy, that every servant will cheat you; and so generous, that you will always exceed your income." "I hope not so. Imprudence or thoughtlessness in money matters would be unpardonable in me." "Exceed their income! My dear Mr. Bennet," cried his wife, "what are you talking of? Why, he has four or five thousand a year, and very likely more." Then addressing her daughter, "Oh! my dear, dear Jane, I am so happy! I am sure I shan't get a wink of sleep all night. going elsewhere to pay the same price? Fortunately, the station attendant-owner came over and helped me make up my mind. He asked why I wasn't pumping any gas. I told him I didn't like the price discrepancy and he said with a snarl, "Listen, nobody's gonna tell me how to run my business. If you think I'm cheating you, just put that hose down right now and get off my property as fast as you can do it, bud." Already certain he was a cheat, I was happy to act consistently with my belief and his wishes. I dropped the hose on the spot ... and drove over it on my way to the closest exit. Sometimes consistency can be a marvelously rewarding thing. Special Vulnerabilities Are there particular kinds of people whose need to be consistent with what they've previously said and done makes them especially susceptible to the commitment tactics covered in this chapter? There are. To learn about the traits that character-

Here, on Yamamoto's flank, where they were not likely to be scouted, they were to await his advance. Then, with the advantage of the surprise that the American cryptanalysts had wrestled from the unsuspecting Yama-moto, they were to spring on him, repulse the Midway invasion, wreak havoc on his carriers, and finally cheat him of the naval victory on which his war-winning strategy depended. The three carriers took up station at POINT LUCK on June 2. By then the Japanese had succeeded in effecting their long-desired code change.
