com/watch?v=B4VP129rWcY Peat properties Peat is an organic deposit formed from the accumulation of decomposed remains of plants in the oxygenpoor environment of excess water. Peat consists mainly of partially decomposed remains of plants and humus. The most essential indices of peat are decomposition degree, moisture content, mineral (ash) content, density and calorific value. Although peat is of biological origin, it is not considered a renewable biofuel usually, but a slowly renewable fuel of biological origin. The CO2 emitted to the atmosphere during its combustion is accounted as a greenhouse gas (GHG) similarly to fossil fuels. Sustainability aspects of biofuels

Margit Tepner k0848752 policy incentives. So far, policy incentives have been key drivers of biofuels' production in Europe and the USA. Figure 4. Global bioethanol production projection (USDA, 2012). Bioethanol is mainly produced in Brazil and the USA. Biofuels production and its increase in the future is closely linked to the oil prices. A study (Timilsina, 2011) has found that 25% increase in oil price (from 2009 baseline figures) in 2020 would cause a 20,4% increase in global biofuel production. In turn, increasing oil prices would shift land away from food production as it becomes less profitable. Secondly, increasing oil prices would especially increase the food prices in countries, where its production is energy intensive. According to the International Energy Forum Report, the targets set by the European and US government won't be achieved, but biofuels production will still increase significantly. It is projected to rise from today's 1% to 7%, in 2030

makeup, shampoo, soap, biodiesel. Also in food – sweet treats (chocolate, biscuits etc), margarine, nut butters, crisps. The Two kinds of palm oil • Palm oil comes from palm fruit. It is rich in vitamin E and it has a red colour due to beta-caroten in it. High in saturated fats. Used mostly in food industry • Palm kernel oil comes from palm fruit seed. Also high in saturated fats. Used mostly in products such as shampoos, makeup, biofuel etc Ingridient list • Vegetable Oil, Vegetable Fat, Palm Kernel, Palm Kernel Oil, Palm Fruit Oil, Palmate, Palmitate, Palmolein, Glyceryl, Stearate, Stearic Acid, Elaeis Guineensis, Palmitic Acid, Palm Stearine, Palmitoyl Oxostearamide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Lauryl Lactylate/Sulphate, Hyrated Palm Glycerides, Etyl Palmitate, Octyl Palmitate, Palmityl Alcohol

Food Microstructure and Starch Digestion

odorless powder that is insoluble in cold water or alcohol. It consists of two types of molecules: the linear and helical amylose and the branched amylopectin. Depending on the plant, starch generally contains 20 to 25% amylose and 75 to 80% amylopectin by weight. Glycogen, the glucose store of animals, is a more highly branched version of amylopectin. In industry, starch is converted into sugars, for example by malting, and fermented to produce ethanol in the manufacture of beer, whisky and biofuel. It is processed to produce many of the sugars used in processed foods. The biggest industrial non-food use of starch is as an adhesive in the papermaking process. Starch can be applied to parts of some garments before ironing, to stiffen them. Mixing most starches in warm water produces a paste, such as wheatpaste, which can be used as a thickening, stiffening or gluing agent. Slide 3 Starch is the major component of natural food, sometimes taking about 70% of the mass.

Renewable energy

Biomass energy Biomass is any material that comes from plants or microorganisms that were recently living. Trees, branches, scraps of bark, and recycled paper are common sources of biomass energy. Manure, garbage, and crops such as corn, soy, and sugar cane can also be used as biomass feedstocks. We get energy from biomass by burning it. Wood chips, manure, and garbage are dried out and compressed into squares called "briquettes." Biomass can also be converted into biofuel. A major advantage of biomass is that it can be stored and used when it is needed. Negative aspects of biomass energy Growing crops for biofuels requires large amounts of land and pesticides. Some pesticides could pollute the air and water. Biomass energy can also be a non renewable energy source. If people do not replant biomass feedstocks as fast as they use them, biomass energy becomes a nonrenewable energy source. Conclusion Renewable energy is generated from natural resources

a household. Rarbach cited oil major Shell's tie up with Cosan as being one of the most notable strategic partnerships that has taken place last year. The $12bn joint venture will see the pair produce and sell sugar, energy and ethanol from sugarcane, and distribute fuels for transportation and industry from the companies' integrated distribution and retail networks in Brazil. Through the deal, Shell strengthened its whole business in biofuel and bioethanol. Sterecycle was debating whether to list in Canada or in its domestic market on the AIM exchange in London. French chemical company Rhodia's subsidiary Rhodia Energy Services has launched two biogas projects in China and Vietnam, it said on Thursday. Rhodia Energy Services will manage the design and construction of the two facilities, as well as the operations and sales of the biogas produced, it said in a statement.

BARRIERS TO DISTRICT HEATING DEVELOPMENT IN SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

District heating is a means to utilise such surplus heat to cover heat demand. District heating can utilise the heat from electricity generation in combined heat and power (CHP) plants. District heating can also use other heat sources that are difficult to use for individual buildings, such as unrefined biomass fuels, heat from waste incineration and industrial surplus heat. The latter may, for example, be a by-product from production of automotive biofuel. District heating can provide cheap energy to consumers by using low-cost energy sources, such as wood, waste and surplus heat. Many of these resources can be of local origin and promote local business and industry. The main advantages with district heating are high security of supply through utilisation of domestic renewable energy resources, if available, low primary energy demand due to high conversion efficiency, as well as small CO2 emissions thanks to low fossil fuel use and the high

significant pressure on the environment. Problems are air pollutants, greenhouse gases, waste generation and pollution caused by oil. It helps to change climate, damage natural ecosystems and tehiskeskkonda and adversely affect human health. Renewable energy is the solution. This is the energy that is produced in an environmentally sustainable manner. The main sources of renewable energy are a direct solar energy, hydroenergy, wind energy, biomass, biofuel, tidal energy, and geothermal energy. This topic has been chosen because the author has an interest in renewable energy and their use. Examining the literature on the subject and the author of online sources became known, what is the situation of renewable energy in today's world. This work is to provide an overview of renewable energy, as well as to inform the need for and benefits of. The course of the work was carried out in an empirical study of attitudes to renewable energy for people.
