My room

My room

My flat is on the first floor. It's very comfortable and well-planned. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony. The largest room in our flat is the living room and me and my husband room too. My family uses it as a sitting room. On the left there is my bed and desk. The desk has a lot of drawers where I keep my text-books, notes, pens, pencils and other necessary things. On the right there is a sofa and a built-in wardrobe. In the right corner there is a comfortable arm-chair. Beside it stands a lamp with blue shade. I like to turn on the lamp, sit in the arm-chair and read an interesting book. There is a small glass coffee table on the center of room, a TV set on the wall and a DVD player in it. There is a big thick carpet on the floor. I like my room very much. We use this room to meet the guests and to celebrate all holidays and important family occasions.

A lamb to the slaughter

Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl (1916-1990) The room was warm and clean, the curtains drawn, the two table lamps alight - hers and the one by the empty chair opposite. On the sideboard behind her, two tall glasses, soda water, whiskey. Fresh ice cubes in the Thermos bucket. Mary Maloney was waiting for her husband to come him (correction: home) from work. Now and again she would glance up at the clock, but without anxiety, merely to please herself with the thought that each minute gone by made it nearer the time when he would come. There was a slow smiling air about her, and about everything she did. The drop of a head as she bent over her

In general, The audience of the written task can be anyone who is interested in literature, particularly in Katherine Mansfield’s short stories. Word count: 245 Continuing Katherine’s Mansfield’s short story “Mrs. Brill” Her heart started trembling as she thought about the incident in the park. The tears ran from her eyes like a river and the faces of Ann and George kept coming into her head. She walked into the other end of her miniature room, sat down on a blue wooden chair and opened a little box next to the chair. The box was old and was covered with dust, it was clear that it had been untouched for a long time. Inside the box there were photos of a little girl and the little girl’s parents. Miss Brill looked at these photos very carefully for a long time one by one. The last picture that she took in her hands was again a photo of a little girl. The girl was on a grey bed and looked awfully pale

My ideal house would be a small detached villa on a quiet tropical island, preferably with an outdoor pool. The house is made of bricks. In my case I would have as many windows as possible. Light colour in the hall, it's the first thing you see when you walk into the house. There's not much space, therefore, this is fulfilled only essential things. On the right hand, there is a low cupboard, which is next to the vase of globeflowers. On the opposite wall, there is rocking chair and a peg. The ceiling is painted white and cream colored carpet covers the parquet. The next room consists of dining and livingroom. This is the biggest and the brightest room in this house. A rich mintcream walls and hardwood floors these two are well contrasted with furniture. One wall is all glass with a nice view of the ocean, so it's left almost uncovered. Only dining table and four chairs in oak are located close to it. This way you should have a good view at sunset

Players often use sweat bands on their wrists to keep their hands dry as well. Although the game can be played in a variety of shoes, specialized tennis shoes have wide, flat soles for stability and a built-up front structure to avoid excess wear. Tennis is played on a rectangular, flat surface, usually grass, clay, a hardcourt of concrete and/or asphalt and occasionally carpet (indoor). In most professional play and some amateur competition, there is an officiating head judge or chair umpire, who sits in a raised chair to one side of the court. The umpire has absolute authority to make factual determinations. The umpire may be assisted by line judges, who determine whether the ball has landed within the required part of the court and who also call foot faults. There also may be a net judge who determines whether the ball has touched the net during service. In some tournaments, certain line judges, usually those who would be

Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll The BLACK kitten had once again made a mess in the living room with a ball of worsted you see it could have not been the white kitten, Snowbell, as she was having her face washed by Dina. Alice caught the black kitten and settled into an arm-chair to wind up the worsted again. Soon forgetting all about it she started wondering if Kitty could play chess. And thus her favourite game of "Let's pretend" started. Suddenly the Looking-Glass House caught Alice's attention. She had always been wondering about the Looking-Glass world. It was so tempting. Without even noticing she was on the mantelpiece and through the looking-glass. The room was quite uninteresting and untidy. But

Ghost Story

A few weeks later, when they arrived home around 1 pm and found their dog, who almost never barked, barking and acting very strange. He was barking at their garage. The family at first thought it was a cat or some other small animal; the father turned his attention to the garage. The whole family then went to see what was going on, when they opened the old squeaking garage door; they saw an old lady who was sitting in a chair rocking back and forth very slowly. The father went to the car and directed the cars headlights towards the lady, they saw nothing, when he turned the lights out again, and the lady appeared. He did it again, same thing happened. The family was stunned and scared. They drove away as quickly as they could and never went back to that house. They later found out that in the 19th century there lived a happy couple, but when the husband died, wife had gone crazy.

THE NEW "BAMBO" PUSHCHAIR Introduction. The aim of this report is to find out how good the new pushchair is. It is based on the results of interviews with 150 mothers and fathers all over the country (from London, Bristol, Birmingham, Gloucester, Glasgow and Leeds) using "Bambo". Observations. It was found that the majority of the people who had been interviewed thought that the chair is fantastic. In the words of Mrs Roberta for example it is light and manageable, definitely better than her old pushchairs. Its good points are also that it is easy to steer, it has an attractive design and it fits in the boot of the car. A minority of people found mistakes from "Bambo". One complaint for example was that the wheel locking mechanism is too small to operate by foot. Recommendations. It is recommended that the wheel locking mechanism

They were my grandparents. Guests brought pies made by grandma and a beautiful bunch of flowers since i'd just had my birthday a week before. Mother asked me to take out a vase to put the flowers in the water. So i did and i climbed on top of a chair to grab my favourite vase with blue flowers on it. Suddenly i noticed a lot of sweets on the top shelf of the drawer and also drawings i had drawn to santa claus. I shouted "mommy, is this the dwarves' storage place?" I was frustrated, because they hadn't delivered my drawings to santa, but then mom explained that because they are so small and carrying things bigger than themselves causes difficulties for them, they make special storage places at people's homes

The Internet is making literature irrelevant

Nobody reads any more, or if they do it is on the internet and only a summary so as not to get tired too much. The Internet entertains superficially, as people do not gain too much by ''surfing'' it. Yes, maybe a new pair of glasses for spending so much time in front of a computer. I do not say there are no educating websites that are worth visiting, that really help, but their number is quite small. As not to get fat, while sitting on an arm-chair, people could instead go to a library, borrow a book and go to a park and start reading. Everybody will notice the difference. They will think so well of themselves while doing more things at once: reading and enjoying themselves in the middle of nature. People should try to understand that the Internet is benefic to our life till one point. If the line is crossed and nothing else is done all day long, then they will ruin their health and their education will be damaged too.

that isn't violent might be a lot easier way to conquer in life. I think that all of you know that every tool, weapon, Everything that surrounds us, has started with an idea. That shouldn't be new for you. Some people might find it hard to believe, but even the most common things- like chairs, walls, even a pack of bread has been an idea once. Someone had probably felt that his or her legs got tired and sitting on floor might not be so comfortable, so one chose to invent a chair. Think of it- even floor, where people used to sit before chairs were invented is certainly someone's idea and invention. Isn't it strange to think like that? You are probably wondering that why are those ideas then so important? It's a good question and there is no way that it could have that one and only answer. I think that all of you have come across some contests, where good ideas are being searched. For example, several months ago I noticed a

Homereading - body language

Perhaps you hold your hands close to your face when you talk - generally, this is a sign of insecurity. The same is true if you roll a beard or moustache with your hands or fix your hair, perhaps pushing or curling it behind an ear. Are you sitting comfortably? The way that people sit in chairs is not coincidental. If you are lounging with arms and legs dangling, it is probably a sign that you are relaxed and feeling comfortable. If you are positioned on the edge of the chair with you legs stretched before you and your feet crossed it can signal indifference. Example: in a country where rules of behaviour in court were very strict, a witness in a trial sat as described above, with his huge boots lumped on top of each other, wearing a big coat and with his arms crossed. The judge said: 'Sit up straight and take your coat off, or I'll hold you in contempt.' The man got his posture straightened out in no time when he realised that he risked being fined.

Efektsetest poosidest kujunesid uued liikumised, nii tekkisid chair freeze'i põhjal floor track, back spin, windmill jt. Varasteks 1980ndateks olid välja kujunenud nn power moves rohkete pöörlemiste

Stephen William Hawking

His supervisor was Denis Sciama, although he had hoped to get Fred Hoyle who was working in Cambridge. After gaining his Ph.D. he became first a Research Fellow and later on a Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. After leaving the Institute of Astronomy in 1973, Stephen came to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and since 1979, has held the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. The chair was founded in 1663 with money left in the will of the Reverend Henry Lucas who had been the Member of Parliament for the University. It was first held by Isaac Barrow and then in 1669 by Isaac Newton. Stephen Hawking has worked on the basic laws which govern the universe. With Roger Penrose he showed that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity implied space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes. These results indicated that it was

Robinson Crusoe

At first Crusoe built the tent for himself but found that as a few days living here, that the tent was an unsuitable place. He built entrance to a cave new place, which was surrounded with fence is that it would be safer. Imaginary in cave he had already built a kitchen and sleeping place where he felt comfortable and safe. Robinson cave began to look quite organized, with a place for everything, and everything in its place. Soon he began to try and make some useful things; with a chair and table he would be able to write and eat more comfortably. He record a days and months how long time he was been there. He was very grateful for these things, which he had helped the survivors, and he saw a lot of useful things what he had around him...

words. The first effect of foreign influences is of course the volume of the vocabulary. Borrowings influence native words stilistically and semantically. If we have 2 words in the language: one native, other borrowed, then they become different in meaning and usage (nt, to meet or to encounter- meaning's the same, but stilistically different) Under the influence of borrowings native words narrowed their meaning (nt stool-iste, chair was borrowed, chair infuenced stool and it is now a taburet). Borrowings have influenced the English language a lot but native elements should not be disregarded or overlooked. Latin borrowings cheap, pepper, street, mile, butter, cheese, wine, inch, ounce, pound, kitchen, plum, cup, dish, mint, Leicester, Clocester, colonia, lincoln, fossbrok, mass, monk, nun, bishop, abbot, minster, apostle, pope, altar, hymn, democratic, juvenile,

The UK

it has seats for only 437, so when there is something important to discuss it can beeome very crowded and MPs squeeze on to the benches or sit on the steps. The House of Commons has a chairman, called the Speaker, whose job is to keep the House in order, a little like a referee at a football match. He or she shouts 'Order! Order!' when MPs start shouting at eaeh other, or when the discussion gets out of control. The Speaker sits in the centre at the back, on a high chair, and ecn see the whole Chamber from this positian. The office of Speaker is neutral, i.e. he or she is not a voting member of a political party. There are red lines running along each side of the Chamber. This means that the Chamber is divided in two. Since Britain traditionally has two main political parties, the Conservative Party and the Labour Party, each party can have its own side! The party which is in government sits on the right
