A Storm at Sea

A Storm at Sea Kelin Kuznetsova 8.B It was a cloudy afternoon, when Jason, Paul and Tony were on a sailing holiday last summer. It all took place at a calm sea. Jason was standing on the deck of the boat when he saw black clouds gathering in the sky. He realized that the storm is not far from them. A minute later they found themselves in the middle of the storm. Huge waves were crashing and the boat was rocking from side to side as thunder rolled across the sky. They were extremely scared. They understanded that they were in huge danger, so Tony radioed for help. Just then a bolt of lightning struck the boat and the mast burst into flames. Tony said ,,We can't save the boat, but we can save our lives". They jumped into the water and swam to the life raft. As they climbed into the life raft they saw the boat sink slowly.

Having picked up the dhan the vessel then starts to steam slowly ahead while heaving in both ropes, gradually advancing winch speed as the gear closes to keep the net moving forward at a steadily increasing rate. 17 Danish seine is a trawling method used by relatively small boats in shallow waters (up to about 200 m). Lengths of weighted ropes of up to 2,800 m are laid out on the sea floor in a diamond pattern with the boat at one end of the diamond and the net at the other. As the boat moves forward the diamond becomes elongated allowing the fish to be herded into the path of the net. 18 Otsapoi (ankur) 19 12.8. The Inchcape Rock

The buoy on which the bell stands on, seems like a darker speck on the smooth water surface. It stands out so clearly that it catches the eye of Sir Ralph the Rover. Next, the mood of the Rover is expressed. It is stated that his heart was filled with joy for spring, he whistled and sung, but his joy was wicked he was happy because he had seen the bell and planned on doing something bad. As his eye lay, fixed upon the Inchcape Bell, he commanded his men to lower a boat to the water and row him to the Rock. He wanted to "plague" the Abbot of Aberbrothok, so no man would ever thank him again. "The boat is lower'd, the boatmen row, / And to the Inchcape Rock they go; / Sir Ralph bent over from the boat, / And he cut the Bell from the Inchcape float." This stanza is quite literal, it does not take a genius to understand what it is about - the sailors take the evil man to the buoy and he cuts the Bell free.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa

[21] Boats In the scene there are three oshiokuri-bune, fast boats that are used to transport live fish[22] from the Izu and Bs peninsulas to the markets of the bay of Edo. As the name of the piece indicates the boats are in Kanagawa prefecture, with Tokyo to the north, Mt Fuji to the northeast, the bay of Sagami to the south. and the bay of Tokyo to the east. The boats oriented to the southeast, are returning to the capital. There are eight rowers per boat, clinging to their oars. There are two more passengers in the front of each boat, bringing the total number of human figures in the image to thirty. Using the boats as reference, one can approximate the size of the wave: theoshiokuri-bune were generally between 12 to 15 meters long, and noting that Hokusai reduced the vertical scale by 30%, the wave must be between 10 to 12 meters tall.[21] The sea and the waves

London

London is situated in south-eastern England on the River Thames. The Romans started to build a town on the River Thames about 2000 years ago. They called their town Londinium and that`s where the name London comes from. London is made up of two ancient cities that are now joined together - the city of London and the city of Westminster. London is famous for it`s parks. Hyde Park is one of the largest and nicest of them . In summer you can walk in the park have a picnic or rent a small boat and go fishing. Hyde Park is also a place for big rock concerts - the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Queen, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Foo Fighters are just some of the bands that have played there.

My best holiday

I've traveled a little, mostly in Finland, Sweden and Latvia. But for me and my family like to travel and discover new places in Estonia. But my favorite is the holiday trip to Sweden. We traveled by boat to Sweden, where we visited many museums, cathedrals, and the Gallery. Sweden at meeldiub me most architectures, as the country houses are so special. I've been to Sweden twice, and definitely will go back there again. In addition, we usually visit the zoo, museums, and buy hand-made souvenirs. I like to follow the plot in the street, because they behave and dress differently. I was traveling for three days together in Sweden.

Book Review

The story takes place in the sea, about 50 years ago.The characters in the book are: a little boy, old man Santiago and a big fish. It is an short novel. There are film based on this book. The story is set on a big ocean. On the first pages, old man comes from fishing. Then he starts eating dinner with a boy. As the story develops, the man goes again to the sea to get fish. Then a big fish swallows the beat. The fish is so big that starts to pull the boat. The plot of the story is quite drab, but interesting too. The book contains lots of methaphors, which make the novel more vivid. There are no ilustrations in the book, expect on the cover. On the one hand the book is a little bit drab, but on the other hand, the book raises the curiousity. I like this book, because it is exciting to read it. I recommend the book to others.

Writing an article - Paradise at the Adriatic Sea

The old town is the primary objective for tourists who visit Dubrovnik. Narrow strelets full of different souvenir shops and restaurants are worth of visiting. The old town isn't the onlt place to visit there. Outside of the town walls you can find even more resturants, where you can sit next to the sea and enjoy fish and seafood dishes from the local Croatian kitchen. When you are full of local guisine, you can take diving lessons org o to the boat trip from the beach, which is located 100 metres away from the old town. If somebody has troubles with choosing a place to go for a vacation, Dubrovnik is the first place I would reccomend. I have been there three times for now but I still can not get enough of it. It is like a paradise on Earth.

If you could visit three places..

Modern Art and AT&T Park, where I could watch the baseball match of San Francisco Giants. Secondly I'd like to visit Australian city Sydney. I'd certainly go to the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Town Hall, Taronga Zoo and sunbathe on the beautiful beaches. My third and final choice is European city in Italy Venice. It's popular with its waterways. I'd like to travel along the Grand Canal by a Venetian boat called gondola. There are also other sights I'd like to see. For example the Salute, the Ponte dei Sospiri, often called the "Bridge of Sighs", Piazza San Marco and St Mark's Basilica. I find it fabulous to see the Carnival of Venice. In conclusion, I love to travel, so it's difficult for me to choose, but if I could go anywhere in the world, then San Francisco, Sydney and Venice are the cities I'd choose.

The Vikings

During this period many Vikings left Scandinavia and travelled to other countries, such as Britain and Ireland. Some went to fight and steal treasure. Others settled in new lands as farmers, craftsmen or traders. ships There were two distinct classes of Viking ships: the longship and the knarr. The longship is characterized as a graceful, long, narrow, light, wooden boat with a shallow draft hull designed for speed. Typically, a longship is narrower, longer, and shallower than a knarr, and is powered by oars. It is completely open and is built for speed and maneuverability. The knarr was a cargo ship, the hull was wider, deeper and shorter than a longship, and could take more cargo. It was primarily used to transport trading goods. weapons

A letter to a friend describing a house for rent

suggestion for you! I know you've always wanted to have a nice summer cottage and why not to have it, here, in Estonia? I've found a lovely summerhouse for you! I also remember how much you adored these cute little hills we have in Estonia, so this lovely cottage is also on the foot of one and it's surrounded by a beautiful nature, you like to take photos of, too. It's located in the South-Estonia, near the Võru. This house has a view on a lake, where you can ride a boat and fish. It's surrounded by a little garden, in front of the house there are some beautiful roses growing. There is also a back yard suitable for barbecue partyes I know how much you like to cook with Markus, so it's a big pro. From the outside the cottage looks very pretty. It's finished with blue pine and is painted to light-green. It has also a marvelous thatched roof and it really reminds me one of these little elf houses from fairytales.

The history of London

Underground trains, which run all day and most of the night. But you can see much more of London from red double decker buses. It is very expensive if you buy a single ticket but the cheapest is to buy a Travelcard, which you can get for one day or for several days. Besides these there are special visitor's buses that take you to the most important sights during one and a half hours. These buses usually have open tops and tour guides on them. You can also have a boat trip on the River Thames and enjoy numerous sights like the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, Shakespeare's Globe and others on both banks of the river.

Baked beans for breakfast, Ruth Chew

Their parents are in Europe. At the beginning of the book the children catch a bus to their family's sumer vacation community, all at their own. When they arrive, they buy supplies and camp in the woods. During their trip they make new friends, but also get into fight with two mean boys, do some chores for an old lady (Miss Williams), get lost, build a cabin and go fishing, swimming and sailing. After Joe and Kathleen have done some chores for Miss Williams, they buy a boat and camp on an island in the middle of the lake. Soon a rainstorm starts, but luckily they get rescued by the Lake Warden before the island disappears under water. In the end the kids get permission to stay with Miss Williams for the rest of the summer and they do't have to return to Mrs.McCafferty I think the book was too predictable and a little bit boring for me, but younger readers will certainly enjoy it. For a children's book, I think it's great.

San Francisco

Francisco dates to 3000 BC. The Yelamu group of the Ohlone people resided in several small villages when a Spanish exploration party, led by Don Gaspar de Portolà arrived on November 2, 1769, the first documented European visit to San Francisco Bay. Upon independence from Spain in 1821, the area became part of Mexico. Under Mexican rule, the mission system gradually ended and its lands began to be privatized. In 1835, Englishman William Richardson erected the first independent homestead, near a boat anchorage around what is today Portsmouth Square. Together with Alcalde Francisco de Haro, he laid out a street plan for the expanded settlement, and the town, named Yerba Buena, began to attract American settlers. Commodore John D. Sloat claimed California for the United States on July 7, 1846, during the Mexican-American War, and Captain John B. Montgomery arrived to claim Yerba Buena two days later. Yerba Buena was renamed San Francisco on January 30 of the next year,

The Republic of Estonia - referaat

Kerli Uue 10.r The Estonian tax system consists of national taxes and local taxes collected by local governments in their jurisdiction. National taxes include income tax, social tax, land tax, gambling tax, value-added tax, duty and excise taxes and heavy goods vehicle tax. Local governments have the authority to impose local taxes, but effectively only a few have introduced local taxes, in particular: sales tax, boat tax, advertisement tax, tax for closing of streets, motor vehicle tax, tax on keeping domestic animals, amusement tax, and parking fees. The financial market of Estonia is relatively unique when compared to the rest of Europe. Our position in the current turbulent situation is better than that of some others. References 1.
