Inglise keele kirjand "Me and basketball"

" (Socrates) Basketball is one of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports. Basketball was invented 1891 in Springfield by the local university physical education teacher James Naismith. He was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters. After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 3,05 m elevated track. In contrast with modern basketball nets, this peach basket retained its bottom, and balls had to be retrieved manually after each "basket" or point scored. In January 1892 there was also the first official competition with nine players which ended at 1-0; the shot was made fron 7,6 m on a court just half the...

Kobe Bean Bryant

Juba varases nooruses hakkas teda huvitama sport, eriti jalgpall. Kolmeaastaselt hakkas ta mängima korvpalli. 1991. aastal kolis pere tagasi USA-sse. NBA karjäär Bryant valiti 1996. aasta drafti 13. valikuna New Orleans Hornetsi meeskonda, ent kohe suundus ta Los Angeles Lakersisse. 1997. aastal võitis ta NBA Slam Dunk Contesti. Aastatel 2000-2002 võitis Lakers kolm järjestikust NBA meistritiitlit. N...

Education

A person can be insensitive in one way, such as blind, and extraordinarily sensitive in another way, such as in hearing. It is also possible to be so ultra-sensitive that the result is disadvantageous. I expect no argument in asserting that a normal sensitivity is a healthy, indispensable ingredient for optimal education. Sensitivity can be heightened or blunted by education. It is intertwined with curiosity. An ideal education affords numerous and varied opportunities for students to touch, see, smell, listen, hear; to spark their curiosity. When I was a child the things that pleased me were largely other than the plants which have earned me a living as an adult. For example, I collected postage stamps, played basketball , was fond of listening to music, played all manner of games, but dealt only in a neutral, uninspired fashion with plants. The one thing that was constant and of supreme importance was my love of reading. I don't recall why, but by an early age, say age 9, I was a phenomenal reader of books, a habit that persisted all the way until college. Reading expands one's mind immensely. It fires the imagination, demonstrates grammar, teaches vocabulary, informs, challenges, helps one relax. In some cases it forces the mind to concentrate, as to understand. It can help build a moral or ethical framework, and help oneself form an individual worldview. Even an untraveled child, sitting at home, can be transported by a book into any place or time. Fantasy and facts weave together, but the result is almost an unmitigated improvement. If a bookworm grows up to be antisocial or worse, it is not because of too much reading, but because some...

Health, Healthy habits and sports

Feelings of stress are the body's response to any threatening or unfamiliar situation. Stress can occur even in pleasant situations, such as watching a football game. About myself

About Myself From the very start I should say that it is not an easy thing to speak about myself as it is hard to have a look at yourself from aside, but at the same time who knows you better than you yourself do? I am a girl of sixteen. When I look at myself in the mirror I see a blond girl with short straight hair, dark eyes and slander figure. As to my appearance I'm rather tall and slim. I have never thought I'm a beauty I whish I were more beautiful. I think that I'm even tempered, rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my tempo and become either angry or sad. I like staying alone and sometimes I retire into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means I understand humour and appreciate it. There are many things in our life I like and some I dislike. I like when everything is OK. Being happy is one way of b...

Topic - Canada 2

Lacrosse, a sport with First Nations origins, is Canada's oldest sport and official summer sport. Association football, known in Canada as soccer in both English and French, has overtaken hockey as the sport with the most registered players in Canada, but has never enjoyed sustained popularity as a major professional spectator sport, although there are several Canadian teams in the United Soccer Leagues. A uniquely Canadian code of football known as Canadian football is Canada's second most popular spectator sport, and the Canadian Football League's annual championship, the Grey Cup, is the country's single largest sporting event. Other popular team sports include curling, baseball, basketball , rugby union and softball. Popular individual sports include both openwheel and stock car auto racing, boxing, on and offroad cycling, golf etc. 12. Economy Canada is a very large country blessed with many natural resources. From trees in the forests across the country we make pulp and paper. From mines we extract coal, gold, silver, iron, uranium and many other minerals. On the prairies we grow grain, raise cattle and extract oil and gas from beneath of the ground. From the oceans on our east and west coast we take fish and other seafood. In Japanese restaurants customers may buy Alberta beef and British Columbia salmon. In Russia people sometimes eat bread from Canadian wheat. In the United States many of the newspapers are made from Canadian pulp and people use Canadian oil and gas in their cars. Because Canada has a relatively small...

Also, athletes don't have to perform nude, although the original idea of the games was to honour the human body. Each Olympic Games has an opening ceremony during which the sports stadium is filled with music, singing, dancing and fireworks. A closing ceremony in the same spirit takes place on the last day of the Games. The opening and closing ceremonies are an invitation to discover the culture of the country hosting the Games. Although most of the ceremony is creative and imaginative, there are some very strict rituals that have to be followed. Summer games: In the Summer Games, athletes compete in a wide variety of competitions on the track, on the road, on grass, in the water, on the water, in the open air and indoors. The Winter Games feature sports practised on snow and ice, both indoors and outdoors. Many new events have been added, such as basketball , baseball and beach volleyball. The Summer Games are held in various months and last for 16 days. Sports with separate men's and women's event include archery, badminton, basketball, canoeing, cycling, fencing, gymnastics and several others. Men and women may compete in the gymnastics same team in equestrian (horse riding) sports and some yachting events. Only men compete in boxing and modern pentathlon. The host country must provide a large stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, the athletic events and football. Many host cities build special facilities for various Olympic events.
